[S98] Recruitment Update #2

VHL Community,

 

It's an exciting time for all. Not only are we about to celebrate the VHL for everything it has been to us all over 100 seasons, but we're also about to celebrate all of you for what you've helped it become. Everyone is so vital to this community. You all add to it. This recruitment spurt so far has been a lot of work, but a lot of fun. So far we've seen lots of current member recreates, some old faces returning and some new members joining the Victory Hockey League. 

 

We've been hard at work making our rounds with affiliates and our social media outlets and wanted to share some of our work for your awareness. There are absolutely no rewards for interaction with these posts - we want to be clear about that. We simply want to bring awareness to the efforts of the team, and if you're active in these communities or spaces and want to answer anyone's questions, it'd be much appreciated.

Let's see how Wednesday goes with the YouTube drive. So many members have stepped up for Recruitment over the last X amount of months. It took some time and there was moments I had my doubts, but the league steps up when you step up.

 

We went from basically being just myself doing everything, to having a 3 man official team. I know, nothing crazy, but it's a thankless job and these guys have improved certain aspects of the recruitment team in ways I couldn't have done. Huge shoutout to @Ricer13 and @Big_Dyl. Yesterday I was probably on for about... 8-10 hours doing things relevant to the role. Last week I had a few of those days, especially leading up to the weekend preparing, communicating with creators - as well as rescheduling for the week of the 14th to 7th, etc. Talking to affiliates. Drafting up all the posts. You know name it. On top of the 3 man crew, we have "unofficial/unpaid" members that have actively wanted to join and participate in the recruitment. That could be graphic members. We have a bunch now. @Triller has done some crazy work behind the scenes and honestly, what they have planned for S100 is just crazy cool. THIS HERE was something they did in the past for us! @TenIQ recently joined and is already a beast for us, too. You can see some of their work HERE! They're not expected to do weekly tasks for us, but they pitch in when they can somewhat as contractors and wow, what a difference they make. Then, we kind of brought in a Board of Governors (BOG) for Recruitment and went with the unique and creative name of "Board of Recruitment" for them. It consists of some BOG members for transparency into the BOG. Then, just hand picked members (some reached out with interest in helping, too) based off discussions and interactions in the community and they really just have done amazing work. Whether it's @sadie contributing like crazy almost everywhere and welcoming new members, @Moon helping steer the ship, @Gaikoku-hito double dipping on the BOG/BOR and adding to discussions, or @Spartan basically being my official proof reader and a great advisor to the team who has helped me out huge these last few days/weeks from TRULY burning out. 

 

It's crazy to think of where the team, structures, organization and systems were when I first took the role of Recruitment Head. It was REALLY bad. Especially the organization, google sheets, documents and everything. We're not perfect. There's lots of ways we can improve and we certainly will. I might have planted the seed, but similar to my role as Seattle GM, without the team I've/we've built behind us, zilch, nada, nothing. I'd be more burnt out than I already am. I feel like Santa on Christmas. Looking forward to Boxing Day so I can kick my feet up for a week before hopping back into the deep end for next seasons preps.

Not surprised there's no post on r/wildhockey. Even though I haven't used Reddit for about 2 years, I'm still salty about wildhockey admins giving me a permaban and not being assed to explain why upon my inquiry lol

Just wanted to reach out with a hearty thank you to all the recruiters for the tireless work they perform. Recruiting can often be a thankless task, but when you stop to think about it, it really is the lifeblood of any community league. With that in mind, 100 seasons is an epic accomplishment, so THANK YOU to all those who donated precious time and effort to make it all possible!

 

The VHL reminds me of an interwoven tapestry, where newcomers like me get to enjoy all it has become, thanks to the connections the veterans have painstakingly put in place. So on behalf of all the newbies, cheers to you!!

I also want so say a huge Thank you to the recruitment team as the amount of work that they have put in over the past few months have been amazing!! @Banackock keeping the ship floating long enough to get the support that he required. @Ricer13 jumping in with two feet running when asked!! @Big_Dyl joining hitting everything out of the park. And all the others that have supported the group @Triller@TenIQ@sadie@Moon@Spartan @Mysterious_Fish@Pifferfish.

 

I know I am excited to see what happens with S100 and this current recruitment drive as a ton of hard work has been done behind the scenes!! Congrats on all the hard work done and I hope to see even more members joining the league soon.

 

21 returning members and 6 new members is by far the largest recruitment drive we have had in the past few season and recruitment teams still has more to come this week.

 

 

Also thanks for the tag but I have barely done anything other then a few comment here or there as waking up to 50+ pings by the recruitment team always force me to feel like I should be doing more!! LOL!! I do read most of what is going on and will continue add anything that I can!!
