S49 was a tough season for Moscow that saw them only win 14 games on their way to a last place finish. GM Cody Black traded away many assets last season in order to stock up for tonight's draft and he had 7 out of 23 possible picks. Rebuilding is never a fun process to go through and while Black was able to trade away almost all of his players but was unable to find deals for a few of them before the trade deadline went into effect. Guntis Petenis @hedgehog337 and Leif Tresler @James soldiered through the last quarter of the season and played some tough minutes for a depleted roster and a thank you is in order for them.

Now let us meet the new Moscow Red Wolves!

Max von Hohenzollern - RW @RomanesEuntDomus

The 6'0" winger from Tübingen, Germany is expected to be a huge piece of the Wolves going forward. Hohenzollern is a fantastic skater, probably the best skater in the entire draft, his smooth stride is effortless and gets him to full speed in very little time. He could stand to pack some muscle on his 187lbs frame but he's still got average strength and superb puck handling. Max is one of the best players below the hash marks already and Moscow cannot wait to see what he brings to the team.

Apollo Skye - G @Velevra

The 2nd overall pick in the draft figures to be just as large a piece of the Red Wolves as Hohenzollern if not bigger. Every team needs confidence in their goalie and Apollo provides that in spades. Skye has a build that coaches like, standing a few inches over six feet and weighing about the 200 mark he is built for speed. When asked what his number one attribute was, several scouts responded with reactions. He can flat out get by on his ability to react to the puck, he rarely struggles with tips and passes the way a normal goalie would but his body can't always keep up to his mind. Moscow figures to have a starter who can help push for playoffs.

Robert Jelen - D @BluesBoy71

A boom or bust prospect taken at the end of the first round. Jelen is a smooth puck transition defenceman, equal parts skating and equal parts passing. His quick strides allow him to skate the puck out of danger and open the ice up for his forwards as well. Jelen has also shown a knack for good his, his skating and timing combine to allow a average sized player to level much bigger opponents. Some wonder if the Czech defender's awareness can keep up to his natural talents but GM Cody Black feels that he can motivate the young rearguard to another level.

Shaka - D @Shaka

Not much was known about the towering defender from South Africa but one of the Moscow scouts saw enough to convince the team to draft him in the 2nd round. As not much is known about Shaka all we have his reputation and he is known as a good defender who uses his reach and strength to separate players from the puck. Many eyes will be on him as Black took a risk on a player when much safer options were on the board.

Luke Matthews - D @Digg

A prototypical two way defender, Matthews is well rounded and has some untapped potential to be great. Many wonder if he will ever look as good as he did in his early days in New York but there is no denying his raw skills. He could become a top 4 defender or he could fade out into VHLM oblivion.

Hailey Cattrall - RW @Denver

An undersized winger with blazing speed and room to grow. Can Cattrall get to a level where she is playing significant minutes for the Red Wolves? GM Cody Black certainly thinks so and has expressed a high level of confidence in the player and has taken a close personal interest in her development.

Of course, make me look smrt please. :D

Review: Pretty nice draft there if the guys stay active. Getting Shaka in the 2nd is a pretty big steal regardless of any TPE difference. Always best to load up on draft picks when you need to rebuild. Since I've been here, pretty sure Moscow has been the worst/second worst team in the VHLM. Goodluck with turning it around!

  • Evans changed the title to Добро пожаловать домой [Reviewed]

Busy week with the TCBL draft and all. I'll pump out a media this week and get to rolling.
