Moscow, RU — Coming off of a disappointing Continental Cup loss, the Moscow Menace are looking to retain as many pieces of the team that made the run possible in the first place, but now must work around the decrease in cap as well as the departure of a few cornerstones for their franchise. One of the names re-signed is defenseman River Harrington, who signed a three-year deal with a mutual option, headstrong about staying with the organization who drafted him 2nd overall in the S96 VHL Entry Draft. He is looking to bolster his production next season as well as become a new anchor for the team alongside Jillian Woods on the blueline. “It’s great to have gotten that deal done easily and lift that weight off my shoulders,” Harrington said. “The only thing we’re looking for right now is a Cup and I want to be a guy that people can rely on to get it done and bring it home.” With many rosters shaking up this offseason, only time will tell how well organizations have adjusted once teams hit the ice for S99.

Welcome back to another edition of Kirby Rambles! We’ll be starting with the IRL rambling like usual, and then jump into VHL offseason shenanigans. To begin, I submitted the last essay of my college career a few hours earlier and it’s insane to think that after so many years of schooling, I’ll never have to take an exam, give a presentation, or write an essay ever again, all of which I had to do during this finals week. Unless I decide to go back to school for whatever reason. I honestly hate the saying “welcome to the real world” and whenever someone says that to me, I just cringe a little. But yeah, it’s time for me to move on to the next stage in my life and figure out what I want to do after my graduation ceremony this Saturday. Despite me being absolutely terrified about no longer having consistent structure in my life, after talking to some trusted friends and other advisers, I know I’m still young and have a lot of time to figure things out, so I really want to take some time to myself to relax and maybe do some travelling with friends and family. I also saw Thunderbolts yesterday, and I went into it knowing people have said it was shockingly good, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. I rated it 4 and a half stars out of 5 on Letterboxd and it made me cry, so that’s how I felt about the film. It was great to finally see a good MCU movie after some flops post-Endgame and it’ll definitely be top 10 MCU films for me. Now onto the fun stuff, the VHL stuff! Another offseason is upon us and Davos had a great draft, really looking for that first Cup since the S89 win with Jake Thunder and Lachlan Summers leading the charge, which feels like forever ago, in hindsight. In August, it’ll be two IRL years and it really puts into perspective how quickly time can fly. Speaking of Summers, I’ve signed him and River Harrington up for the ProAm! I always say it’s my favorite tourney because of how casual and fun it is, and to see a wide variety of players on the same team without a TPE cap to hold things back like other traditional tournaments. You definitely get your ass kicked when your TPE is low, but eventually, you’ll be the one to curb stomping people when you give it a few seasons of earning. Either way, it’s a good time and I always recommend it to those who haven’t checked it out. I’ve also finally thought about player names for my next player, who will be joining the league in S104 (what a crazy number), and while nothing is set in stone yet, I’m definitely leaning towards a select few names for this mystery player. All I know is that they’re going to be a winger, and that’s about it. It only seems natural to go from goalie to defenseman to forward. Though recreation is still a ways away, so I’m not all too concerned about settling on something right now.

HC Davos Dynamo Press Conference You ONLY have to answer 6 of the 8 questions Week Of May 4th 2025 - May 11th 2025 1. We bid goodbye to AKK and Del Rocco. Thoughts on our new acquisitions in Joshua Schwarzer and Jorgen Lovstrom? 2. Do you think having a low TPE goalie is the new meta? 3. What are your plans for the offseason until S99 starts up? 4. If you could build a franchise around one active VHL player, who would it be? 5. Did you sign up for ProAm? 6. What would you do for a Continental Cup win? 7. What was the most shocking or entertaining series in the Stanley Cup playoffs thus far, in your opinion? 8. The new Marvel movie “Thunderbolts” just released! Have you seen it or will you be seeing it?

Another season done, another offseason upon us. S99 is such a crazy number to see knowing that we will be soon approaching the big S100, and triple digit season numbers. Then in S104, I will be able to retire and recreate for the S106 draft class in about a year’s time! It’s still so far away but putting it in the context of season numbers makes it seem like time is flying by like nothing at all. Speaking of time, this upcoming July will be my and Sadie’s VHLiversary, marking 3 whole years since we’ve joined the league! To most, we’re still babies of the league and to others, we’re grizzled vets. It’s quite the dichotomy. Finding the VHL via YouTube ad was probably one of the best things that’s ever happened to me because there’s a sense of community between folks who love sports and are complete nerds, and also provided me with lifetime friendships along the way.

Review: WOW! This is such a clean and beautiful logo design and despite Malmo's green being obscenely bright, it's not hard to look at this graphic. I love how seamlessly you were able to work the logo in with the text and make it look entirely cohesive and the choice to make it a star shape for the All-Star Game was an awesome choice to pull it all together. I do believe the text work is the standout here since it's shaded really well and color-matches with the actual Nighthawks logo. No further notes. Awesome stuff, Matthew! (10/10)

HC Davos Dynamo Press Conference You ONLY have to answer 6 of the 8 questions Week Of April 27th 2025 - May 4th 2025 1. The end of our season was an unceremonious one, but do you have any final reflections? 2. What do you wish to achieve in S99? 3. Out of the remaining teams, who is your pick to win the Continental Cup? 4. Do you believe offseasons should be shorter? Or is it already the perfect amount of time between each season? 5. What is your favorite defunct VHL, VHLM, or VHLE franchise? 6. Which series in the Stanley Cup Playoffs do you think has been most entertaining thus far? 7. What was the last movie you saw in theaters? 8. 2025 seems to be a stellar year for video games! Do you already have a favorite game that’s been released this year? If so, what is it?

Welcome to another edition of Kirby Mini Rambles! So to start off with some IRL stuff, I’m about three weeks out from graduating which is both exciting and terrifying at the same time because I’ll have to find a career and work for the next 40 years, but these last few weeks will feel like that final lap in Mario Kart where the music gets all fast and stressful. I’m going to do my best to finish strong and walk across that stage proudly in front of my friends and family. I’m hoping to be more active around here again once things are all said and done. Moving onto the VHL, Davos was unfortunately swept at the hands of Moscow, which has me feeling weird, of course. While I’m happy my player’s team moved on, the team I’ve been AGMing for the past 10 seasons was knocked out of the playoffs unceremoniously. These two teams have been at odds for what feels like an eternity and the series are always entertaining, at least. River is a point per game thus far, and Moscow is currently one win away from advancing past Riga. In other VHL news, we had some new hirings in the GM and mod department today! Three of which were my friends, OblivionWalker (Mississauga GM), Sadie (mod), and Aimee (also a mod)! I'm so immensely proud of all three of them for what they've accomplished since joining the league and they all continue to be stellar members that everyone should strive to be like. I've also been asked why I haven't applied to be a full-time GM or other job position and the only answer I have is that I simply don't feel like GMing would be a good fit for me. It's a big responsibility to be at the helm of a team and a group of players, and that's something I find daunting since I am also prone to burnout, even with nearly three years experience in the VHL, so I don't think you will be seeing me as a GM. Not in the near future, at least. I'm honestly content AGMing for Davos and being there when my GM and players need me while enjoying the ride. That's all I have for you this week. Thank you for reading!

HC Davos Dynamo Press Conference You ONLY have to answer 6 of the 8 questions Week Of April 20th 2025 - April 27th 2025 1. We face Moscow once again! Predictions for series length? If you’re answering after the series is over, did we advance? 2. Who do you believe the NA champion will be? 3. How would you rate your player’s individual performance in the wildcard round against London? 4. In your opinion, what makes a good player name? 5. What is your favorite point task to do in the VHL? 6. As our playoffs currently line up with the Stanley Cup playoffs, who is your favorite to win the Stanley Cup this year? 7. In a Game 7 shootout situation, which active VHL starting goalie would you want in net for you? 8. What is the most fun, obscure fact you know?

The playoffs are upon us. Let’s quickly reflect on Mr. River Harrington’s performance this season compared to last! Season 97: River put up 11 goals and 36 assists for 47 points in 72 games during his rookie campaign, totaling 128 shots and a +16. He racked up 98 hits and 111 shots blocked, with 58 PIM. It was a serviceable first year in the VHL, and I was pleased considering the stacked Moscow squad he was playing behind. I seeked to help the team in any way I could despite the low TPE range, and despite the fact that Moscow didn’t win the Cup, I believe River’s performance was solid. Season 98: Going into this season, my main goal was to get points, hits, and shots blocked up. With the Obez Schneider Canet du Bocage (whose name I still can't spell without looking at) swapping positions to forward, it was time for River to get some more minutes on the blue line. With this, River put up 15 goals and 59 assists totaling 74 points in 72 games, which met my goal of being at least a point per game with a +40! So that was a huge win. His shot total pretty much doubled, with it reaching 248, and I wish he would’ve finished more of those. He also amassed a mere 35 hits and 104 shots blocked, with 28 PIM. I was a little disappointed with the decrease in physicality, but I did build him to be an offensive defenseman initially, though may pivot more towards two-way D later on.

HC Davos Dynamo Press Conference You ONLY have to answer 6 of the 8 questions Week Of April 13th 2025 - April 20th 2025 1. We’re at the final stretch of the regular season! How do you feel about Davos’ performance over the course of S98? 2. How many players do you think the S100 class will end with? 3. How is your team performing in VHFL and/or Super Coach if you participated? 4. Does your player shoot left or right-handed? If you’re a goalie, what is their glove side? 5. Do you have any name ideas for your next player yet? 6. Did your favorite NHL team clinch a playoff spot? 7. What do you believe is the most physically demanding and difficult sport to play? 8. Any movies you’re looking forward to seeing this year?

Ah yes, a mini Rambles. I haven’t done one in a while so let’s get right into it. The S100 class is growing and fast! It makes sense that many people would want to be a part of the centennial VHL class, and it just goes to show how successful the VHL is since now the seasons are going into the triple digits. This summer, the league will be 18 years old— legally an adult— which is crazy to think about, honestly. It takes an entire community to keep a sim league running this long, as some can fold in what seems like no time at all, and I’m proud to be a part of it, having joined back in July 2022, which seems like a lifetime ago. In other news, after a massive 5-point sim today, River Harrington has 65 points in 66 games, which isn’t too shabby for a sophomore defenseman, especially on a stacked team like Moscow. I’m hoping he can keep up this pace and finish with at least a point per game, as I’ve stated in previous articles. He definitely won’t be winning any awards, but I’m proud with his development after only having scored 47 points in his rookie campaign. This was a short one, but that was to be expected with a .com. I honestly feel the struggle when trying to write something that's a minimum 150 words, because it’ll either be too short or too long, and then potentially reach media spot potential. However, this is all I have for tonight. See you in the next one.

HC Davos Dynamo Press Conference You ONLY have to answer 6 of the 8 questions Week Of April 6th 2025 - April 13th 2025 1. There has been some debate over theme week these past few days. Do you believe anything about it should be changed? 2. Who is your favorite all-time VHL “tough guy?” 3. We are about 20 games away from the end of the regular season and the battle between the top 4 in the EU is close. How would you rate Davos’ chances to sit at the top? 4. Personally, one of the biggest reasons for my love for the VHL is its strong community. Are there any members you’ve become good friends with or look up to in your time in the league? 5. If you could only dump all your TPE into one attribute, what would it be? 6. The S100 recreates are pouring in! Do any player names stick out to you yet? 7. Where was the last place you traveled to? 8. Since Alex Ovechkin just broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal-scoring record, let’s start a debate: Ovechkin or Crosby?
