  1. Game 204 | Prague @ Helsinki: It was a wide open back-and-forth affair as the Prague Phantoms squared off against the Helsinki Titans. While the fans were delighted with all the fireworks, neither coach appeared too happy with the teams trading chances and combining for a dizzying 14 goals in the contest. The run and gun started right from the opening draw, yet it was Prague who enjoyed most of the finish jumping out to a 4-1 first period lead. Heading to the second, the Titans were faced with a hard choice, they could either roll over and accept this just wasn't their night, or they could put their heads down and work their way back up the mountain. They choose the latter. Much like a dog on a bone, Helsinki scored the only two goals of the second and then added five more in the third to seal a very impressive 8-6 come-from-behind win! * * * Very special shout out to: Bryce Woodworth who led the way with an amazing six points (three goals and three assists) to take first star honors! 2. Game 203 | Seattle @ Vancouver: It was a hard fought see-saw battle, between the Seattle Bears and the Vancouver Wolves. While Vancouver struggled to find their game early, the Bears charged out of the gate and drew first blood on the powerplay at 8:28. Nevertheless, despite being outshot 13 to 2 in the opening frame, the Wolves managed to escape the first with a one-one tie. Heading to the second, the Bears once again dominated early, retaking the lead with their second powerplay marker this time at 4:49. Fortunately for Vancouver fans, the Wolves remained undaunted and finally found their footing in the form of back-to-back goals from (eventual first star) Wayne Gretzky. It was now 3-2 Vancouver headed for the third. Remarkably, for the third time in a row, the Bears once again displayed their early period mastery by evening the score at 2:40. Then with the clock winding down, the two teams remained perilously deadlocked at three. It was a tie game that neither regulation nor overtime could decide, so we moved on to the unpredictable shootout. Seattle shot first - but missed the net! Next up was Vancouver's Pierre Marc Bouchard, who made a beautiful backhand to forehand move before beating the goaltender just under the blocker! From there the goalies stole the show with two brilliant saves followed by Seattle's last gasp just barely missing the net. And that was that, an exciting 4-3 win for the Vancouver Wolves! 3. Chapter One: The first time you experience it, it grips you like nothing you've ever felt before. Exhilarating, captivating and any of a hundred other words all seem insufficient to convey the true essence of the moment. Yes we've all had exciting times and thrilling moments sprinkled throughout our lives, but nothing, and I do mean nothing, can ever prepare you for your first VHL home game. Imagine if you will an atmosphere that is so electric that you actually feel a tingling in the tips of your fingers and the tips of your toes. Imagine wave after wave of euphoric energy cascading down from the sold out crowd like a tsunami crashing against the shore. As a rookie, it was almost impossible not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment, and yet somehow and someway we had to try and manage our reaction to the situation. To this day I remain uncertain as to how well or how poorly I coped in the midst of such an existential, or dare I say surreal experience. I did my best to stay focused and play within my game, but how could I help but be inspired and egged on to attempt dazzling new heights? It was during one of these crescendos of inspiration that everything changed. The crowd was in a state of utter pandemonium, and then, as if someone flipped a switch, it all became deathly quiet. The lights went out, and the cavernous arena was suddenly engulfed by a flood of eerie darkness. I turned to look for my teammates but it was too late as pitch black had already swallowed every living soul. "What happened?! What happened?!" I cried aloud - only to be met with echoes of indiscernible and distant voices. Try as I might to hear, none of the voices broke through until suddenly, a flash of bright light. It was like an unexpected oasis in the middle of a desert, a sudden beacon of hope in a dark and sullen shroud. This must be the way out I thought and so I proceeded cautiously toward the exit. Step by step I groped through layers of black void steadily advancing in the direction where the light had so briefly shone. "Is anyone there?!" I muttered in stunned disbelief and then... Another light! Only this time from the other direction. Where to go now? Toward the first or the second? I barely had time to consider my choice before a strange unfamiliar voice burst in as if emerging from a deep tunnel. [Strange Voice]: "Chase can you hear me? What's the last thing you remember?" All I could think to say was: "Remember? What do you mean remember?" And then, as if on cue an image of Mom and Dad attending my first ever VHL game poured into my brain. As my parents both stood before me, I could see the pride etched across their faces, especially Mom who was always so much more facially expressive than Dad. There, on the eve of my VHL debut, they didn't have to say a thing, for without a single word I knew exactly how they felt. I remember Mom stepping forward to give me a great big hug, and as she held on tight, I whispered gently in her ear: "Thanks Mom, thanks for everything you did to help me get here!" Yeah, that was it. That's the last thing I remember, or wait was it... [TO BE CONTINUED] 585 Words
