Current Personal Situation

I don’t actually talk much about my own personal situation on the forums or on the discord, but this is a somewhat unique case and actually ties in slightly to my first VHL point. As it stands, my work is on strike based on not receiving a high enough pay rise that reflects the alarming rise in inflation and the cost of living over here in the UK. I think this will probably balance out in regards to if it effects my VHL activity, but it’s inspired me to work to get some of our VHL Players more money!

Get Players Paid!

Before a player finds a VHL team in the VHLM, they are paid $1.5M, a player in the VHLE without a VHL team is paid $1.5M, however a young prospect who has a VHL team but plays in the minors may only get $1M or $1.25M, despite the fact that there’s no real benefit to this for a VHL team as they don’t count against the cap and it’s literally impossible for a $1M player to play in the VHL.  Therefore I propose we just make the first finance under 400 TPE, $1.5M for rookies, $2M for Prime

New VHLM Commissioners

Spartan and Gustav were hired for the VHLM Commissioners out of a field of quite a few high quality candidates and I’m sure they’ll do a great job. Spartan has held many jobs in the league (although quite bizarrely seemed to have every single job possible that was very off-season intenstive!) and Gustav has been a strong voice in the BOG for a number of seasons now, although he does hate the VHLE so I’m interested to see if that dynamic affects any future changes in the future! But yes, overall very good hirings, especially illustrated by their first change

VHLM Job Pay Goes Up

The VHLM GM job, when done properly, is one of the most time-consuming tasks in the VHL but, with job pay being at 2 TPE for quite a while, it was never reflected properly in the rewards that they got for doing the job. Now, Spartan and Gustav have upped the TPE for a VHLM GM to 4 TPE and I think that’s a very good change. I’d personally been pitching on my podcasts for VHLM GM (along with other jobs like Fantasy Zone) to get upped to 6 TPE, but at least it’s finally more than 2 TPE

VHLE Playoff Change

The VHLE also made a change that I was a big fan of by increasing the number of teams that make their playoffs from 4 to 5, mirroring the setup that the VHL had when it had eight teams in the league. While I could understand why they might have started with 4, I think the past seasons in the VHLE have shown that there have been numerous strong 5th place teams in it’s short history, so it’s not like places are upping for no apparent reason and gives the still new VHL members more chances to make the playoffs

VHL Cap Increase

The VHL cap was difficult to deal with last season with the hybrid era depreciation not having as much effect on TPA counts as the meta era depreciation and this will have been added to this season with only three players facing the 3% depreciation with the nine-season era of depreciation coming into effect for the first time. Thus, with resolution to the depreciation issue still being discussed, the cap was upped by $2M to $42M. It’s a solid short-term fix but I’m definitely more interested at what the future depreciation rules are going to be at this point.

VHL GM Hires

With Malmo and New York GM’s Dom and Frescoelmo stepping aside, new GM’s were needed and the league decided to promote both KhaleebTheMighty and Thadthrasher  from the VHLE to fill those roles respectively. I hadn’t really had much interaction with either of these at the point they were hired (mostly cause they joined while I wasn’t active in the league) but they’ve clearly been an asset to the VHLE since it launched, so they were good hires and I look forward to seeing what they can do in the big leagues, especially to see if Thad break’s NYA’s cup drought.

VHLE GM Hires

And thus, the knock-on effect of hiring VHLE GMs to the VHL meant that there were two new vacancies in the E, and that led to Daniel Janser taking over Istanbul and myself taking over Stockholm. Daniel has done lots of good stuff in the league and has been incredibly active since joining (illustrated with the 1000+ TPE count of his player), so I look forward to what he brings to the E. Leandrofg was hired for Cologne to replace BarzalGoat and they will be another great selection also with some VHLE AGM experience to their name already.

The Long Wait To Hire GMs

The VHL GM roles took a surprisingly long time to be filled when you look at when the GMs declared they would not be continuing in the role. The earliest I saw news that Dom would be stepping down was August 8th, and, while Frescoelmo made a topic on last Monday (the 23rd ) confirming he was stepping down, it was apparently known heading into the off-season that he wouldn’t be continuing.  The opening wasn’t advertised though till the 25th August, three days after the season finished and only a couple of days before the VHL Draft.

The Replaced GMs Stepped Up Big Time

Given the late advertisement for the job, this meant that both Frescoelmo and Dom had to continue in the role both during the draft and the early part of Free Agency and they definitely deserve props for the effort they put into a job they knew they weren’t going to be doing for much longer. Frescoelmo in particular did a real good job with NYA, trading up in order to draft the highest TPE player in the Season 85 draft Daniel Weaver along with securing a very good free agent signing in Taylor Mourning

The Knock-on Effect on The VHLE

Fresco and Dom weren’t the only ones to control drafts of their former team as the new VHL GMs Thad and Khaleeb also had to run their old team’s VHLE Drafts given they were picked for the VHL just a day before the VHLE Draft. The restrictions of the portal though (can only manage one team) meant that they couldn’t offer Free Agency bids for VHLE players, meaning that by the time new VHLE GMs could sign players, 15 Free Agents had already been signed by other teams, which isn’t exactly fair on the new GM’s or Acyd/RJ.

Add new role to VHL?

Josh and Beketov are terrific at what they do and are great members, but I do wonder if (especially now that they sim and comparing the number of roles they hold to similar leaders in our affiliate leagues) they are maybe taking on too many responsibilities, especially since the VHL only has the same amount of commissioners that the VHLE and VHLM have. So maybe bringing in a role for somebody to just help run the VHL league aspect (e.g. Hiring/Firing GM’s, running drafts, checking Louth rule, Experience handouts), that could ease their workload a little bit and improve efficiency?

Whoa, Free Agency Actually Being Interesting!

Free Agency the last couple of seasons have not produced many star players transitioning to different teams, but this season’s Free Agency has seen an abundance of them. Vancouver landed star forwards Nico Pearce and Anze Miklavz, New York boosted their team up with Taylor Mourning, Poopy Peepants and Henri Le Massif, DC Dragons got younger with Milan Dvorak and Nezuko, Chicago found another good defenseman to pair with Bo Johansson with Alessandro Nano, London picked up star defenseman Jerome Reinhart and Malmo brought in cup winning center Bogdan Trunov from Warsaw.

Helsinki Issues

With Helsinki getting badly hurt this off-season after losing a huge amount of players to Free Agency and Rayzor (who has no AGM) being absent during FA, both Boom and CowboyInAmerica posted media articles voicing their concerns about the current Helsinki situation. While Rayzor has returned from his absence citing health problems (and luckily seems to be doing better now), with all the star FA’s gone and most teams entering a rebuild already having traded away their top assets, it seems very unlikely that the Titans will be able to improve upon their Conference Semi-Final appearance last season.

Chicago’s Free Agent Signings

Chicago had a pretty solid Free Agency period. While they didn’t go for too many big targets due to cap concerns, they were able to resign star winger Baby Bob, who had finished sixth in points and third in goals last season. With all the forwards around them continuing to improve, Chicago could have a very potent offense this season. Their new FA signing Nano also had a strong showing last season, finishing fifth among defensemen in points, one position ahead of new teammate Bo Johansson. Some teams may have been more spectacular in FA, but Chicago got it done.

Draft Recap: No GM Wants Themselves!

With a draft with four GM players having an opportunity to select their own player, you would have thought one might have drafted themselves, but that wasn’t the case! Frank had first overall, but let his player John Jameson fall to second overall, where Prague picked Frank’s player and so Acydburn didn’t take their player Matt Murdock. Chicago would’ve struggled to draft Jeff’s Karl Pedersen with their mid second and instead went 19th to Davos and Rayzor let their player fall past both of their second round selections, with Prague taking them with the first pick of the third round

Draft Recap: Murdock Falls To 7

While it wasn’t really likely that Acydburn would take Matt Murdock at seven given they had the talented prospect Clueless Wallob on their books, it’s maybe a surprise that Murdock fell as far as they did, with a potential location London electing to pick a goalie later in the draft instead. It looked like Murdock was set to potentially be Riga’s future goalie at eighth overall, but Moscow made the trade with Toronto to move to seventh and snag the best goalie in the class and the heir apparent to Moscow legend Papa Emeritus

Draft Recap: Davos Can’t Keep Getting Away With This!

Crazily, this is the third draft in succession that Davos have had the 19th overall selection and, for some reason, they always seem to have some kind of steal drop in their lap at this pick! In Season 83, they somehow managed to pick Jake Thunder, who many had as a mid/late-1st round selection. In Season 84, they picked up Noodles Marconi, who was the eighth highest TPE player at time of draft and this time, they get Karl Pedersen, who was also the eighth highest TPE player heading into this draft. Please, no more Davos #19 picks!

Chicago Draft Recap

Chicago didn’t have much presence in this draft, but they elected to go with Care Bear with their 22nd overall pick in the draft. While the pick was a bit of a surprise given Bear’s total TPE at the point of the draft, Bear has a lot of potential and hit 10 capped TPE in the week before the draft, when quite a few players in the first round weren’t. While they missed last week’s earning due to technical issues, thecaringbear will hopefully be back to form next week and go on to represent Chicago at the top level

Going For The TPE Record

The Boys The Boys Season3 GIF - The Boys The Boys Season3 ...

That’s how it’s going to be, scorched earth! Doing some maths on what it’d take to break the current TPE record of Ryan Kastelic, already adding my future donations, yearly uncapped TPE packages and training camps, I’m looking at having to earn roughly 135-140 TPE a season, which usually last between 8-10 weeks, so that is very doable. It may wind up though that my greater challenge is fending off my other currently active competitors, such as Nico Pearce, Xavier Booberry and Bo Johansson.  Looking forward to the challenge though, should be fun!

Weirdly enough growing up 19 was my favourite number...

Even someone who can handle queries from members would be of benefit. I received nothing back from my DM to both regarding the HEL/Rayz concern. Unless I should have expressed my concerns to someone else instead?

I can't think of anyone else who would have in a better position to talk to about it. Potentially a BOG member you could trust to voice your concerns as well (since it'd be more difficult to have a BOG thread go ignored and they could at least let you know if it was getting discussed or not) but I think the commissioners were the best people for you to reach out to in that situation.

Thanks my man! Looks like it might take a while (sounds like we're already planning more) but I'm hopeful that it can get resolved at some point!

This is true but I'm not about to sabotage it or anything (and I'd think whatever has the potential to have an impact across more than one league wouldn't be an executive decision anyway). The E can sleep knowing I'll let them be inactive live in peace.

I love the topics that you writing I love that you talk deeply about players pay and I just see like you talking about that some players in the vhl get payed less than vhlm players and that is un fair Like if i think about the vhl paid I think of 4 million or high as 6 million but that low for a free agent that is like dirt money for that level of a player
