After their Cinderella run in the Season 75 playoffs, many wondered what would be next for the Chicago Phoenix.  While they were losing a retiring Jeff Downey, most of the team was still young, with their primes still ahead of them.  Would this become a building block for the future, or would it be the early peak of a team that could never quite reach their potential?  Now that the Season 76 playoffs have arrived, it certainly seems to be the former.  After finishing as the #1 seed in the North American Conference, the Phoenix first had a date with destiny in the conference semifinals.  The Seattle Bears, the team Chicago had shockingly swept in last year’s wild card round, defeated Calgary in the wildcard round this season and were looking to turn the tables on the favored Phoenix.  It was not to be, however, as Chicago would end up the victors after six games.  The next test would be a team they’d never met before: the Vancouver Wolves, a perennial contender who had gotten their revenge on the DC Dragons from last season and the team Chicago had passed in the latter part of the season in order to take first place.  Surprisingly, the series almost didn’t even seem to be close as Chicago cruised to the finals on a 4-0 sweep.

Now, however, comes the moment of truth: the finals against the Warsaw Predators, a fellow S73 expansion team.  The two teams have similar profiles, having both built through the draft in their early years before entering their window of contention by acquiring more experienced stars to complement the roster.  Who will come out on top?  Only time will tell.
