S57 Draft Class Already Showing Promise

VHL HEADQUARTERS, Canada - The trade deadline of the VHL's 55th season just passed, surprisingly without any action. All the teams decided to stand pat on any transactions, as it is pretty clear who the cup contenders/threats and rebuilding teams are this season. So knowledgeably the deadline was pretty boring on that front, however the other side of the deadline; the side that allowed prospects to declare for the S57 VHL Entry Draft, was the opposite. As of right now, seven players have already declared, and all are either recreates or 2nd-player-project players, which means that all seven have a very good chance at being drafted in the first round.

Centers

Ulyanin Namestnikov

@FBR

Despite any assumptions based on that name, Ulyanin Namestnikov is Canadian, not Russian. Ulyanin comes from a player agency who enjoyed moderate success in the S30's and S40's in terms of player creation (Evgeny Namestnikov and Joshua Rubin reached 400 TPE or more). His most recent player though, KYLO, was a bust, retiring with only 40 TPE, a far cry from his two predecessors. Hopefully this time around, this offensive forward will reach the level of Evgeny Namestnikov and Rubin at the very least.

Chase Keller

@Kendrick

Thanks to his agency being known for consistently producing superstar players, Keller is already leading this draft class in terms of TPE. The British Columbian is already almost halfway to the mark of graduating from the VHLM and his career has barely even began. Keller is likely already a lock to be drafted in the top 3 overall picks of S57.

Jeff Gow

Another member of the VHL's very large Gow family, Jeff Gow is a high scoring offensive talent from the family's home base in Philadelphia. Gow's agency has a history of producing reliable and effective players in the VHL, so there's no reason to think that Jeff won't be more of the same.

Defensemen

Boner

@Corco

Boner is the first 2nd-player-project player for the Corco agency. The agency's 1st current player, Rudolph Schmeckeldorf was drafted in the 1st round by the Helsinki Titans in S54. He and the shutdown defender Boner represent the agency's return to the VHL after a 10 season hiatus.

Ko Kane

@BobertZ

Perhaps already this draft class' most controversial player, Ko Kane has stated that he has no plans to participate in the VHLM, claiming it to be a dying league that would hinder his development. Kane has elite skill no doubt, but will teams shy away from him due to his agency's history/attitude?

Goaltenders

Norris Kensington

@Bushitroll

Like Boner, Kensington is his agency's first 2nd-player-project player. His agency has produced a very successful goalie on more than one occasion, and there is no reason to think that history won't repeat itself here for the team that drafts Norris. Kensington definitely has superstar potential if he stays on the same pace as his agency's other current player, Hudson Abbott of the Helsinki Titans.

Shawn Brodeur

@TheLastOlympian07

Brodeur has the jump on Kensington in terms of talent level right now, but to keep this lead he will need to improve at the rate of his now-retired Shawn Muller; arguably the agency's best player. This is the first 2nd player for Brodeur's agency though, so his career trajectory is anybody's guess right now.

REVIEW:

We're not even at the beginning of S56 and it's already looking like at least the top half of the S57 Draft is going to be pretty good. There's also a good balance between forwards, defensemen, and goalies. I know it's still early, but this may be another Super Draft.
