Wranglers make the playoffs

Tom Eagles and the Wranglers achieved their goal for this season as they have made the VHL Playoffs. The Wranglers finished 3rd overall in their conference and will play the defending champions, Seattle Bears, in the first round.

 

" We're excited to be back in the playoffs and I think we have great momentum going into the playoffs " said Tom " In our last game of the season, we beat Seattle 3-2 so we know what were capable of"

The team in general had a very good season. The Wranglers were led by Luke Thornton @Jtv123, Andrew Su @Da_Berr and Nathan Perry @tinafrombobsburgers who were offensive threats and offensively carried the team. Luke finished as the leading scorer with 41 goals, 44 assists and 85 points. This marked his best season as a Wrangler and has been a breakout year for the left wing. He will need to continue his strong play heading into the playoffs if the Wranglers want a chance to win.

 

Andrew Su and Nathan Perry both finished with 82 points each. This was also Nathan's best season yet and with his recent 4 year extension he will be able to continue producing for the Wranglers. He can only get better. Andrew was a new acquisition to the team and has helped them from the start. His playmaking abilities helped lead the team back to the playoffs.

On the defensive side the 2 leaders were Prout @Prout and Tom Eagles. While Walker was a huge asset and great addition to the team, he only played 33 games for Calgary so we did not include him in here.

Prout followed up last seasons success with a even better season this year. He finished with a total of 69 points and played a solid defensive game. He has been making strides year after year and the team will need him to be focused in order to solidify the blue line heading into a tight series against Seattle.

While Tom had an off-season and regressing in his point totals, he still did enough to be second in scoring on the Wranglers. In order for him to mark this season as a success, he has to step it up in the playoffs and be able to significantly contribute in the playoffs.

As for Goalies, the Wranglers were lucky to have the depth they did. Starter Askarov @Gooningitup kept the team on his shoulders throughout the season. Some of the games the Wranglers won, they had no business winning, but thanks to Askarov they did. For the Wranglers to progress past the champs, Askarov will once again have to carry the weight and play spectacular hockey.

Clapbombsrus @ClapbombsRusalso stepped up big when called upon and gave the Wranglers 6 much needed wins. This goalie is the future for the Wranglers and it was great to see him get some games in and get feedback from Askarov.

The other big thing that helped the Wranglers get into the playoffs and which will get them past the first round is the amount of solid depth they have. All across the lineup they have players that can step up and make a splash in the playoffs.
