Wow, this was one big trade both in size and reputation. Not only did this trade see twelve assets switch teams, two more than any other trade prior to or since then, but it saw two future Hall of Famers in Jarvis Baldwin and CAL G traded to the Vasteras Iron Eagles in an attempt to bring them the cup. The interesting part of this trade is when it actually took place as it took place at the Season 31 trade deadline. At that point, the Iron Eagles were already looking near certain to miss the playoffs for Season 31, meaning that the Season 32 first round selection that they gave up was guaranteed to be a top four selection. The timing of the trade also meant that CAL G would be in his final season by the point that Vasteras would be competing, while Jarvis Baldwin would be in his penultimate season. As it turned out, bringing in the two Hall of Famers did little good for the Iron Eagles as they were eliminated in the EU Semi-Finals by the Helsinki Titans, and subsequently traded Baldwin to the Calgary Wranglers for his final season in the league. Zhumbayev wound up having a productive VHL career with the Helsinki Titans and the Toronto Legion, finishing 90th in total points scored, while Weber was a productive depth player.

For the longest time, it was the VHL’s first ever trade (The one that saw the first draft pick in VHL history traded) that contained the most draft picks, but then this huge trade happened in Season 22 and it hasn’t been beaten since. Unfortunately, due to the loss of the original VHL site, there’s no longer any written context for the trade, but we can tell from the intact indexes that the trade took place at the Season 22 trade deadline, a point where both teams were pretty much confirmed as being outside of playoff contention. At the point of the trade, the Reign had the worst record in the league, however an out-of-the-blue eight game winning streak “helped” Riga finish with the third-worst record in the VHL. I’m not sure whether the trade was made with Kanaan in mind as the future selection, but he didn’t last long in Seattle as he was traded midway through Season 24, Kanaan’s rookie season in the VHL, and this appears to be his only season in the VHL. Galchenyuk lasted a season longer in the VHL, however he retired with a lower TPE count than Kanaan and with just 47 points in 149 games. In fact, the best player selected with one of the picks moved in this trade was then first-gen Rauno Pajari, who our newer members will know as Mr. Power or Devise.
