This season in the VHLM featured a number of incredible individual performances which we'll highlight tonight, so without further ado, let's begin our awards show with the team awards. --<>-- Edited August 4 by LucyXpher Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/150474-vsn-presents-s94-vhlm-awards/#findComment-1035426 Share on other sites
LucyXpher 1,572
The Prime Minister's Cup As the team with the best regular season record in Season 94, the Halifax 21st are the recipients of the Prime Minister's Cup. From the beginning of the season to it's conclusion, Halifax was the team to beat in the VHLM, pacing the field with 58 wins in 72 games, falling only 9 times in regulation and 5 times in overtime or shootout. In total, they racked up 121 points which is the 2nd best season in their team's history and accumulated a ridiculous +150 goal differential through 72 games-- +38 better than the next team. Congratulations to the S94 Prime Minister's Cup Champions, the Halifax 21st! --<>-- Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/150474-vsn-presents-s94-vhlm-awards/#findComment-1035427 Share on other sites
LucyXpher 1,572
The Founder's Cup Coming off a Founder's Cup winning Season 93, hopes were high that the Saskatoon Wild might be able to repeat as league champions, though it was far from a foregone conclusion. After a slower start to their S94 campaign, the Wild trailed Halifax, Miami, and Mexico in the standings for much of the season before leapfrogging Mexico at the end to claim top spot in the Western Conference. Relaying this momentum into a playoff run, Saskatoon rolled through the first two rounds and made light work of the Halifax 21st in 6 games to claim their second consecutive Founder's Cup! To win once is a huge accomplishment in the VHLM and to win consecutively is a far rarer feat. Congratulations to everyone on the Saskatoon Wild and especially GM @dadam who now has two Founder's Cups in two seasons as a VHLM GM! --<>-- Dadam30 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/150474-vsn-presents-s94-vhlm-awards/#findComment-1035428 Share on other sites
LucyXpher 1,572
And now we'll move on to the individual awards for Season 94, beginning with our Playoff MVP. The Skylar Rift Trophy Awarded to the player deemed to be the VHLM's most valuable player in the playoffs "This award was renamed from the Esposito Trophy to the Skylar Rift Trophy in S42. Rift epitomised the modern VHL by winning two playoff MVPs, in the inaugural season of VHLM expansion franchise Yukon Rush and leading the expansion Quebec City Meute to their first Continental Cup. In addition to his player achievements, Rift's role as VHLM GM and vocal member of the VHL Board of Governors had significant impact on the VHLM" - VHLM Awards Page Here are the nominees: @Tuchy Austin Goulet III (SSK) - 12-3-1, .918 SV%, 2.40 GAA, 0 SO The backbone of the Saskatoon Team, Goulet III put up incredible numbers and was consistently solid all the way through the playoffs, even against the league's other top teams! @Dynamicmlb_42 Jacob Longstreet (SSK) - 11 G, 14 A, 25 P, +15, 14 PIM, 41 HIT, 6 SB A consistent scoring threat for the Wild, Longstreet led the playoffs in goals and points and was an impressive +15 through 16 games! @Captain nugget Captain Nugget Jr (SSK) - 11 G, 14 A, 25 P, +8, 19 PIM, 44 HIT, 17 SB Tied for the playoff lead in points with his teammate Longstreet, Nugget Jr. also contributed 17 blocked shots to compliment his impressive scoring touch! @ethanjaeda Robin Sierra (HFX) - 9 G, 9 A, 18 P, +8, 16 PIM, 36 HIT, 4 SB The top scorer on the runner up 21st, Sierra was Halifax's top scorer all season long and continued his offensive dominance in the playoffs as the 21st came up just short of their first Founder's Cup. And the winner is... Spoiler @Tuchy Austin Goulet III! LucyXpher 1,572
The Alexander Chershenko Trophy Awarded to the player who leads the VHLM in goals during the regular season "This award was renamed from the Hull Trophy to the Alexander Chershenko Trophy in S42 to honour the career of VHL Hall of Famer Alexander Chershenko. Though trophyless in a respectable VHLM career, Chershenko is one of two three-time winners of this award in the VHL. In addition to this, Chershenko was honoured for his contributions to enhancing the VHLM experience while VHL commissioner." - VHLM Awards Page The winner of the Chershenko Trophy this season separated himself from the competition at about the midway point of the season and never looked back. With 65 goals in 72 games, our winner scored 7 more goals than the next highest player and took an incredible 490 shots, converting at 13.27% on the season. One of only 3 players to cross the 50 goal threshold this season, our winner was truly the class of the goal scoring field. Spoiler Congratulations to the S94 Alexander Chershenko Trophy winner, @Dynamicmlb_42 Jacob Longstreet! LucyXpher 1,572
The Vladimir Boomchenko Trophy Awarded to the player who leads the VHLM in assists at the end of the regular season "This award was renamed from the Oates Trophy to the Vladimir Boomchenko Trophy in S42. Boomchenko won this award in S25 and mirrored the achievement in S29 in the VHL. A vocal member of the Riga Reign, Calgary Wranglers, and Cologne Express, Boomchenko also contributed, in a co-GM capacity or as a volunteer, to many VHLM teams and locker rooms, most notably the Yukon Rush and Saskatoon Wild." - VHLM Awards Page While Longstreet was the league's leader in goals scored, he doesn't accomplish this feat alone and the league's top collector of assists played on his line all season long. As Longstreet's regular wingman the S94 Boomchenko Trophy winner piled up a staggering 75 assists through 72 games. While he was one of 5 players to break the 70 assist plateau, our winner led the way in this category for a good portion of the season and was a huge part of his team's top line. LucyXpher 1,572
The Ethan Osborne Trophy Awarded to the player who leads the VHLM in points at the end of the regular season "This award was renamed from the Dionne Trophy to the Ethan Osborne Trophy in S42 to honour the VHL Hall of Fame career of Ethan Osborne. VHLM MVP and top scorer in S30, he repeated the feat in the VHL in S36, in between founding and managing one of the VHLM's most successful franchises: the Bratislava Watchmen." - VHLM Awards Page When you score 65 goals and add 68 assists, it's hard for anyone to compete for the league's top point scoring honors. This season's Osborne Trophy winner scored 133 points in 72 games-- nearly 2 points per game-- and scored 16 more than the next highest scorer in the league. As the focal point of a dynamic duo for the Saskatoon Wild this season, our winner helped carry his team offensively throughout the regular season and into a dominant playoff run that saw him win a second consecutive Founder's Cup. Spoiler Congratulations to the S94 Ethan Osborne Trophy winner, @Dynamicmlb_42 Jacob Longstreet! LucyXpher 1,572
The Benoit Devereux Trophy Awarded to the player deemed to be the top goalie in the VHLM "This award was renamed from the Sawchuk Trophy to the Benoit Devereux Trophy in S42 to honour the illustrious career of VHL Hall of Famer Benoit Devereux. The HC Davos Dynamo legend won this trophy in a spectacular S9 campaign with Toledo before becoming the first three-time top goalie in the VHL. He would have been a worthy name for that award if it wasn't for a younger generation to follow and so is at last honoured in this way." - VHLM Awards Page Here are the nominees: @Tuchy Austin Goulet III (SSK)-50-18-2, .914 SV%, 2.17 GAA, 9 SO Before claiming playoff MVP honors, Goulet III backstopped the wild to a successful regular season and was tied with the best save percentage in the league at .914 and had the 2nd most shutouts with an impressive 9! @HockeyFan4Life Connor Hellebuyck (MEX)-34-11-7, .913 SV%, 2.09 GAA, 2 SO As the last line of defense on a very stingy Mexico City team, Hellebuyck put together a great winning record and a more than respectable save percentage which ranked 2nd in the league. @dylanjj37 Jeffrey Pines Jr (MIA)-32-10-6, .907 SV%, 2.09 GAA, 3 SO As his team's starting goaltender, Pines Jr. was rock solid for the Miami Marauder's who finished the season in 2nd place with 108 points. With Hellebuyck, Pines Jr. tied for the 2nd lowest GAA in the league this season at 2.09. @Webberj Jon Webber III (HFX) - 50-7-4, .914 SV%, 1.72 GAA, 11 SO In his second season with the 21st, Jon Webber III led the league in practically all goaltending stats with a league best .914 SV%, an incredibly low 1.52 GAA, 11 shutouts, and 50 wins. It was a dominant season for Webber III who also set a Halifax franchise record this season with his 91st career win. Note: Statistical rankings based on goalies who played 30 games or more. LucyXpher 1,572
The Ryan Sullivan Trophy Awarded to the player deemed to be the top defenseman in the VHLM "This award was renamed from the Bourque Trophy to the Ryan Sullivan Trophy in S42. One of the greatest VHL defencemen of all-time, a three-time recipient of the Sterling Labatte Trophy, Sullivan proved his mettle in the VHLM in S28. In addition to an illustrious career, Sullivan's case was strengthened by his victorious role as Kolari Panthers GM and later becoming VHLM" - VHLM Award Page Here are the nominees: @AW13 Donald Carlson (MIS) - 25 G, 70 A, 95 P, +30, 86 PIM, 177 HIT, 129 SB Though he was 2nd in both goals and assists by a defenseman, Carlson was 1st in total points. An offensive threat from the blueline, Carlson was an electric player for the Mississauga Hounds after his move from Philadelphia. Carlson had 59 points with Mississauga in 35 games compared to his 36 in 38 games with Philly. @KRZY Toby Cook (MIA) - 12 G, 49 A, 61 P, +41, 90 PIM, 234 HIT, 128 SB While not the top point-getter, Cook racked up the 2nd most hits by a defenseman with 234 and led all of our nominees in the +/- category as a +41 on the 2nd overall Miami Marauders. @Greasy Gary LaClapbomb Hitstick IV (HOU) - 18 G, 51 A, 69 P, +39, 127 PIM, 251 HIT, 103 SB LaClapbomb Hitstick IV-- emphasis on the hitstick-- was the top hitter in the league with 251 and spent by far the most time in the box with 127 penalty minutes. When he was on the ice, however, he racked up 69 points and was a solid +39 on the Houston Bulls. @CaptainSB Samsayz I-Smell (MEX) - 14 G, 72 A, 86 P, +27, 78 PIM, 131 HIT, 151 SB Regardless of what Sam says, I-Smell was breathing rarified air this season with 86 points (3rd most by a defenseman) and 151 blocked shots (2nd most). Playing 29.94 minutes per game, Samsayz was a workhorse on the Mexico blueline this season and a big part of their incredible defensive play. @Aimee Ahsoka Tano (HOU) - 30 G, 62 A, 92 P, +17, 36 PIM, 111 HIT, 107 SB With 92 points, Tano came up just shy of the defensive scoring lead, but had a fantastic season nonetheless, even despite a midseason trade from San Diego to Houston. Unlike Carlson whose scoring improved significantly with his new team, Tano's production really fell off after the trade to Houston as she had 64 points in 44 games with San Diego, but only 28 points in 26 games with Houston. If not for the trade, she may well have been the league's top defensive scorer this season. And the winner is... Spoiler @AW13 Donald Carlson! Votes: Carlson 5 / Cook 1 / I-Smell 1 / Tano 0 / Hitstick IV 0 --<>-- Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/150474-vsn-presents-s94-vhlm-awards/#findComment-1035434 Share on other sites
LucyXpher 1,572
The Mat Bentz Trophy Awarded to the player deemed to be the best two-way forward in the VHLM "This award was renamed from the Yzerman Trophy to the Matt Bentz Trophy in S42 to honour the VHLM contributions of Matt Bentz. Well-known for a Hall of Fame VHL career as a potent goal-scorer and long-time Calgary Wranglers GM, Bentz's path to the VHL pinnacle started with an Yzerman Trophy in S8. He repaid the VHLM in full by serving as VHLM commissioner and arguably pioneering the modern interpretation of the role" - VHLM Awards Page Here are the nominees: @Eb14 Clapbomb Bardownski III (MIS) - 39 G, 73 A, 112 P, +39, 59 PIM, 153 HIT, 95 SB Another Clapbomb-- with emphasis on bar down this time-- 112 points for a two way forward is an impressive mark as he ranked 5th in the league in total points while also collecting the most shots blocked by any forward with 95. @barryst Jerry Box (SSK) - 42 G, 75 A, 117 P, +54, 26 PIM, 161 HIT, 39 SB Calling him the Robin to Longstreet's Batman might not be the perfect analogy as Jerry Box has his own very particular set of skills evidenced by his 75 assists and 42 goals. Combine that with 161 hits and it's easy to see the completeness of Box's game both offensively and defensively. It's my opinion that Longstreet owes Box a beer... @Oddpurplefly Dorji Khan (HFX) - 35 G, 48 A, 83 P, +63, 71 PIM, 184 HIT, 11 SB The Mongolian Stallion, as he's know in Halifax, or just KHAAAN! This monster of a forward loves to hit and collected the 3rd most by any forward with 184. Though he may not have scored as much as some of the other nominees, his high +/- at +63 speaks volumes about his two-way ability and he was a big part of Halifax's defensive dominance. @Captain nugget Captain Nugget Jr (SSK) - 39 G, 56 A, 96 P, +35, 55 PIM, 201 HIT, 52 SB With the most hits by any forward in the VHLM this season at 201, Nugget Jr. was collecting bodies as well as points. With 39 goals and 56 assists for the Saskatoon Wild, he was a hugely important depth piece on the eventual Founder's Cup champs and could be relied upon in all situations. And the winner is... Spoiler @Eb14 Clapbomb Bardownski III! LucyXpher 1,572
The Jack Reilly Trophy Awarded to the general manager deemed to be the best in the VHLM "This award was renamed from the Ken Holland Trophy to the Jack Reilly Trophy in S42 to honour the VHLM managing career of later HC Davos Dynamo GM Jack Reilly. Reilly was GM of the Saskatoon Wild for 11 seasons from S18 to S28, winning three Founder's Cups and a record four Top GM awards" - VHLM Awards Page Here are the nominees: @AJW Houston Bulls 46-25-1 - 93 points A candidate worthy of winning this award every season, AJ Williams kept doing AJ things in S94-- taking a post-draft Bulls team with a lot of holes and turning them into a contender. What's his secret, you ask? Mainly vibes... and a lot of hard work! AJ is one of the best and will be greatly missed next season as he moves on from his role as Houston GM. @Dadam30 Saskatoon Wild 52-18-2 - 106 points Two seasons as a GM in the VHLM and two Founder's Cups. That's twice as many Founder's Cups as Halifax and Houston have in their combined history of 62 seasons! @Dadam30 has done an incredible job of building the perfect roster to win these past couple of seasons and deserves the recognition of this nomination once again after winning this award last season. @JCarson Mexico City Kings - 48-16-8 - 104 points Taking at team from 57 points to 104 in one season is no easy feat, but that's what J Carson did with the Mexico City Kings from S93-S94. He's also demonstrated great care and investment in bringing up and encouraging the next generation of players through the VHLM and to do that while also having a successful season is definitely worthy of a nomination for this award. @LucyXpher Halifax 21st - 58-9-5 - 121 points The average draft position of Halifax's six returning players in S94 was 44th overall-- the equivalent of six mid 5th round picks. The five skaters from that group combined for 447 points this season and the 6th player is Benoit Devereux Trophy winning goaltender Jon Webber III. Drafting and development have been a big focus for us in Halifax and a couple of trades for quality players helped push the team to the top of the league in the regular season. But I don't like hyping myself so let's move on... @Ricer13 Miami Marauders - 50-14-8 - 108 points Like J Carson in Mexico, Kris Rice helped turn the Marauders around from 2nd last in the league with 46 points in S93 to 2nd overall in S94 with 108 points. It was a remarkable turnaround for Miami and owed in large part to Rice's savvy management skills as he drafted a competitive team and has done an excellent job of getting the most out of his players this past season. And the winner is... Spoiler @LucyXpher Halifax 21st. LucyXpher 1,572
The Mitch Higgins Trophy Awarded to the player deemed the VHLM's most valuable player during the regular season "This award was renamed from the Sakic Trophy to the Mitch Higgins Trophy in S42. Higgins won the award as part of a legendary Ottawa Ice Dogs team in S23 before leading a notable VHL career and securing at various points the positions of Oslo Storm GM, VHLM commissioner, Helsinki Titans GM, and VHL commissioner" - VHLM Awards Page Here are the nominees: @CaptainSB Samsayz I-Smell (D, MEX) - 14 G, 72 A, 86 P, +27, 78 PIM, 131 HIT, 151 SB The top defenseman on his team all season-- one of the best defensive teams in the VHLM-- I-Smell put together a fantastic S94 as one of the league's top defensemen and regardless of what Sam says, the smell is certainly not enough of turn-off to keep him out of any lineup. I think he needs a cologne sponsorship... Also, why didn't Cologne draft him in the E? This would have solved everything, smh... @Dynamicmlb_42 Jacob Longstreet (C, SSK) - 65 G, 68 A, 133 P, +50, 57 PIM, 160 HIT, 44 SB He's already taking home two individual awards to go along with the Founder's Cup, but for the man who has it all, why not one more? Longstreet was the class of the VHLM this season offensively and his skills proved effective come playoffs as well-- an outstanding season for Longstreet from start to finish! @ethanjaeda Robin Sierra (C, HFX) - 58 G, 55 A, 113 P, +67, 50 PIM, 160 HIT, 19 SB As the top scorer on the top regular season team, Sierra kept pace with Longstreet and Co. for quite a while this season before trailing off towards the end. Some of that might have to do with the depth pieces Halifax added as the season progressed which cut into Sierra's point share. Regardless, for a player who went undrafted in a 7 round S93 draft, this is nothing but a success story! @Aimee Ahsoka Tano (D, HOU) - 30 G, 62 A, 92 P, +17, 36 PIM, 111 HIT, 107 SB An incredible two-way defender and likely the most valuable player on San Diego while she played there, the trade to Houston hurt her point production a little bit, but not enough to keep her name out of this discussion. Tano is one of those players every team wishes they had and playing the important defensive position makes her all the more valuable. @Webberj Jon Webber III (G, HFX) - 50-7-4, .914 SV%, 1.72 GAA, 11 SO Another success story out of Halifax, Webber III was the league's top goaltender this season and was a huge part of Halifax's league low 127 GA and the backbone of a +150 goal differential. It was a dominant performance by Webber III in the Halifax net this season and there's a strong case to be made for him as their most important player. And the winner is... As usual, if I've forgotten anything or anyone, please yell at me and I'll fix it as soon as I can. In the meantime, it's the usual offseason ritual for me-- I hate that this is becoming a habit... --<>-- Pifferfish and Oddpurplefly 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/150474-vsn-presents-s94-vhlm-awards/#findComment-1035438 Share on other sites

Hide contents @LucyXpher Halifax 21st. --<>-- seems biased Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/150474-vsn-presents-s94-vhlm-awards/#findComment-1035526 Share on other sites
