Gustav 6,428
Doubles weeks upon doubles weeks...damn. You'd think I'd be taking January off after dropping 2,700 words on you guys last week, but no--both VHL administration and myself developed other plans. As I also covered last week, I've got two player store doubles weeks that I need to write things to claim, and the holiday bonus that dropped today means I'll be doubling up on my PTs for the next three. And I suppose I could just double up by making my job pay my PT, but I'm bored a strong believer in earning for the people and creating VHL content (at least I am this week). If this article seems familiar, that's because its subject matter is. Occasionally, I'll look through an index after a season is over and pull out some of the less obvious things in it for the league to look through. You can learn a thing or two about your own player if you're mentioned, and it's also relatively digestible rather than being one of my typical word dumps. I hope you enjoy! London's Thor Odinson (@GoalPlays) didn't shoot much, but led all non-bot players in shooting percentage after scoring 8 goals on 64 shots. Interestingly, Odinson shot with just about the same accuracy in S90, finishing 4th. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, Riga's Reginald the Dodo (@Esso2264) finished dead last in P/20, clocking in with just 5 points (and a 3.23% for shooting) in almost 1,900 minutes played. Perhaps "Drunk Bird" is still the case. Speaking of minutes played, LA must really know how to minimize ice time for their bots. Many teams run with fewer than four defensemen, but LA's three make up three of the top four slots in total minutes. You would expect the leaders in plus-minus to have higher point totals, right? Even if you're not scoring much, you'll likely end up accidentally picking up assists here and there if the others on the ice play well enough to give you the numbers. This is generally true, but Davos' William Futch (@Futch) and Big B (@Bigb33) are the epitome of point-efficient play despite not being very visible otherwise. They're part of a tie for 8th in plus-minus (with a +35), although Futch has 43 points (and only 4 penalty minutes with 5 hits) and Big B has 15. It makes you wonder how much impact really shows up in those point totals and on what level these two have contributed to team play. Also in Davos, no one got in more fights than Alfred Champagne (@Anthique), though no one got beaten up more either. Champagne lost five fights, while no other player lost more than two. Although, it's fair to mention that Champagne shares the lead in fights won with AK92 Wit da Hoodie (@hedgehog337)--both with three. Leading all goalers in penalty minutes was New York's Brandt Fuhr, but second place is fairly unexpected--it's Vancouver's bot backup. With only 14 games played, ß-VAN G2 put up 15 penalty minutes. That's an odd number, too, so somewhere in there is a major penalty! Sadly, the index doesn't show fights for goalers, so I can't tell you what that was, but I'm very curious. Toronto's Joel Castle (@animal74) had a great season, but perhaps not many know that he saved 20 of 21 penalty shots, good for a percentage of .952--no other (non-bot) goaler has more than a .900. Notably, Castle has PS upgraded to 55...goalers take note! Well, that's got to be 500 words at this point.
