Where did it all go so wrong?

The father walking the daughter down the aisle, taking your hat off when you walk into a Church,  not looking someone in the eyes at the urinals, these are all traditions that people have followed for thousands of years.  What made them special is not you doing the act itself there and then, but you knowing that so many people have followed the same path in the past. Participating and doing your best in following the traditions is a way to show your respect to those who came before you.  

 

Where did it all go so wrong? Malmo Nighthawks have named goalie Ash Sparks as their captain.  There is only one word that can be used to describe the nomination: abomination.  Instead of walking the daughter to the aisle, they texted the daughter two hours before the wedding and said they went to play a few rounds of golf with their mates. Instead of taking the hat off when walking into a Church, they took their pants off also. Instead of avoiding eye contact at the urinals in an half-empty bathroom, they walked to the next urinal and offered their hand for a handshake.  

 

What Malmo Nighthawks have done is an attack against the essence of the game known as ice hockey, the beauty of the game is being tarnished, but that comes second to the boldness and sheer wickedness of the Malmo Nighthawks players and staff members. The members of the Malmo Nighthawks organization have publicly released statements such as "we do whatever we want",  and the icing on the cake is responding "I could really give a shit dude lol"  to a fan questioning the integrity of the decision.  The attitude that shines through tells a story that will almost certainly have no happy ending. The Malmo Nighthawks are here to ruin your good time, and not in a fun and kinda cool way. They are here to ruin your fun by disrespecting the traditions and making anyone watching feel as uncomfortable as possible.

 

Where do we go from here? That is a question a lot of people are thinking about right now. When something has been done for so long, and then someone goes and does something totally different, it makes you think: what else are these people capable of doing? Commentators online have speculated that a potential next move Malmo Nighthawks are thinking about running with is introducing two pucks to make games more exciting.  Another one could be making it legal to hit the referees. Both comments received a like from what looked like the official Malmo Nighthawks X account, but later it was discovered the like did not come from the official X account but from a fake account.

 

VHL, as a league, has to be monitoring closely what is going on in Malmo. It remains to be seen what kind of impact Sparks being named as the captain will have on the ice as Malmo start their regular season today with an away game against Moscow.

Article Review:  I love this article.  It is fun, yet sincere.  The use of random real life examples of historical norms that many believe should never be questioned provides a great backdrop to the questioning of a goalie as captain.  Adding a little toilet humor (urinal) into the mix drags this media spot tote lowest levels making it awesome in doing it.  Great job, great article.  Keep up the great work.
