The Americans fell to the Wolves in a reverse sweep in a hardfought series which could have gone either way. Four out of the five contests were a one goal affair and to New York's detriment they lost three of those close encounters. But as the French say: 'Reculer pour mieux sauter' and the Empire State franchise is very well equipped for just that, as their roster is set up at the moment that only one, maximum two players are falling prey to old age at once. With Chris Reynolds Jr. and Tommy Shelby pencilled in to have their debut in the coming season to replace retiring forward Keon Jeannot, that should give them more depth up front, something they struggled in the S94 regular season.

It is evident that New York is doing all they can to bring back the cup to the east coast metropolis, as it has been way too long since the last cup celebrations back in S53. And while the names of Unassisted, Shankly, Ravenwing and Maxwell are household names among Americans' die hards, a whole generation has come and gone, and never saw a cup winning New York team. No blue-white-red clad Captain hoisting the cup. And by jove it is too long since any New York team in any sport has won anything.

There are minuscule question marks behind TDL acquisition Jarkko Laakkonen and Captain Jasper Davis's expiring contracts, the defence and netminding have all contracts valid for at least S95. Furthermore, the Americans still have their first round pick in an admittedly rather anemic draft class. At 7th overall there are viable options for skaters in this vintage, David Pastanap, Alphonse Desjardins, Konstyantyn Shevchenko and SamSayz I-Smell seem like viable candidates to wear the red-white and blue in the not-so-far future.

While Janser had an offensive career-year in the regular season as well as the post-season, he was still disappointed by the close loss in the wild card series. He was not available for an interview, but announced that he will participate in the ProAm Tournament and would answer the call of Team Europe for the coming World Cup, if he happens to be nominated for the roster. We are confident that he will play with fire in his belly to wipe the premature season end from the collective memory of the Big Apple.

The Swiss defender also mentioned that as in every year he will go back to Switzerland to do his annual military service, even though he would be exempted on account of living abroad. He certainly is a character. Where others wind down on a sunny beach or improve their golf handicap, the not-so gentle Giant chooses the Swiss mountains and the gun range instead, teaching a fresh crop of new recruits how to safely navigate in the high alpine environment which covers so much of his home country.

Here are the final stats for the Swiss defender prodigy:

Regular season: 72gp, 14g, 74a, 88pts, +7, 193 PIM, 240 hits, 143sb, 1gwg, 7ppg, 4 first star awards, 3-1-3 fighting record

Wild card series: 5gp, 4g, 2a, 6pts, +0, 15 PIM, 12 hits, 6sb, 0 gwg, 4ppg, 1 first star award, 0-0-1 fighting record
