Podarok is actually having his best season yet, and maybe his career won't be a total bust. But he's already having to look towards his future, and when his contract runs out. He has grown restless, lately, and hidden himself from the public eye, until most recently the retirement of Thor Odinsson forced him back into the spotlight in a very short interview that seems to have carried some weight.

Podarok was asked a lot of questions and gave lots of short answers that gave nothing to the media. Until one question asked "is there a toxic environment in Seattle? Are you planning on accepting your player option?". After a long, 30 second pause, Podarok began his response:

"Look, we are a team. We win together, lose together, no matter what. People think that our team is shit because they hate our GM, and that's just not fair. Look at the player core, we are tighter than ever. Jakab Holik is the toast of the damn town, and Jarvi has been a wonderful addition. Rodriguez? Couldn't find a nicer guy anywhere, I promise you that. He never wanted to come to Seattle, he told us that much, but we were so happy to see him, as my first friend I ever made in America, it was amazing."

"look, our GM does some dumb shit. I'm not going to deny that, and my teammates won't deny it. But he cares about us, and he cares about winning. I wouldn't have signed that 5 year extension if I didn't believe that in my heart. He keeps us all in the loop every decision he makes, and always tries to get the best deal for us. You want to know why he tried to trade Odinsson right away? Because I asked him to. I thought it was a good idea. Maybe that's why I'm not a VHL GM. So blame me for that. Not him."

"So, I don't know. I've definitely considered my options after Seattle, there's no doubt about that. But who would I go to? Our whole team gets shit on because of our GM. Look at the Beketov player agency. They are working on creating their best player ever. Doesn't that show you something about us? Maybe I'll stay in Seattle, even though the constant confusing moves and how much people hate us has turned us into a laughing stock, and I've ceased to enjoy my time here. Because my other option is to go and work with those people who are laughing at us now. Maybe they forget easily, maybe it's just all jokes to them. But it's not to me. Just because you don't like our GM doesn't mean you have to hate on these hard working individuals who give their all every day in practice to perform to the best of their abilities. I'm the captain, and it's time I stand up for my guys. Hate the GM. Don't hate us. We deserve better. We are owed better"

and with that, Podarok walked of stage

Your player core and quality of players is separate from your GM though. So you deem to unfair, but when the guy pulling the punches isn't really GM material, it's hard to look at the team as a viable option. Negotiations is how you build your team and if you are a FA or another GM you won't want to deal with the headache. Only can build through the draft pretty much

I realize that, and most of this was a short fan 590 that I did in charachter that went a lot farther than I thought. But it's still annoying when the whole of Seattle is hated because of a GM.

Review:

Podarok dropped the fucking mic!

I'm definitely somebody that doesn't mind Seattle, or the GM at all. I hate nobody.

All teams have a chance at winning, with the right group of players.

You guys have a strong group of guys, and Bek has always been elite. Holik deserves to carry a team to a cup. Just not against Toronto.

I'm actually probably going to make it my media topic for the week, but to surmise my thoughts I'll put into that, while I think that he has stuff that he can work on improving and has made some mistakes in the past, I think those calling out Campbell as a "bad GM" or "not GM material" are being ridiculous. And this is from someone who doesn't like Seattle (which is to do with stuff in the past before Campbell's time).

I'm pretty decent at negotiations. So my trade offers are bad sometimes and my updater and I sometimes bat..

I don't see the reason for hate, nor @Kendrick do I not see how I'm not GM material. We have come a long way since S49/50. Especially due to our limitations. I handle my players well, involve them and do whatever I can to help them succeed individually and as a team. I literally put in a crazy amount of time. As you stated, most GM's are more experienced, thus know how to handle themselves and "work the system" a little better. They've been around the block a few times. So rather than shit on me during my first few seasons, why not give me a chance and wait until I'm a little more established, seasoned and have walked around the block a few times? I think that's mostly fair.

Seattle has a great group of guys and what we've built here, has been a team effort. We have one of the best goalies, in my mind the best. Podarok is an amazing player and person and so are the rest of the guys. Our D core is great and young. Everyone is signed long term. I say stupid shit sometimes or make a bad trade offer or two. At the end of the day, we're supposed to be here to enjoy the league - the site - the people. Why do we make such big deals and so much drama out of such small shit? Why can't we all just get along? It sounds kiddish, but it's pretty much the truth. We're hating on members when our members are what keep this place alive. Can we really afford to lose any? This kind of stuff pushed a lot of great SHLer's away and what makes the VHL so great. No drama.

I'm still learning and every time you cause something huge out of something small, I take a lot of hate. You've been here what, 50 seasons? I've been a GM for 4-ish. So please, I appreciate some of the feedback,  but I'm learning and I'm trying really hard. I only want what's best for the team and hopefully people can start coming around to the idea of Seattle because everyone here deserves it and that includes me. I will learn, I will become better at controlling my team, negotiating with other teams and establishing a true identity for Seattle. However, without a chance, how at all is that possible?

Seattle is an excellent choice for the team. I would do anything for this team and if it means stepping down, I'll do so. I wanted a VHL GM job so bad and have felt such strong pressure to perform. I have people hating on me left and right wanting to prove you wrong and guys who have put so much into me, I want to give back to them. Being a VHL GM is a lot, but I love doing it. I love signing on, doing the duties and finding a way for our team to kick ass together. I'm getting better and more efficient and we clearly see that in the standings.

All we need and I need is a chance. If you already have a bad picture painted, what else is there that can be done? Best part of the VHL is the no drama and it just being a great atmosphere where everyone is accepted. Seems to be changing oddly enough!

The whole of Seattle isn't hated at all. In fact many of the Seattle members are my favourite members to converse with (you included). It's when it comes to going to Seattle that people draw the line. We love you all, but your GM is the reason no one wants to touch Seattle.

From his time in the SHL and now, it doesn't look like his GM abilities are very promising. That is a fact.

The first part I bolded is correct, no one can deny you of that comment.

The second bolded part might ring true, but if that is the case you have to phrase your responses to people better. Hell I know first hand what happens with that as you've often spoken to me as your Updater like I'm someone there trying to rip TPE away from you. When in all reality, I am there to just ensure you have your updates correct. It's all in how you word things and people are getting annoyed with the passive aggressive shit. I should also state that they are willing to give leeway, but the constant PM's to people even after it was stated "its a little much" is a bit annoying.

No one is making drama out of shit actually haha. We are stating that you seem to be lost in why the rest of the league sees Seattle's handling as poor. You are confusing drama with critique. There is no drama here and actually still I have yet to see a bit spurt this calendar year. This isn't drama, this is people sticking up for a lack of knowledge.

You are pointing fingers again. "Overtime YOU cause something huge out of something small, I take a lot of hate". In what way? That's pointing fingers because you seem too gung-hoe with transactions. The chance is there for you and whether you learn is up to you. But with the SHL tampering thing, the leash isn't as long as someone else because it's not like the doubt just vanishes. Nothing is changing, but you think so because it's against you. Everyone is willing to give you a chance, just as long as you don't talk to them like they are shit.

Rest of the league? Dunno why your opinion becomes "the rest of the league". Two people above just stated they don't mind myself, nor Seattle. Anywho, have a good night Kendrick. I will take your feedback into consideration as always.

Well considering this blew up because of Molholt, Mr. Power and various other members chiming in over the past year or so, I'd say it's more than just myself man. There you go against with the backhanded comments haha, you just don't know when to stop.

Probably won't be doing this actually. Looking back at that Odinsson thread and this one, it looked at first like there were more "bad GM" and "Not GM Material" posts, but it actually looks like there was only really one person suggesting that he was "bad". The rest were not necessarily being calls of Campbell being a "bad GM", but more criticisms (and somewhat valid ones at that which I had planned on bringing up in the article) of some of the methods he uses, so it seems a bit overblown to respond to one person's opinion with a media article.

But yeah, Campbell is not a bad GM, he has made some mistakes in the past and does have some areas that he can work on improving, but anyone who suggests he's "not GM material" is being ridiculous.
