The VHL playoffs got underway several days ago. After a easy predicted sweep in the North American conference and a couple of close nail biters that ultimately lead to a 5 round win for Helsinki over in the European conference, the "real" playoffs are set to get underway.

For much of the season, the VHL has appeared to be a 4 team league. Everyone knew one of Stockholm, Quebec, New York and Helsinki would be your match up for the Continental Cup finals. And of course one would eventually win. Everyone figured it'd play out pretty much to a tee like it has, maybe save for Astrid Moons sudden change of fortune skill wise. But here we are, ready for what promises to be some exciting, engaging, playoff action.

In Europe the Helsinki Titans have a lot to play for. On top of trying to prove that they not Stockholm are the best young up and coming team of the future, Helsinki wants to avenge some embarrassing defeats at the hands of the Vikings from last years playoff series. A series that saw the Titans get eliminated in six, and out scored 27 to 15 in only those 6 games. It wasn't a banner year. And while Season 54 certainly provided some more hope for the young Titans core, the fact that the Vikings went from hot young team to consensus team to beat and league best...well that can't feel welcoming. The Titans are going to have to dig deep and accept the underdog roll to pull of the upset over the migthy Viking if they want to make magic happen this season.

Over in the North American Conference the same two teams from last years conference finals will also battle it out. The New York Americans had no problems dispatching the Quebec City Muete last season in 5 games. This was despite a masterful performance from Apollo Skye, who this season has a bit more offensive help to guide him through the series. The Americans only actually out scored the Muete 10 to 7 in the series last season, so buckle up because we could be in for more over time action. Especially with Jakab Holik now in net for the Americans. The interesting twist about this series is that given the regular season performances, New York the back to back defending Continental Cup Champions are really the underdogs in this series. Despite having the clear star power advantage, the Americans found themselves on the losing end to the Meute far more than they would have liked this past season. And with rookie of the year candidate John Locke, and overall group that feels ready to turn the corner, Quebec really feels like they can make some noise this year.

Second round playoff hype is underway, and this may as well be a media spot so I don't know why I'm posting it here. But whatever, I'll probably end up claiming welfare for Power this week too like a real chump. #Logic
