DollarAndADream 3,356
The VHL has just reached the 30th game of Season 42, and with that have been some surprises along the way. One of those surprises were the Seattle Bears who were ahead of the New York Americans for some time, although now New York has pulled ahead. One team that many didn't think were going to do this well at this point are the Quebec City Meute. The Meute currently sit at 24-5-1, which is good for first in the league and 10 points above the rising Americans. The Americans are riding a 4-game winning streak which is bringing them closer to Quebec, but Quebec just recently had an amazing span of games themselves. They won 11 in a row before falling in OT to the Wranglers 6-5 in a high scoring affair with some lackluster play by the goaltenders. They got back to things right away the very next game though, defeating Toronto 4-0. Some may come to question their scheduling this season, where the beginning stretch seems to be a lot more easier than the next half. This is something that Quebec City has been capitalizing on while they have the chance, and everyone looks to be stepping up their game to do so. With all this being said, we will now look at the main points of production on the current top-seeded team at this point of the season. ------------------------------- Captain Aksel Thomassen ------------------------------- Aksel Thomassen: Coming to nobody's surprise besides the doubters, center Aksel Thomassen has continued his offensive ways by carrying them over from last season. He currently sits 1st in the VHL in points in his first 30 games. He's also 3rd in goals, 1st in assists, 7th in shots and shot percent, 1st in face offs, 2nd in plus/minus and one of the best in many other categories. Aksel has quickly grown into one of the most dynamic two-way forwards in the VHL and is showing that last season wasn't just luck between himself and Bruno Wolf with himself having 65 points. Bruno Wolf: With his buddy Thomassen playing so well, it is easy to guess on the production of Bruno Wolf. Just like the season prior to this one, Bruno has been on fire and has been scoring on all cylinders. He has 29 goals in 30 games, which is basically a goal per game. Anyone could say he is the best goal scorer in the league as he was last year, and it looks as if the Aksel/Bruno duo will not slow down. It's not as if he's all offense either. Wolf already has 152 hits in 30 games, good for 2nd in the VHL and is good for a whopping 5 hits per game. Bruno Wolf can be compared to the NHL's Alex Ovechkin, with his physicality and goal scoring prowess. The rest of the VHL can only hope that he slows down. ---------------------- Ovie-like Bruno Wolf ---------------------- Travis Boychuk: Coming over to the Meute, it was always a question of what kind of production we would get from Boychuk. In the latter half of last season and throughout this one so far, Quebec has gotten exactly what they wanted from him. He currently has 38 points with 21 goals in 30 games, which is great for a 2nd line centerman. Boychuk brings his team great depth and as long as he can keep up his pace, the Meute shouldn't have to worry about when their top line takes a game off. It almost looks as if the first line takes the night off when the second line is scoring, and vice versa. Travis already has 109 hits himself, which is already 30 more than he had the entire Season 41. He has been clicking with newly acquired Milos Denis on the second line as well as rookie Ryan Cattrall, and is only 2 points out of the top 10 players league-wide. Milos Denis: Winger Milos has been just as good as the Meute were expecting when they signed him as a free agent. He has been producing quite well and is doing just as well as his line mate Travis Boychuk. Denis has had a pass-first mentality when playing alongside veteran Boychuk and it is no wonder that the two have been playing awesome together. If this duo can perform consistently then the team is truly something to be afraid of, while already having the Wolf/Thomassen combination. Milos Denis has 37 points, only one behind Boychuk. --------------------------- Milos Denis --------------------------- Brock Waldron: Waldron has been more of a brick wall than Brick Wahl so far, and is having one of the best seasons of his career. Currently sitting at .926 save percentage and a 1.97 goals-against-average, those are both good for a VHL best. He is 24-4-0 and the Meute are looking to ride that stellar play for the whole season if he can keep it up. Consistency has always been the key to Brock's game, and if he can play well for the rest of the season than Quebec will remain the biggest threat in the VHL. Shout out to my homies Jakobssen, Holmes, Matthews, Yamazaki, and Stark. I'd write more but I'm lazy and this is already over 800 words.
