  2. Swiss Central Gazzette (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) We witnessed another for matches involving Swiss precision at work. Please find our summary below. vs 4-5 Vasteras was facing their arch-rival Stockholm in the first match which ended 5-4 in the Vikings' favour. The Iron Eagles were able to win the first period with 3-2. Vladovechsenkchushkin on the power play, Bushtit and Elsby bagged a goal each for the Västmanland team. Bushtit with a goal on the man advantage increased the lead by one in the second, but Stockholm was able to draw even with two goals of their own. The third was without a goal for the longest time and the teams seem to have settled for a fourth period, when Chisholm scored with less than two minutes left in the game during Blugers' double minor for roughing. The Eagles decided to not pull the goalie and were not able to react any more. So they suffered a defeat at the hands of Stockholm. The coveted three stars awards went to Elsby (1g/1a), Dropper (1g/3a) and Craig (1g/1a). Despite Utonium's (.904) herculean effort between the pipes, clearly outshining Grubauer (.826) who has yet to lose a game, Vasteras was just not throwing enough shit at the wall for same to stick, to win this game. Vasteras' power play was excellent (2/3) but their penalty kill (4/7) was the other reason, why the conceded the match. Marcel left the ice with a 0g, 0a, +0 and 1 hit record. vs 2-0 Marcel's second game was against last year's finalist Rome, with a final score of 2-0 for the Vikings. Martin in the first and Bernier in the second period were responsible for the only two goals scored in this match up. Utonium (44 saves), Snakehole (0g/2a) and Elsby (0g/1a) were asked to grace the ice once more for the encore. Tsezar (.920) with a very decent performance had no chance against Utonium's shutout. Vasteras power play was inexistent (0/3), their box play spotless (5/5). Marcel logged 0g, 0a, +0, 1 hit and 3sb. vs 6-3 Daniel's first game was against the Seattle Bears and ended in a 6-3 defeat. After only 1:15 minutes played Eagles gets the puck in the Bears' zone and fires away just to see his shot blocked by Eightnine, he picks the biscuit up and whacks again this time Flex is in the way, but creates a rebound in parrying the shot. Same is hoovered up by Nasherov and he shoots and Daniel changes the trajectory mid-air at point blank range, leaving Flex not the hint of a chance to parry it. Shortly after, the Bears even the score. The probably decisive moment of the first period is not a goal scored or a face off won. No, it is Kotkakoivu headbutting his adversary Detroit, who falls like a sack of potatoes. The referees send the Finn off for an early shower. The Bears take advantage of the accompanying Major penalty twice and score a third goal at even strength. The Wranglers do not manage to come back from this blow to morale, despite goals from Nasherov and Reinhart, which were promptly countered by two goals of Lose. The three stars were awarded to Tsujimoto (1g/3a), Lose (2g/1a) and Petrenko (1g/1a). Klamasteris (.887) had one of his weaker days and could not steal a win against Flex' (.933) stellar performance. Calgary's power play wasin existent (0/2) and the penalty killing below average (4/6). Daniel had 1g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Tripping, did not lead to a goal), 5 hits and FO% of 57.14 to his name. vs 5-3 The second encounter was a direct rematch against Seattle, this time with the better end for the Albertans. The Bears were determined to begin where they left the last game and scored three consecutive goals. However, Calgary fought back and had an uninterrupted series of five goals of their own, scored by Eagles (PPG), Johnson , Nasherov (PPG), Jokinen (PPG) and Johnson (empty net). Let's have a closer look at the only even strength goal with a netminder between the pipes. Daniel wins the draw in the Bears' den, the puck lands with Eagles who passes it on to Johnson and the Geordie whips it past Flex into the net. Johnson (2g/1a), Detroit (1g/1a) and Miglaskems (1g/0a) were named three stars of the night. Klamasteris (.914) had Flex' number all day (.886). Calgary was very efficient in power play (3/4) as well as in the penalty kill duties (6/7). Daniel was noted with 0g, 1a, +2, 2 hits, 1sb and 51.43% efficiency from the hash mark. Our well-known Canadian correspondent Jean-Luc Lieuxperroux visited Daniel in between the matches: JLL: 'Daniel, we must ask: What happened between Kotkakoivu and Detroit in this fateful 20th minute of the last match? Are you allowed to talk about this?' DJ: 'Hi Jean-Luc. Yes of course. The Wranglers cherish and cultivate a culture of open communication. The matter was addressed briefly in the locker room during the match and in detail in the de-briefing once back at base. While the club clearly does not advocate headbutting opponents, we know a little more about the background. Detroit is known as a gritty player and an agitator and that is fair enough, this is part of the game. From the first face-off he tried to go under Saku's skin, by trash talking and hacking at his calves when the umpires looked the other way. Sofar, so good and this is nothing unusual. What flipped the lid, was when Detroit started to insult Saku's sister in ways I cannot repeat. You know, Ilvi is very dear to Saku and they always had a very strong bond. Saku does not mind being trash talked to, he accepts it as part of the game we all love. But this was too much and uncalled for. This should not come as an excuse for Saku's actions. He did wrong and he knows it. Had he challenged Vinny to a fight, it would be business as usual. Alas, he did not and that has consequences.' JLL: 'Does that mean that there will be disciplinary actions beyond the ones from the league? Are you at liberty to disclose same if yes?' DJ: 'Absolutely, on both accounts. However, I would not call it disciplinary actions. In the de-briefing, Saku said that he did wrong and set a bad example to all those kids who watch our games and that is not what he wants. He volunteered to go each day after practice to the Childrens Hospital here in Calgary and will perform for a month as a clown on the station where the terminal ill kids are cared for, to make them laugh. He further pledged a considerable amount to a programme which provides shelter for the homeless. He explicitely asked to keep the sum secret and I will respect his wish. He hopes that by these signs of his repentance, he can undo some of the damage done to his, and more importantly, the dent on the Wranglers' reputation. There is a press conference as we speak, where he will say what I just told you here.' JLL: 'Thanks Daniel for your time.' DJ: 'My Pleasure' And now to something completely different, the Jansers' stats: Marcel: 12gp, 1g, 3a, 4pts, -7, 10 PIM, 14 hits, 25sb, 1gwg Daniel: 12gp, 4g, 10a, 14pts, +16, 17 PIM, 37 hits, 7sb, 1gwg, 54.32 FO% We will revert with news as they develop, in the interim, please do not miss out on the below articles. https://vhlforum.com/topic/115972-a-tale-of-two-brothers-two-sides-of-a-coin/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/116055-a-tale-of-two-brothers-light-and-shadow/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/116127-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-flip-of-a-coin/ GM 42: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Stockholm Vikings (vhlportal.com) GM 45: Rome Gladiators vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 86: Seattle Bears vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 95: Calgary Wranglers vs. Seattle Bears (vhlportal.com)

  12. Swiss Central Gazzette (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) Our intrepid hockey players in overseas had two games apiece. Find the reports of same here below. vs 1 - 4 The first match Marcel's Iron Eagles played, was a 4-1 win against Oslo. The first period ended 1-1, with Bernier scoring in powerplay for the Swedish team. After 4:34 into the second, Vladovechsenkchushkin picks up a lose puck, passes it to Martin, who relays to Blugers, Blugers to Janser who one-times it past Wumbo, for the one-goal lead and his first VHLE goal ever. No further goals were scored in that frame. The third period saw two goals of Bernier's to complete his hattrick. It should surprise no-one he (3g/0a) was named first star, alongside fellow team mates Bushtit (0g/3a) and Blugers (0g/2a). On a highclass goaltender standoff, Utonium (.955) clearly outperformed Wumbo (.902). Vasteras' power play was sub-par (1/6) while their penalty killing unit was flawless (3/3). Marcel was reported with 1g, 0a, +0 and 1sb. vs 3 - 4 (SO) The second game was a direct rematch with a tighter fight and a 4-3 win for Vasteras. Oslo took the lead early with a power play goal but Bernier tied the game at 9:03 minutes. Oslo reinstalled the one goal lead before the end of the period and went with a 2-1 into the first intermission. With only five minute left to play in the second, Heavens tied the game after a text book relay over Martin and Janser. Early in the third frame, the Iron Eagles took the lead with Elsby's power play goal. Alas, Oslo managed to equalize the score and take this game to overtime. The Sudden Death did not bring a decision so the teams went into shootout, where Utonium kept their cool and denied the attempts of Clue, McMuffin and Teekirque, whereas Martin beat Wumbo with a nice in-between-leg-shot and won the game for the Swedes. The three stars were awarded to Elsby (1g/1a), Sprout (1g/1a) and Pandora (1g/1a). Utonium (.893) was a tad weaker in net than Wumbo (.897), but it was a close call. Vasteras' power play was on the weaker side (1/6), their penalty kill unit performed okay (3/4). Marcel had 0g, 1a, -1, 2 hits and 4sb (most of both teams) to his name. vs 4 - 5 (SO) Daniel's first game was against reigning champions, the Vancouver Wolves and it ended in 5-4 heartbreak loss after shootout. The Wranglers started well with to consecutive goals by Reinhart on even strength. But the Wolves were able to even the score before the first horn sounded. In the second period, Janser was the only goalscorer for Calgary. He first won the face-off in his own zone and distributed the biscuit to Nasherov. The Swede relays the puck to Eagles who struggles to control the bouncing disc, but in the end manages to pass it to the on-rushing Swiss. Daniel shoots and Sales parries the shot, but does not block the puck. Daniel is the first to pick up his own rebound and scores from point blank range. His efforts to keep the Wranglers in the game are thwarted by two Vancouver power play goals in the same frame. The third period saw Perry as the sole goalscorer which drew the game at 4-4. The extratime did not end in a Sudden Death and so the times had to demonstrate their skills in the shootout (could as well spin the Wheel of Fortune). Perry converted for the Wranglers, while T. Reinhart and Tucker succeeded for the BC franchise. Madison (1g/2a), Perry (1g/2a) and Tucker (1g/2a) were named the three stars of the game. Klamasteris (.917) had an ever so slightly edge over Sales (.915) in the duel between the pipes. What really broke the neck for the Wranglers was their lousy box play (1/3) while they did not take prisoners when playing on a one man advantage (1/1). Daniel logged 1g, 0a, +0, 3 hits and FOW rate of an astounding 65.38%. vs 5 - 6 (SO) The next matchup was against a struggling Helsinki team and ended 6-5 in favour for the Finns after shootout. Helsinki opens the score with a power play goal. At the 12:55 minute mark, less than a minute after the Titans scored and during a power play for the Wranglers, Daniel wins the draw against former Calgary player Johnston and passes the puck to Nasherov, who one touches it to Funk. Funk shoots and hits iron, but the puck bounces right back to him and in his second attempt the veteran defender buries it. Unfortunately for the Canadians, the Titans scored an even strength goal, with only 47 seconds on the clock left, to make it 2-1. In the second frame, Eagles was the only goalscorer to draw the game at 2-2. In the third period, all defensive discipline was lost by both teams and it was a roller coaster. Helsinki scored a brace first, just to be tied again after the Wranglers emulated their performance by goals from Johnson and Funk (again in power play). Johnson's goal was very curious in the making: First, Nasherov intercepts a pass from Hjalmarsson and passes to Johnson. Phil shoots, but Nasherov in an attempt to screen the shot, gets a piece of it and deflects it wide. 'The Rock' picks up the lose puck and fires again. This time Janser deflects and forces Booberry to parry, but the netminder cannot get a hold on the puck and creates a rebound which is picked up by Johnson again. The veteran forward does not hesitate and wristshots the biscuit into the five hole. The Finns have finally ran out of luck. Shortly after, the Titans went ahead again but the excitement of being ahead lasted only for 14 seconds when Johnson tied the game again. The Sudden Death did not live up to its name and so, once more, the lottery of a shootout had to decide a Wranglers game. Nezuko was the only one who succeeded from the point, and therefore a win for Helsinki materialized. Johnson (2g/1a), Nasherov (0g/4a) and Johnston (2g/1a) were awarded the coveted three stars distinction. Klamasteris (.894) was notably better than Booberry (.872). The special teams were a mixed bag. While the power play was decent (2/7), the penalty kill let much to be desired (3/5) and once again, probably cost the Wranglers the match. Daniel was noted with 0g, 2a, +3, 3 hits, 1sb and a 52.08% success rate at the draw. The Jansers' stats for this season so far: Marcel: 10gp, 1g, 4a, 5pts, 10 PIM, 12 hits, 22sb, 1gwg Daniel: 10gp, 3g, 9a, 12pts, 15 PIM, 30 hits, 6sb, 1gwg, 54.27 FO% Stay tuned for further updates on our modern day William Tells. https://vhlforum.com/topic/115911-a-tale-of-two-brothers-premieres/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/115972-a-tale-of-two-brothers-two-sides-of-a-coin/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/116055-a-tale-of-two-brothers-light-and-shadow/ GM 33: Oslo Storm vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 37: Oslo Storm vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 70: Calgary Wranglers vs. Vancouver Wolves (vhlportal.com) GM 75: Calgary Wranglers vs. Helsinki Titans (vhlportal.com) 1155 words

  19. Do not remind me of that, this was outrageous... point well taken...
  20. It is a fair point that you make here and frankly one that I did not consider, thanks for making me aware of this. I am not trying to argue, just for my curiosity and to put it in perspective: Do you think that the trade would have gone faster if all the parties involved are aware that they are running into a timebar? I.e. would you have pushed for a resolution of the trade more persistently? Would your opposite number made up his mind/decided on the trade earlier, if they knew that there is a timebar? BTW you seem to be one of the GM's who took great care to communicate with everybody involved and I am sure that the league would approve in case of emergency, if a GM can prove that they communicated with the player/GM as soon as the deal was done/asap. Having said that, there should not be many emergency cases, if everyone is aware of the time bars as suggested by me.
  21. I have a (probably unripe) suggestion. Why do we not make it a hard requirement, that a player and his VHLE GM are notified 24h in advance that a call up will be happening/is required? Such communication (with time stamp) to be posted in the auto-generated call-up message. If this is not met, league will not approve of the call up and the player cannot be called up by the same organisation again that same season? Is this too restrictive? Is it feasible to control this stuff from a commissioner pov? Just thinking out loud. This is in my opinion no additional burden for GMs which already communicate, as far as I can tell. Or even more radical, the call up requires the players consent. After all, this league is for the players and not primarily for the few chosen ones who got a seat as a GM. I think therefore that it should be the player's choice where they play (within the limitations a draft based league brings with it). Again just thinking out loud...
