Well, you see, it was kind of an accidental pond. Repairs will be needed to make it more permanent while also making sure we have a viable ice surface. Don't worry, Dogwood's paying for it
-
The cost of repairs is coming out of your performance bonuses lol... but I did promise @dylanjj37a frog pond so this actually works for us!

Looking forward to a great series!

Graphic by @ethanjaeda In the first round of the S93 VHLM Playoffs the Halifax 21st matched up against the defending Founder's Cup Champion Philadelphia Reapers. Though the Reapers were a shell of the team that took home the league's highest honor in S92, they still posed a threat with the likes of Soju @Frank between the pipes and the league's top point scorer Walter Jinn @Adrest245 leading the way up front. The 21st came into this series as the 3rd seed after finishing 2nd overall in points with 106 and were favored against the 72 point Reapers in this series after going 9-2-1 against Philadelphia in regular season action. The series began with Halifax dominating play through the first 3 games, winning those games by a convincing total score of 10-0. Last week's SuperSailor, Jon Webber III @Webberj, was outstanding for the 21st, setting the franchise postseason record for the most playoff shutouts (3) in the process. While he needed to be sharp, especially in some low action games, the defense in front of him did an exceptional job at limiting dangerous scoring opportunities. Halifax would drop game 4 to the Reapers by a score of 4-2, despite outshooting them 47-17 in that game. After the one off night that kept Philadelphia's playoff hopes alive, the 21st returned to form and clinched the series on home ice by a score of 2-1. By the end of the series, Halifax had outshot Philadelphia by a staggering 217-74 margin over the 5 games, outscoring them 14-5. With high hopes of contending for the Founder's Cup, it was a breath of fresh air to see the Halifax captain, Andrew Skilton @ace_five_, leading the way to a first round victory for the 21st. Heading into a second round matchup against the 2nd seed Saskatoon Wild, Skilton leads the team in points with 7, all of them assists. Over the course of the season, Skilton has developed into a premier playmaking defender in the VHLM. Beginning the season as a fresh faced rookie, through hard work on and off the ice he quickly rounded into not only one of the best defenders on a deep 21st blueline, but one of the best two-way defenders in the league. Establishing himself quickly as a leader on the team, he was named the team's captain and has exhibited his value in this role with admirable consistency. In the locker room, he's known for his high level of activity and enthusiasm, often motivating his teammates to push themselves to the next level. His positivity has also been infectious, lifting teammates up in defeat and celebrating with them in success. Skilton is a player who embodies what it means to be a SuperSailor day in and day out and it's long overdue that he is recognized officially with this weekly honor. As the Halifax 21st celebrate a series victory, congratulations to Andrew Skilton on being named the Halifax 21st SuperSailor of the S93 first round! With a tough matchup against Saskatoon on the horizon for the second round, the 21st will rely on Skilton to continue to be a leader for the team as they push on towards the league's highest honor. ༻❁༺ Claimed for week ending 5/5/2024

The VHLM Season 93 is in the books and the playoffs are just around the corner. Coming into the campaign, the Halifax 21st hoped to position themselves well for a run at the Founder’s Cup, and a 2nd place overall finish accomplishes just that. With 106 points and a 51-17-4 record, the 21st trailed Ottawa by 3 points in the race for the Prime Minister’s Trophy as the best team in the regular season, but they won’t mind missing out on that hardware if they can make good on the promise of their roster to contend for the league’s ultimate prize. The last time Halifax won 51 games in a season was back in Season 78 when they had 54 total wins. In the 31 season history of the team, Season 93 ranks as the 5th best in franchise history and for a team that has occupied the VHLM basement in recent history and has yet to win their first Founder’s Cup, the success of this regular season is an opportunity for hope. Of course, nothing can be taken for granted—it's hockey after all and anything can happen—but the 21st have good reason to be proud of their regular season effort and cause to hope for playoff success. Up and down the lineup, the 21st were one of the deepest teams in the VHLM this season. With 72 games played, the Halifax 21st had 9 players with over 50 points on the season, including all 4 of their regular defensemen and 5 of their top forwards. Leading the way, Maple Dogwood @dogwoodmaple, Pierre Marc Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito, and Alexandr Novotny @Patrik Tallinder were all over a point per game and ranked among the league leaders in important stat categories. Dogwood would finish the season ranked 7th overall in goals, 8th in assists, and 4th in the league in total points with 85. Novotny would finish with the 4th most assists with 58 and was the 3rd highest scoring defensman with 75 total points. Bouchard ranked 1st among all centers who had more than 30 faceoffs taken with a 58.84% win rate in the circle with 1990 faceoffs taken across the season. Add this invaluable utility to his 73 points in 72 games and you see his incredible value to this Halifax team. Heading into the playoffs, there is still headroom for the 21st to improve. To break the 4th wall for a moment, at the time of writing, 6 players have reached the 200 TPE limit for the VHLM while the team has 10 forwards, 4 defenders, and a goaltender at or over 110 TPE—most over the 130 mark. If the 21st can make a run deep into the playoffs, there is still opportunity for this team to improve significantly as every player on the roster has been taking big strides this season. If they remain dedicated, this could be a greatly improved team as they go deeper into the playoffs. Morale is high as the regular season draws to an end and this is a team that truly believes in itself. The road ahead will be difficult however as Ottawa, Saskatoon, Houston, and even Las Vegas all come into the playoffs as legitimate contenders. Mississauga and the defending champion Philadelphia Reapers are also teams that cannot be overlooked and underestimated. Once the playoffs begin, the regular season matters very little—anything can happen. It’s what makes this part of the season so exciting and sometimes heartbreaking. The 21st will be hoping that they’re on the right side of history this time around and that they can finally put it together as a franchise and win their first Founder’s Cup. As the only team left in the VHLM yet to win the coveted trophy, that victory would mean a great deal to these players and this franchise as it completes it’s 31st season of play. For first season general manager, Lexie Leitner, this is a great opportunity for the Halifax 21st, “It’s difficult to win in the VHLM and with player turnover every season, it’s difficult to stay competitve for multiple seasons in a row. Right now, we have an amazing team and I’m so proud of each and every one of our players. They’ve done an incredible job all season to get to where we are, but we all know the work isn’t over yet. I believe in our players and I know we’ll get their best once the playoffs begin”. The playoffs are set to begin on either Thursday or Friday this week and first round matchups should be announced later tonight. It is expected that Halifax will be taking on the reigning champion Philadelphia Reapers in their first round matchup as the 3rd seed against the 6th seed, with the winner of this series taking on the winner of Saskatoon and Mississauga. The regular season has been enthralling, but the playoffs is what every team plays for and it’s going to be exciting to see how it all plays out! ༻❁༺ Claimed for week ending 5/5/2024

For the 5th and final week of the regular season, the Halifax 21st are proud to announce Jon Webber III @Webberj as their SuperSailor. In the 13 games this past week, Webber III continued his strong run of play and led the team to a record of 7-3-3 in their important stretch run-- including a 10 game point streak with 7 consecutive wins-- drawing to within 3 points of the first place Ottawa Lynx at the conclusion of the season. During this stretch, Webber III posted back-to-back shutouts against Mississauga and Miami and continued to be a rock for the 21st between the pipes. While his save percentage at .899% continues to stand out as lower than one might expect from a goalie of his quality, his 2.23 GAA ranks him among the top goaltenders in the VHLM and currently ranks him at 2nd on the Halifax 21st all-time list-- lower only than Henry Tucker Jr who only played 8 games with the club. In 60 games this season, Webber III has backstopped the team to 41 wins, losing only 13 times in regulation, and only 3 times in overtime or shootout situations. Those 41 wins already ranks him 10th on the Halifax 21st all-time goaltenders list while he has played significantly fewer games than those players on the list around him. Throughout the season, Webber III has been a huge part of this team's success, especially after Samuel Wazinski found himself on the IA reserve. In 59 starts, he has never been pulled from the Halifax net once and has posted 4 shutouts for the Nova Scotia squad with Founder's Cup aspirations. Off the ice, Webber III has been a model of consistency, putting in work every week to improve his game, modelling the kind of dedication that any manager would hope for in a player. Congratulations to Jon Webber III on a fantastic week and season in the VHLM and on being named the Week 5 SuperSailor. ༻❁༺

The Vasteras Iron Eagles currently sit 3rd in the VHLE with 91 points with 4 games remaining. The point scoring lead on the team is held by the electric VHLE rookie Gianfranco Del Rocco @Victor who has 76 points in 68 games. Second on the team in scoring is rookie defender, Lucy Leitner, with 56 points in 68 games. With 11 goals and 45 assists, Leitner leads the team in the helpers category, and on paper, 11 goals seems like a respectable number, but a quick glance at Leitner's shooting percentage tells a different story. Shooting at 3.86% on the season, Leitner's 285 shots on goal are the most by any defender in the VHLE. When compared to the defender with the next highest shot total, the problem is strikingly clear. Leitner's former Houston teammate, Benjamin Abenduct @Schnee, has 21 goals on 270 shots, shooting a modest 7.78%. With 10 more goals than Leitner on fewer shots and a shooting percentage that is still below league average, it becomes obvious why Leitner was approached this week with a sponsorship deal from Little Bites-- you know, like the company that makes mini-muffins? Last season, critics of Leitner referred to her then as a "muffin factory" owing to her apparent inability to convert shots into goals at a rate comparable to her peers. Though her shooting percentage last season eventually rose to a respectable 8% by the end of the season, it did hover around the 3-4% mark for much of her VHLM rookie campaign. This time around in the VHLE, there seems to be no such puck luck for Leitner who expressed her frustration with her futile shooting efforts. "My main goal is to help the team win, but when you shoot 285 times and only score 11 goals-- something is wrong with that picture. The silver lining, I guess, is it got me this sponsorship and the team is still doing fine overall". The sponsorship deal, which is set to pay Leitner $100,000 and a lifetime's supply of Little Bites muffins, was signed on Monday evening before the Iron Eagles would take on the Rome Gladiators in a back-to-back. Vasteras would eventually take the win in both of those games with Leitner recording the opening goal in the first game, only 5:38 into the 1st period of play. There were reports of Little Bites' interest in Leitner as a brand ambassador last season until her shooting percentage spiked upward and the "muffin factory" moniker fell out of favor. This season, however, the muffin factory is back up and running, churning out muffins for goalies to gobble up. Ever the optimist, Leitner has remained upbeat about the less than flattering comparison and has continued to work on her shot in practice, hoping to shut down muffin production once and for all. At this time, we don't know if the Little Bites sponsorship would be voided if her shooting percentage eclipsed a certain threshold, but for the time being, Lucy "Little Bites" Leitner is rolling in the dough. ──•~❉᯽❉~•── Lauren Lambert for VHL.com

This week, the Halifax 21st are recognizing John Season @dylanjj37 as their SuperSailor. Season, who is expected to announce his retirement this week, has played 131 games with the 21st and has racked up 92 points in those games as a defenseman. Over the past two seasons, he has been a leader in the locker room and on the ice, contributing to the team's culture and helping to lead them through a difficult season 92. In his past 5 games, Season has scored 3 goals and added 2 assists, really elevating his game as of late to help propel the 21st to within 3 points of 1st place overall. In his career, John Season has played 203 regular sason games with Halifax and Las Vegas, scoring 38 career goals and 74 assists. As Halifax pushes for the playoffs in season 93, John Season looks to return to the playoffs for the first time since his rookie season and add to his total of 5 playoff games played. Though he probably flew under the radar in the eyes of some scouts and managers, Season managed to carve out a successful individual career at the VHLM level with his excellent defensive ability. While not the most versatile player, his exceptional puck disrupting abilitiy allows him to stop plays dead in their tracks, recover the puck, and move it up the ice to convert defense into offense. As of this week, he has matched his career high in points (46) with 13 games left to play. As the regular season draws to a close and the playoffs begin, John Season looks to finish his career strong. With the Halifax 21st seeking their first Founder's Cup victory in their 42 season history, perhaps Season can be among the first to hoist the trophy wearing the Halifax blue and white. Congratulations to John Season on being named this week's SuperSailor and for a terrific career! ༻❁༺
