scoop 3,432
Vikings drop two to Calgary early in season Returning as Cup favorites, the Stockholm Vikings have high expectations for the season. Led by last season's MVP, Tom Slaughter, the Vikings boast a potent offense. With Lord Karnage joining hom on the first line and Jody 3 Moons leading the way on the second, Stockholm is leading the league in goals through seven games. This means very little, however, as it's early, and they have had a relatively easy schedule thus far. Sitting tied for first in Europe with ten points, the Vikings have played and lost two games to the Calgary Wranglers. Following a seven-goal outburst against Helsinki in their first game of the season, the Vikings put 30 shots on net against the Wranglers. Sophomore goalie Hans Wingate was a wall for the Wranglers, stopping 29 shots, making Jackson Miller's two third period goals enough for the win. Stockholm's only goal came on the power play by Karnage. The Vikings were playing the game without their top defenseman, Lloyd Light, who was ejected 57 seconds into the game for checking from behind. Light, the team captain, is a very solid player on both ends of the ice, and his absence from the game no doubt had an impact. That the Vikings were still able to outshoot the Wranglers by nine is a good sign for them, but Wingate's domination over them has to be a concern. Hans Wingate has stepped up for the Wranglers this season. The second meeting between the two teams resulted in another one-goal win for the Wranglers. Light kept himself in the game this time, but Calgary outshot Stockholm 27-24. The Vikings struck first again with a pair of Tom Slaughter goals in the second period. The second was responded to within seconds by Marcus Hurley, and the Wranglers added two more in the third to take the win. It was Miller who scored another power play game winner late in the period. Wingate did not need to perform quite as well as in their first meeting, but he had a solid outing. The Wranglers are the only team to beat the Vikings thus far, Stockholm has yet to play another top tier team. The Wranglers, meanwhile, have also added wins against Quebec and Davos, two teams in serious competition for the Continental Cup. Wingate was a key factor in both victories, saving 33 of 35 shots against the Meute and pitching a 23-save shutout against the Dynamo. The Wranglers only loss came against the Toronto Legion, who still have a solid roster but lack a goalie. Both Stockholm and Calgary have cap space and are expected to make trades later in the season to acquire more talent. Those Legion who beat the Wranglers could be dispersed between these two teams, and the Seattle Bears also have some players who could be a boon for a competing team. Tom Slaughter looks to bring the Cup to Stockholm in his final season. For the Vikings, Slaughter is currently tied for the league lead in goals at eight. Karnage has seven, giving him one per game, while 3 Moons is just one behind at six. These three players account for nearly 90% of the Vikings goals. Karnage and Light are among four players with eight assists to top the league. Karnage is proving to be one of the top all-around forwards in the league; he leads the league with 15 points and is fourth in hits with 34. Additionally, he and Slaughter are the only players in the league to score a point in every game this season. In net, Blake Campbell is keeping up with his rookie season, ranking third in both save percentage (0.927) and goals against average (1.70). Statistically, the Vikings, through seven games, are looking as they are expected. However, given that they've lost twice to the Wranglers and narrowly defeated the Bears, Stockholm will need to improve if they want to repeat as Victory Cup winners or achieve the ultimate goal of a Continental Cup. eaglesfan036 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/21700-claimedvikings-drop-two-to-calgary-early-in-season-final-66/ Share on other sites

Sixersfan594 247
Content 3/3 - Good cover-up, to be fair STHS is very random sometimes, but I think come playoff time it'll be easier to knock-out these "lesser" opponents. Grammar 2/2 - Solid! One typo and a very small change. Hom = him That the Vikings = The Vikings Appearance 1/1 - Yeah it's not ugly Final 6/6 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/21700-claimedvikings-drop-two-to-calgary-early-in-season-final-66/#findComment-239764 Share on other sites
