Bayley 419
First, I would like to preface this article that Fonzi is a great candidate and will do Vancouver justice. He is a great member of the team, so I wish him luck. -------------------------------------------- Dear Diary... I am absolutely frustrated. Imagine spending many hours doing scouting, looking at trades, preparing the team because you are an Interim GM only to have the rug ripped out from under you. I had no intention of being a GM in this league in the VHL, that is why I didn't even post in the thread about that. However, Vancouver meant a lot to me. @Beaviss gave a shot to Finn Davison, and then went and picked me higher than I probably should have gone. I love that team - they were close to me. So, I went for it. I spent so much time planning what the future would hold, talking trades, even looking at extensions and talking about those to find out I didn't get the position. Why bother? Why did I bother applying? It was pretty clear that the Blues had their ideal candidate in mind, and it was not me. For whatever reason, and that's fine. Why allow me to make trades? Why allow me to do anything if you knew it was not going to be me. At the point that I am so upset about something that it impacts my IRL because that's how much I wanted this. I had a plan, I was ready to go with it, but I don't even get a message back from the blues. I get a measly 10 questions in my forum DM to answer. That was the interview. I've never really interacted much with the blues here before, so who knows what I could bring? I feel that I wasted my time. I was even told by multiple people that typically AGMs have a good shot at getting the job (which they should). I knew what Beavs was thinking. I knew what the plan was. Frustrating. I wasted my time doing scouting, drafting, getting the entire plan, it has nothing more than a feel of disappointment and that I wasted my time. Fonzi did offer me the AGM job again, but I did turn it down. The only reason I took the AGM job was to help the team, to learn everything I could to be a GM of this team. When the opportunity presented itself, I wasn't even in the running. They knew they wanted fonzi (again, great candidate, not upset about the choice). I wish I knew before. I wouldn't have made trades or even tried to plan it out when it would have not been my choice. I wouldn't even have applied. I don't see me applying for another position, I don't see myself applying for any GM job, because why would it matter? They already have who they want on a shortlist anyway and if I can't get it when I am the current AGM and acting GM, why would I even apply again? What does the future hold for me? That's a good question, I do not have the answer to. Will I keep updating here knowing I will always be disappointed? I wish I could tell you that answer. I give 100% to what I do, and if I cannot give 100%, what the hell is the point? I'll always be upset, disappointed, and frustrated, so maybe it is best I just move on. I am probably on the block currently for this reason, which I don't blame fonzi. At worst case, I am a 855 TPE defenseman that can help your team. I don't know what the plan is for my player. Thank you for reading. I spent some time thinking about what to write. I don't even care how many words this is because I doubt I will claim anyway. I don't care if you see me as a complainer or whiny bitch. You can think what you want. I needed to get this out for my experience as this meant a lot to me. I appreciate you reading. Gustav 6,414
I love Fonzi, have known him for a while, thought it was great that he finally ended up with a GM job after being a great contributor to our community for as long as he has. It seems you feel the same way and I appreciate that. But I also definitely understand your disappointment as you were the one running the team for a bit. I'll agree that it felt weird when you didn't end up with the job, given that you more or less had the job and did things with it to show that you were competent. I personally expected you to end up with it when the forum application went up. So without commenting on what the "right thing to do" for the blue team was, one way or another (as I wasn't involved in that discussion and don't know the details of it), I can certainly imagine why this is incredibly frustrating. I haven't had much to do with you on a personal level here, but I've always seen you as a decent person who knows what's up. So I sincerely hope that you stick around here and one day find yourself running a team. I wish I knew before So, I'll come out and say it: there was nothing predetermined about the hiring of any of the 4 GMs this past little bit. I understand you are frustrated that you didn't get the position, but just because the previous GM handed over all responsibility without discussing it with anyone doesn't mean there was any sort of promise that you would get the position when they stepped down. Each hire has ended up with multiple people who were extremely qualified, and felt they deserved the GM role, disappointed because they did not get the position, and this one is no different. Ultimately, we went with the best candidate, and that's all there is to it, so please do not imply there was anything nefarious in the hiring of fonzi, or any of the other 3 GMs, as we literally went through an interview process for entirely this reason. I did not mention anything about a promise. I am also entitled to my own opinion about the hiring process. I appreciate you clarifying, but I am just voicing my opinion from my side on the hiring process. I think this article was pretty blunt that if I thought there was anything nefarious in the hiring, I would have said it which, again, I did not. I guess this whole article just reads of entitlement to the job, which Bek was clear from the start was not yours to lose, and implying that we have a short list of members who we want to give the job to implies that things were pre-determined, which they were not. Maybe nefarious is the wrong word, but implying anything but a fair process is disrespectful not only to Bek and I, but also everyone else involved, especially fonzi. 2 hours ago, Poptart said: Why allow me to make trades? Why allow me to do anything if you knew it was not going to be me. For example this: Beav gave you the responsibility of being a GM without consulting anyone first. When he finally confirmed that he was stepping down after telling us that he planned to remain a GM, the draft had passed, and rather than leave the team without a GM while we conducted interviews, Bek made it clear that you would remain with an interim title, which, typically, interim GMs are allowed to make moves that would better position the franchise. Ultimately, I guess, thank you for your time in the role, as the team would have operated without an active GM had beav not appointed you as his AGM with GM powers, and I hope that you can continue to enjoy the league in a member capacity. I don't need your 'I guess'. I already had told Fonzi about posting an article about my experience. We already chatted about it and he knew it was coming. As I mentioned, literally in the first line, that this has nothing to do with Fonzi. I mentioned it a couple times in the article as well. This is purely about my experience. You are entitled to say how it reads and if I'm coming off as entitled, again, you are entitled to that opinion. If your mentioning "it was not yours to lose" is from the templated interview questions, I find that quite interesting. I'd hope to see more interactions during an interview process than just the interviewee talking at someone. I've never really interacted with any of the blues to know much about me nor anyone else who may be interested in a position. Maybe that's my fault, sure it could be, but I still think that the process just was frustrating. You can call me a whiny bitch or entitled and chalk it to that and keep everything the same or you could take feedback and try to improve the process so maybe someone won't feel this way next time. No hard feelings towards anyone that made the decision, but it still does not take away from my feelings on the situation. bigAL 2,176
It hurts so much when you get your hopes up for something you really want, especially something you didn't know you really wanted until it happened, and then it doesn't happen. Hurting sucks, and I hope you can find peace soon. I think the awkward thing here is that in every GM change this offseason, 3 VHL and 2 VHLM, every outgoing GM publicly or privately nominated someone for their job and that someone always got the job: Frostbeard made it clear he wanted Hylands to have his job, Jubis made it clear he wanted Ricer to have his job, Victor made it clear he wanted Spartan to have his job, Spartan made it clear he wanted Jiggs to have his job, Cow made it clear he wanted Juice to have his job. I get why you're frustrated Bayley, Beav made it clear he wanted you to have his job. But I do think in all those situations, they had a long list of excellent, qualified candidates, and in the case of a tie, the edge goes to the one with the reference. They didn't get it because their outgoing GM nominated them, they got the job because they had been on the management track for a long time, wanted and were ready for a VHL GM job, and got a reference from the outgoing GM. In our chats both fonzi and I were genuinely surprised it wasn't you who got the job because of all the reasons listed up there, but it makes sense why. It's fair they chose someone who has been actively trying to get a GM job for a long time, is putting in the work, taking other community jobs, and open to GMing anywhere the team needs them to. Take a look at fonzi's path as AGM, moderator, World Cup commish, super active even outside his own LR. That's someone who has talked the talk and walked the walk for a sustained and impressively long time. You said you didn't even really want a GM job, you just wanted to help out in Vancouver. There's such a small number of available jobs, it's only fair to give it to someone who actually worked hard for one of those few jobs. I know you don't want to take anything away from fonzi, but you have to recognize that these days VHL GM is a huge, huge job that people work towards their whole career, and not something you can just right-place-right-time into. Anyways, you were a VHL GM for way longer than any of us will ever be. Enjoy it, use it, build on it, and you might get the chance again. fonziGG 1,068
Ayo I just got around to seeing this. I'm going to try and keep this short since it's also dinner time for me ATM. I respect the shit out of Poptart for taking the role and doing such an excellent job during the offseason. I understand and fully respect why Pop is disappointed and I think it's natural to be. He's a great member and honestly, I hope that in the future he can return into the VHL GM fold. Pop and I have been involved in multiple leagues together and theres absolutely no disrespect here between us. I also understand where the blues are coming from as well. It's a tough situation to be in, definitely. At the end of the day, Poptart is a wolf and will be a wolf for as long as he can be.
