Agent of the Freedom

The playoffs have started and in approximately two weeks we will have new Founder's Cup and Continental Cup champions. After that the off-season officially kicks off and the most exciting part of the VHL season gets underway. This season it looks like there could be a few players whose contracts will be running out. There is still plenty of time for them to re-sign with their current hockey clubs, but for the sake of this article we will pretend they all make it to free agent day. Here is a break down of a few of the players will are expected to join the freedom fighters and become agents of the freedom.

C - Bennett Wahl - 67 Points

Bennett Wahl isn't a fresh face when it comes to hitting free agency. He signed with Cologne last off-season and has played a second line center role on the team in Season 41. He managed to score 27 goals and add 40 assists for a total of 67 points. He signed a one year deal worth three million dollars with Cologne and it looks like he is about to hit free agency again with three seasons left before retirement. He could possibly look for a long term deal to ensure himself a good contract, or he could continue to sign short term one season contracts. He still has enough seasons left to sign with an up and coming team, but will likely stick to contenders.

LW - James Faraday - 73 Points

Coming off his entry level contract, this will be the first time that James Faraday is eligible to hit free agency as an UFA. The native of Massachusetts has played two seasons for the Helsinki Titans and has scored 123 points in 144 games. The former first overall draft selection has been developing slowly after spending an extra season in the minors, he hasn't lived up to the high expectations yet. With that said, Faraday is still a young player who many teams would covet if he did hit free agency. Faraday has some connections throughout the league including two fellow Massachusetts natives that he played college hockey with. That leads us to believe that he could sign to play with Jerrick Poole of the Toronto Legion or with Thomas O'Malley of the Cologne Express.

C - Devin Sundberg - 94 Points

The Toronto Legion have missed the playoffs for Season 41, just when Devin Sundberg's contract has come to a conclusion. Like Faraday, this will be the first time that Sundberg is eligible to become a UFA and may exercise his right to join a top contender after missing the playoffs in Toronto. Sundberg played top line minutes for the Legion this season scoring 50 goals and adding 44 assists for 94 points. After beefing up his resume with a fifty goal season he could easily demand a pay raise with any team that has interest in signing him. It is a high possibility that he stays with Toronto after seeing some personal success and hoping to build off that with teammate Sachimo Zoidberg. If his agent has anything to say though, Sundberg could end up playing on the west coast in Seattle.
