(2-1-1)                                      (2-2-0)

The past two games in New York saw the Americans battle back to tie the series up at 2 games a piece making it a best of 3 series now. We travel back to Calgary where the Wranglers try to take the series lead again.

Game 5: Calgary Wranglers 6 New York Americans 2

Game 5 saw the Wranglers take back the lead in the series with a massive 6-2 win in front of their own fans. However despite the big win, it was the Americans who opened up the scoring just 48 seconds into the game. Lee Classified (1 G) finally got his name on the scorers card in the series with his first goal and first point. Keyvan Kljk (3 G, 4 A) had his team leading 7th point with an assist and Jukka Haikkinen (1 G, 1 A) also got his first assist of the series. All seemed well for the Americans who hushed a filled out stadium in Calgary within the first minute. At the 4 minute mark though, Calgary gave the fans a big reason to cheer as they tied it up. Hiro Renomitsu (1 G, 3 A) played the role of hero with his first goal of the series. Assists went to Jardy Bunclewirth (3 A) and J.D Stormwall (3 G, 4 A) who is now tied with Kljk with 7 points for series top scorer. Lars Berger (4 G, 1 A) scored his team leading 4th goal of the series. Alexander Sauve (6 A) and Matthew Gunnarsson (5 A) remain goal less but pick up more assists. 16 seconds later, CGY D1 scored with assists going to Rhett Gouldhawke (2 A) and CGY D2. Always nice to get some scoring from randoms :PShots finished 19-13 in favor of the Calgary Wranglers.

The Americans tried to claw back with a goal 2 minutes into the 2nd. Matt Bailey (1G, 4 A) scored his first goal of the series with assists going to Jamie Nathanson (4 G, 2 A) and Zlatan Zanetti (1 G, 4 A) got the assists. Just one minute after the Americans scored, the Wranglers made it 4-2 when Lars Berger (5 G, 1 A) scored his 2nd goal of the game. Hiro Renomitsu (1 G, 4 A) and Matthew Gunnarsson (6 A). Matt Bailey took an ill timed penalty at 17 minutes then just as the penalty was going to expire CGY RW 1 scored with assists going to CGY D1 and Lars Berger (5 G, 2 A). This all but sealed the game for the Wranglers as it was 5-2. The shot total was 13-9 for Calgary with the game total 32-22 for Calgary.

An uneventful and rather dull 3 period played out as both teams just threw in the towel pretty much. Jardy Bunclewirth (1 G, 3 A) scored with just 13 seconds left in the game to make it 6-2. Juha Ikonen (1 G, 2 A) and J.D Stormwall (3 G, 5 A) got the assists. Third period shot total was 10-5 for New York bringing the game total to 37-32 for Calgary. Alex Young (2-2-1, 154/177, 0.895 SV%, 1 SO, 1 A) made 31 saves on 37 shots while Demetrijusz Dudek (3-2, 161/177, 0.910 SV%) made 30 on 32 shots. Lars Berger, Matthew Gunnarsson and CGY D 1 were named 1st, 2nd and 3rd stars. With his 2 assists, J.D Stormwall is the stand alone leader in series scoring with 8 points.

Game 6: New York Americans 4 Calgary Wranglers 2

We traveled back to New York, New York for Game 6 as Calgary could have wrapped up the series. However it didn't go exactly to plan. New York came out victorious at home with a 4-2 win. 5 of the 6 goals were scored in the 1st period. Lars Berger (6 G, 2 A) opened the scoring with his 6th goal of the series at the 13th minute mark. Alexander Sauve (7 A) got his 7th assist of the series on Berger's goal. 1 minute later, Nicholas Evans (3 G, 3 A) scored with assists going to Rocky Stork (4 A) and Matt Bailey (1 G, 5 A). Calgary took the lead just 3 minutes later when Mikka Virkkunen (4 G, 1 A) scored. Alexander Sauve (8 A) and Bryton Guerequeta (2 A) got the assists. Literally 10 seconds after they took the lead, Hiro Renomitsu took a hooking penalty in which New York scored on 8 seconds later. Jordan Berglund (2 G, 2 A) scored the PP goal with assists going to Matt Bailey (1 G, 6 A) and Zlatan Zanetti (1 G, 5 A). With 1 minute and 1 second remaming in the period, Nicholas Evans (4 G, 3 A) scored with Zlatan Zanetti (1 G, 6 A) getting the lone assist. Despite being down 3-2, Calgary out shot the Americans 19-13.

It seemed like another shootout was going to happen in the 2nd when New York took a 4-2 lead just 17 seconds into the period. Patrick Bergqvist (2G, 4 A) scored the goal while Matt Bailey (1 G, 7 A) and Zlatan Zanetti (1 G, 7 A) picked up assists. That was it for the rest of the game though. 2 period shot total was 9-6 for New York and 3rd period shot total was tied 8-8 for a game total of 33-30 for Calgary. Despite the decent showing from Calgary they just couldn't solve Young after the 1st period. Demetrjusz Dudek (3-3, 187/207, 0.903 SV%) made 26 saves on 30 shots while Alex Young (3-2-1, 185/205, 0.902 SV%) made 31 saves on 33 shots. Nicholas Evans, Zlatan Zanetti and Matt Bailey were 1st, 2nd and 3rd star.

This sets up a Game 7 in Calgary the winner goes to the finals! 5 players are at 8 points, 3 on Calgary (Lars Berger, J.D Stormwall and Alexander Sauve) while 2 are on the Americans (Matt Bailey, Zlatan Zanetti). Something tells me these guys will be need for this game or maybe we will have someone else breakout for Game 7 and be the hero, whatever the case may be, this will be one of the biggest games in these guy's career.

Review:

I haven't read any of these in the past, but enjoyed reading this one. It was a good write up of game 5 and 6, and i only caught about a handful of mistakes, which isn't terrible given the word count. It overall was a good look back into some VHL history
