Our New York correspondent Dick Hammer was able to squeeze in an interview with the Swiss defender after the final game of the regular season. Here it is for your reading pleasure.

Dick Hammer (DH): 'Callum, first of all congratulations to the direct playoff qualification.'

Callum Gary Yannick Janser (CGY): 'Thanks, Dick. It is the first time during my tenure that we make the post-season without taking the scenic route of the WC series.'

DH: 'The season was nerve-wrecking for us NYA fans, as our team was for the most part a brink playoff team, despite having one of the best defences in the league. The team only snagged the third place in the dying minutes of the season, so to speak.'

CGY: 'That is true and I assure you we as a team would have liked it differently.'

DH: 'What do you think was the reason for this nailbiter of a season?'

CGY: 'Well, there are a series of factors which contributed to this roller coaster of emotion. Toby, Jeb and I play a very physical game, which often helped on the defensive side of the game and made the other teams pay dearly for entering our zone. However, playing on the limit will inevitably draw penalties. The three of us are in the top ten of the heaviest hitters in the league, with only Tommy 'Gun' Sleeves and Tzesar beating Kadachi in hit-count. As is almost a New York trade mark by now, we at times struggled offensively and just could not net enough goals to win tight games. I also think that the NA conference was more competitive this year than the European one. Yonder, the chaff was separated from the wheat pretty early in the season.'

DH: 'Do you think that the stats of the likes of Moscow could stat-pad on non competitive teams and are overrated.'

CGY: 'No, I do not think that. Especially the Menace is an exceptionally well managed team for some time already. Maybe they would have lost some more games if the teams in Europe were a bit more balanced this season, but there is no doubt in my mind that the Russians would float on top regardless.'

DH: 'Cal, you set new personal records in goal scored, game winners and shots blocked. Have we seen the best version of you yet?'

CGY: 'My opinion is that all the personal merits are for naught if it is not crowned by team success. I am happy that I was able to improve in some areas, as it helps the team. But that is about it. I never hid that I want to bring the cup back to the Big Apple and this is more true today than it was before. It certainly won't be easy and we have to play at our best to achieve this ambitious goal. I believe in this group, though and think we have a fighting chance, especially after acquiring Moritz Stauffer and his cup winning merits at the trade dead line.'

DH: 'Despite being a stay at home defender, you had the most apples in your team. Is that surprising to you?'

CGY: 'I am okay with being around the point per game mark when it comes to offensive production. It is not my priority, but of course I take what opportunity I get to score points. The lads were already joking that if the trapezoid behind the net is 'Wayne's office' than the zone at the offensive blue line is 'Cal's garage'.'

DH: 'Okay that is about it from my side and good luck in the playoffs.'

CGY: 'Thanks and take care.'

Here are Callum's stats for the regular season:

72gp, 16g, 67a, 83pts, +48, 223 PIM, 256 hits, 155sb, 6gwg, 6ppg, 3 First Star awards and a 0-1-4 fighting record.
