  3. EARLY LIFE Ryan Mantzz was born in February of 2007 in a Wisconsin city along lake Winnebago called Oshkosh. How Ryan fell in love with the game of hockey still does not have a clear answer. His father never played growing up and instead rode bulls, wrestled and played rugby. His mother never played either and was a track star in high school. Around 4 years old Ryan got a pair of ice skates from his grandpa and would take them out every time they would go ice fishing on lake Winnebago. While Ryan enjoyed the fishing, most of his time out there was spent using those ice skates teaching himself how to skate! As Ryan got older his parents signed him up for his youth hockey club. Ryan was always one of the top kids on the youth program with coaches hoping he would continue to put in the effort to grow his skills and become the best he could be. His skating was smooth, his puck control was impressive and he had a competitive drive that set him apart from his peers. His work ethic was also notable, as he was always the first to show up at practice and the last to leave. His parents recognized his dedication and made countless sacrifices to make sure he could attend elite camps and tournaments. All of this hard work and dedication started to catch the eyes of some scouts as he was preparing to enter his freshman year of high school. HIGH SCHOOL CAREER His freshman year Ryan made the varsity hockey team and quickly became one of the standout players. His performance in games was highlighted by his ability to read plays and make crucial passes, as well as his relentless drive on the ice. Ryan finished his freshman year with 35 points in 25 games. His sophomore year is where he started to stand out getting 75 points in 25 games leading the state in scoring, and earning himself all state honors. Along with putting points on the score sheet his leadership skills were also evident, and he was announced team captain by his junior year. In his senior year Ryan led his high school team to the state championships, where he was recognized as one of the top players in the league. His success did not go unnoticed as college and junior hockey scouts began to show interest in him. JUNIOR CAREER After graduating high school Mantzz made the decision to pursue a junior hockey career, aiming to reach the VHL one day. He was drafted in the first round by the Erie Otters of the OHL. In his rookie season with the Otters Ryan made an immediate impact. The transition to junior hockey was tougher than he thought it would be but his maturity and work ethic to get better in the offseason made him stand out. He quickly earned a spot on the top line and his combination of skill, speed, and hockey IQ made him a dangerous scorer in the League. Ryan’s first junior season was filled with highs and lows and he finished with 22 goals and 29 assists in 62 games leading all rookies in goals and points. In his second season he broke out as one of the league's top players. He finished with 34 goals and 45 assists, which landed him a spot in the top 10 in the league for points on the year. Ryan’s ability to control the puck in all three zones and his high hockey IQ made him a player that opposing teams had to focus on. Just like his high school days his leadership was noticed by coaches and teammates, and he was named an alternate captain for the Otters that year. While Mantzz had made a very good name for himself during his time in the OHL he knew the hardest work was still ahead of him as he declared for the S98 VHL draft. POST JUNIORS With the VHL draft in his future Mantzz found himself as a free agent making him eligible to sign with a VHLM team. He decided to sign with Miami late in the year. The jump from juniors to professionals was massive and it showed for Mantzz. Only putting up 2 goals and 5 assists in 34 games something he was not familiar with. Despite the lack of production Mantzz gained lots of knowledge on how to grow as a player in the Leauge due to the great people of the Miami locker room. As his draft day gets closer Mantzz continues to show potential teams what has made him stand out his whole career. His worth ethic and drive to be the best teammate and do what he can to help bring a championship to whatever team is willing to take the chance on him. Word count - 809

  6. 1. Definitely looking forward to any games going on. Excited to see what the wjc is all about! 2. It definitely showcases how great the game is. And I hope it increases viewership its a great game and I don't understand why it's not more popular than it is in the states. 3. Definitely, I've always loved that part of the game. Keeps the game in check, I wish more sports would normalize it. 4. There's a time a place for fights for sure! I wouldn't mind seeing Mantzz get it a scrap or two. 5. Maybe?? I guess I don't understand how it would work necessarily. A good scrap does get everyone hype though so I can see being for it 6. To be honest I couldn't name any of the houses, haven't read or seen the movies! That being said I took a quick quiz and Gryffindor is what I got. So what that means not too sure !

Yeah definitely not what I was expecting. Lots of penalties and they took advantage hats off to Las Vegas. Ryan Mantzz is going to be busy in weight room and working on his skating. Gotta bring a championship back to Miami next year 3. Yeah it should be a fun tourney to watch! Excited to see the top players representing their countries 4. I have not, still upset about the first round exit 5. Definitely not keep the cold coming more time for ice fishing 6. I think I've heard this one before so I'm gonna say a shadow?!
  12. Ryan Mantzz Scouting Report Position- RW Height- 6' 2" Weight- 215lbs Shoots- Left Age- 18 Ryan Mantzz signed to the Miami Marauders at about the halfway point of the season. In 34 games Mantzz put up 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points and a +10 rating. While the numbers might not stand out as anything special Mantzz has some areas to his game that make him a desirable draft target in his upcoming VHLM draft. Let's take a look at some pros and cons to his game. PROS 1- Hockey IQ: Mantzz understands the game very well and can read plays well in the offensive zone as well as the defensive zone. With the puck he can find teammates with ease, and without the puck he is always finding the open areas to be for easy goals. 2- Skating: Mantzz has an explosive first few strides helping create separation between him and defenders helping win possession in tight spaces. Mantzz also has the speed to pull away from defense on the rush 3- Playmaking: Mantzz has top tier vision when it comes to finding open teammates around the net. Making him a valuable asset on the power play and 5 on 5 situations. 4- Discipline: In his 34 games this season Mantzz has 0 PIM showing teams that he can be counted on to not take any stupid penalties and not put his team in bad situations CONS/Room for improvement 1- Shot blocking: in the 34 games he has played this season Mantzz only has 1 blocked shot which may be a red flag to coaches around the Leauge. He has made it a point to improve this part of his game in the off season 2- Can be knocked of puck easy: At 6'2" and 215 pounds Mantzz isn't small by any means but he has shown at times that he can get knocked off the puck pretty easily. Leading to turnovers in the offensive zone. Hitting the weight room this off season should be high on his priority list 3- Willingness to be psychical: Mantzz lacks the physical side of the game. He can be timid to go into corners at times and doesn't seem willing to go to the hard areas on the ice to grind out goals. A good off season hitting the weights should help Mantzz gain the confidence he needs to go into those dirty areas and help whatever team drafts him Overall While Ryan Mantzz has areas in his game he needs to improve he shows the mentality needed to make those improvements. He is a great player and has a lot of upside that will instantly help any team that is willing to take the chance on him in the draft. Mantzz is willing to do whatever it takes to make it to the next level and help his team win a championship (484 words)
  13. 1. I think it's a steal for LA. Luka I would argue not even in his prime yet for Davis who is at the tail end of his career in my opinion which shouldn't hold much weight I don't follow the NBA that close. But yeah good for LA. Really trying to get bron and bronny a ring together 2. I haven't followed NHL that close this year either so I don't really have a thought out opinion on it. Chicago still sucks so it's rough 3. I'm confident. I think we have too end scoring talent that can put up numbers we saw that late this season as we get into playoffs and I think we have great defense and an amazing trendy. Hard not to be confident 4. I think it helps a lot. Everyone is contributing at this point and our guys that have been here all year are on fire lately. 5. I'm still pretty new to this so I haven't followed much VHL yet. I'm sure once I'm drafted and have a future team I'll pay more attention to it. But I'm loving my time with this team at the moment 6. From what I understand so far is the VHLM is a development Leauge so personally I would say a hall of fame wouldn't be necessary. I'm All for stats and accolades, but I don't know im not a fan of just settling and being okay with a hall of fame in a development Leauge.
