The Helsinki Titans entered a re-build in the off-season leading up to Season Fifty, and now they are starting to see dividends from all those moves some seasons ago. Currently sitting third and final playoff spot in the European Conference, the Titans look poised to make a return to the post-season a tad bit earlier than most VHL experts expected. Today we’ll look at the roster of young studs that General Manager Daniel Anderson has assembled

Offense:

Asher Donovan (LW):

Donovan fell to the Titans in the Season Fifty VHL Entry Draft, at the Fourth Overall pick, which is essentially a steal for the franchise. Donovan has performed admirably this season putting up twenty-three points in twenty-six games, while also laying a beating on the opposing team with 148 hits on the season. Donovan was an elite player both physically and on the score sheet in the VHLM last season with the Yukon Rush, and so far in his young VHL career he has continued on that same path.

Thor Odinsson (LW):

Odinsson has started his VHL career with a bang even if it is only twenty-six games old. Odinsson leads all rookie skaters, including three team-mates, with twenty-nine points in those twenty-six games. Another Fourth Overall pick of the Titans, this time from the Season Forty-Nine VHL Entry Draft, Odinsson came to the team after winning a VHLM championship with the Bern Royals. After a stellar VHLM season which saw Odinsson put up forty-three goals in seventy-two games, the Titans couldn’t believe their luck when Odinsson was still on the board when they stepped up to the podium at the Season Forty-Nine draft. With Odinsson and Donovan running the offense for the next few seasons in Helsinki, many around the league believe the offense is in great hands.

Defense:

Shayne Gow (D):

Gow is another Season Forty-Nine draft pick of the Helsinki Titans. Gow has taken a bit more time then the before mentioned players in terms of development, but the patience has paid off wonders so far in Season Fifty for both Gow and the Titans. Gow played two seasons with the Ottawa Lynx during his time in the VHLM, and with his last season in Ottawa Gow showed what he was capable of when he put his mind and effort into something. Gow is right on the heels of Odinsson in the rookie scoring race with twenty-four points in twenty-six games, which is also good enough for seventh amongst VHL defensemen. If Gow continues to show up to practise each week, he will be a key cog in the Titans defense moving forward.

Dmitri Dadonov (G):

The biggest surprise this season for the Titans has to be the play of goaltender Dmitri Dadonov. Dadonov has been on a tear in his second VHL season, with an outstanding .925 save percentage and a 2.41 goals against average, while appearing in all twenty-six games for the Titans this season. Dadonov has cooled off a bit in the past ten games, but none the less the sophomore goaltender is opening a lot of eyes in the VHL this season. With a good nucleus of young players on the Titans roster in front of him, Dadonov’s best years are still to come.
