Just 7 short hours after free agency formally opened, Boulet Trophy candidate Christoph Klose put pen to paper and signed with his adopted hometown of Seattle and will play his final season in Bears colors. While Klose was seemingly very happy with the offer from Seattle and the decision to sign there, he did admit that free agency left him feeling disappointed.

"Honestly, it was pretty boring," Klose said in the press conference in Seattle. "I know there were a lot of free agents out there with bigger name value than me, but if you look at my track record and what I bring to the table, I expected a little bit more. I only heard from two teams in the days leading up to free agency opening. I had told [Helsinki General Manager] Draper that I'd be testing free agency but that I would potentially be interested in returning, but I didn't even hear from him. It was a little hurtful, if I'm being honest with you all."

Klose paused for a moment before finishing. "All in all, though, I am really excited to join the Bears and hopefully be the key go-to guy up front. There's a lot of young talent on the team, and for one season, I get to be something of a leader to these kids. I want to thank [Seattle General Manager] Mike for the opportunity, and at the very least it will save me a lot of travel time, now that I'll be managing and playing in the same city."

I tried to keep you in the loop but was indeed surprised at the speed of some of the FA decisions. Two of you PM'ed me about teaming up, only for me to come online and see you'd already signed somewhere, but considering my history with FA, I have zero right to whine about it. Good luck to you all.

I didn't know Helsinki was in North America?

I only was contacted by two teams, and only one had the cap space for me + others, so I signed there. VHL GMs are maybe slower than SHL GMs to contact free agents? I know I always reach out to all of my targets as soon as free agent discussions open. Perhaps that's uncommon here.
