This article will be published in two parts, so we will write about four of the players this week and the other five will follow next week. We hope you enjoy the article! Blaine Olynick At the beginning of the season there was some discussion about Blaine Olynick potentially leaving the Express, but he put an end to these speculations very quickly by signing a five-year extension that will keep him in Cologne for the rest of his career. And it looks like this kind of safety was just what Olynick because this season the sophomore had a real break-out year. He was one of the main reasons that a team that nobody expected to make the playoffs was in a playoff-spot until midway through the season, when they decided to sell off some players, and even after that he continued to play good and ended the season with more wins (36) than losses (26 + 5 in OT/SO). His 0.920 Save-Percentage was the 4th best in the league, better than that of many playoff-goalies and his 2.67 GAA was a big step up compared to his rookie campaign as well. If he continue to play like that in the future, the Express have found their goalie to start a run for the cup. Cody Inko When he was traded to Cologne, Cody Inko wasn’t more than a cap dump, but he still ended up having a fairly productive season with 44 points in total, 12 of them for Cologne in 21 games. His stint in Cologne marked the end of Inko’s VHL career since he had already announced his retirement following the conclusion of this season and it allowed him to end it at the team that drafted him and that he had spent the majority of his career with before being traded to Vasteras a few seasons ago. Dimothenis Vlasis Rookie sensation Dimothenis Vlasis came into the league with a bang and should have a great chance at the Stolzschweiger Trophy for best rookie this off-season. He lead all Cologne Express players in points this past season, narrowly beating out Logan Laich 70 to 69, with 51 of these points being assists. After being a pure offensive defenseman in juniors he has rounded out his game nicely by now, registering over 250 hits and 150 shots blocked. Some experts have questioned his work ethic recently, if Vlasis returns to working as hard as he has so far then the sky is the limit for this young player! Jakob Linholm When Jakob Linholm came to Cologne as part of the Logan Laich deal he was nothing more than a throw-in, but since then he has been a very pleasant surprise for the Express. The young forward who had missed a lot of practice hours for the New York Americans began working out again shortly after he arrived in Cologne and has been a good contributing factor in their top-6 since then. He managed 61 points in 72 games this season and while he didn’t particularly impress defensively, he wasn’t a liability in his own end either. The team is pulling together but a few pieces short of actually doing anything. Great work though.
