I may not have had a player go the full course of a career, but I have enjoy several of my players along the way. I have had more in my short time here than a lot of people have had in their careers here. The very first player I had dates all the way back to around season 27 or 28 and spans all the way up until now. While a little over half have been less than a disappointment, it seems as if my retiring ways weren't exactly something that was positive. In fact it was quite the opposite as I have gained the notorious reputation of being someone who is a retirement risk with every player. Two of my players have been higher up in TPE and some of them hadn't even topped 400 TPE. In fact I believe that a couple of my players didn't even top over 100 TPE. I know it's a shame to waste someone's pick when they draft you and such, but sometimes I just get down right bored of a player and just want to move on. If all of my players had made it to let's say 500+ TPE and spent roughly 4 seasons minimum, it might be a little better for me. Sadly that wasn't the case and some players never even made it past 2 seasons. I am going to get into a quick recap of my players and what I thought about them and what I expected to do with their careers.

Roger Fenzing - This was my very first player in the VHL. While I hadn't known a single thing about hockey, he went on to have a very solid VHLM career. I can't go back and look at the indexes to show what my stats were, I know that he had over 100 points in both seasons that I can remember. I hadn't been too interested in the VHL at the time and I believe that my production fell off rather quickly. I never made it out of the VHLM that I can recall but I am not certain if this player made it to the VHL at any point in time. I was more into Shaka's pop up leagues that he created and managed to just follow those around when they sprung up. So Roger Fenzing was just a foot in the door which would later create more opportunities for me in the VHL. At the time of creating him, I had been interested and was working with photoshop to improve my horrid graphic skills. Let's just say that my knowledge of photoshop was very minuscule and I created disasters. That didn't stop me from trying to better myself. I created a new graphic weekly trying to get better and earn more points for Roger. It only lasted until the new Shaka league emerged and I would go missing until season 33.

Davey Jones - I would have to say that he was one of my more enjoyable players. While he may not be the best statistically or TPE wise, he was the best forward that I had ever created. I had a lot of fun when I had Jones and this is what peaked my interest in making the VHL my full time go to sim league. Jones won rookie of the year and it would be the beginning of me wanting to make him better weekly. I went on from full time graphic making to actually writing. This made sure that I was going to get full points and I was doing my best to make him one of the best. I played my rookie season with Cologne but then I forced myself out by trying to screw over Kendrick. At the time I just wanted to experience free agency and I wanted on a competing team. So I basically told him that I was going to bolt and he should get something for me while he still could. I knew this was an asshole thing to do but it was what I wanted at the time. That would be the turning point in how Kendrick and I would go about talking with each other. I was traded to Davos as they were one of the teams interested, (the other was the Helsinki Titans with STZ as the GM). My reason for wanting to get Davos to grab me instead of Helsinki was that I knew more people on the Dynamo and I only knew STZ on the Titans. I know it's a shitty thing to say but that is how I saw things. With Jones I went on to win two cups in four seasons with some of the best teammates. Jones was going to be my first chance at the hall of fame until I decided to end his career too short. I believe he only lasted til his 6th season before I ran out of things to write about and I just wanted to end it. So his career was done but that didn't mean the end of Da Trifecta. In fact it lead to one of my other enjoyable players, Niklaus Mikaelson.

Niklaus Mikaelson - I had no clue what to do when it came to making a goalie. In fact I reached out to Green and he gave me a nice detailed write up about what I should work on first and go for. Little did I know that I would actually enjoy goalie for a short period of time. The Oslo Storm was my pipeline to getting into the VHL. Despite not winning a cup for this franchise, I enjoyed the time I was there and Will, (back then he was known as Draper), was my GM and things looked promising for Niklaus. I went on to be the first overall selection in the season 41 draft and I lead by the second overall selection by a 60 TPE lead. Bushito was the one who made me the first overall selection and it would be the start of a solid friendship. In fact it would actually lead to me being the Co-GM in due time. For now, reflecting upon my rookie season which despite being nothing to look at, I was looking at the long term goal. I was in it for the long haul and I wanted this to actually be my hall of fame player. I had gained a lot more TPE than Jones did each year and I was very proud of how things were turning out. My second season was another stepping stone towards a long enjoyable career. My third season saw us winning the cup. The entire league counted us out and we actually wasn't even supposed to make it out of the first round really. Led by stellar play from Niklaus Mikaelson and Damon Tyrael, this team would go on to win their first cup in many of seasons. Of course there were others on the team, but these two split the playoff MVP and that is why they are listed. After winning the cup, which shocked the entire VHL, it seemed like Mikaelson was on top of the world. That is where I was wrong. The team was starting its blow up phase and I was shipped out to the Quebec City Meute. Here I enjoyed a nice solid season but it didn't translate to a cup. After that I was sent off to the Americans in a trade. There I would go on to win my first Aidan Shaw award and that would be where Niklaus' career would also end. Five seasons in and that was the end of his VHL career.

Olivia Diamond - Thought to be my next best project but to me it was a stop gap. I hit the same wall with Niklaus that I did with Davey and things were going south. I hadn't found the drive to do PT's and Olivia was just something to hold me over for the next best thing. Of course I didn't think it was going to be as quick as it was but it was just a means to an end. I was drafted to the Americans and I thought I could hold out long enough to enjoy a nice career. She started out as a defender but moved to winger I believe to keep me interested in keeping her. That didn't last long either as I called it quits with her almost in no time. I had bigger and better things to move on to and was going to be back to enjoying the VHL with another star player. Enter Kai Roberts.

Kai Roberts - I was going into the creation thread with the though in my head that he would be able to surpass Davey Jones career numbers and TPE production. This was going to be my redemption player and I was going to be able to enjoy having a great player again. That though lasted all of about a season or two until I landed with the Riga Reign. After making some convincing arguments to get people like TheLastOlympian07 and BluObieZ to join the franchise with their players, I would go on to have another enjoyable season. After winning the cup with these fellas, others too, I believe I called it quits yet again. I had my second player in Judocus Dermaux in the VHLM and things were looking bleak for him as well.

Judocus Dermaux - I literally have no idea what I was doing when I created this player. The two player system had just came out and I wanted to be able to enjoy the fact I won the lotto to make a second player. If I had thought for a second that I wouldn't be keeping him around that long, I wouldn't have created him. I should have just stuck it out with Kai Roberts and just made him the focus. I decided instead that two players would be awesome and I bought into the hype early on. Let me just go ahead and say that maintaining two players is not as easy as it seems. While it seems enjoyable now, the pressure to get things done for their PT's or welfare can be a pain in the ass. So I ended up fizzling out with both of these disappointments and I wanted the next big thing yet again. Would I actually be able to have the next big thing though or would it just be another stop gap? Say hello to Rubber Band.

Rubber Band/Astrid Moon - Coming into the league, Rubber Band was going to be my chance to redeem myself from the mistake that plagued Niklaus' career. I wanted to have another chance at a goalie and this time I was going to do it right. I wanted to keep focused on this player and he was going to be the best thing I have ever created. I had just the focus of him and no second player to wear me out. Landing with the Helsinki Titans was sort of my doing. I had went into the draft telling Gooningitup and Brovy not to draft me. This would lead to Davos selecting Mist4ke and Brovy trading for Jacob. That trade with Brovy and Higgins would also lead to the fact that you can't change your GM player any time you feel like it. My first season with the team was decent in terms of winning but my numbers were atrocious. We went to the playoffs but were knocked out with ease. The reason for that was my build was completely deterred from what it should have been. I took full blame for the loss and I wanted to better myself. During my second season it would be something to shut up the VHL. After being known as the reason the Titans had lost the previous playoffs, I would go on to win the VHL playoff MVP due to my stellar performances. This was also the first cup in a back to back scenario. My third season led to us being in the Finals yet again and coming out on top. This time the playoff MVP was awarded to my teammate, Theo Axelsson. Currently in the off-season of my fourth season. My fourth season didn't lead very far int he playoffs but it led to some experience. Things are just getting started for Astrid Moon ad my fifth season should be just as enjoyable.

VHLM Forever - Well this player didn't start with this name but I just forgot what the other name was. This player was by far the worst as I was going to be a welfare guy but I was convinced by Bushito we was going to rule the VHLM. That lasted all until he landed a GM gig and I grew bored of VHLM Forever. GM DollarandaDream wasted a pick, (sorry bud), and VHLM Forever retired.

Launchpad McQuack - My next thing to keep me occupied. This player has been the highlight of my career since making Moon. He will be drafted this upcoming off-season and while he hasn't done anything memorable yet in his career, things will be getting started soon enough for him. I am excited for the draft and I can't wait to see where he calls home for the next three seasons.

I can get like a full calendar year's worth of TPE doing it for my players.

Cool story. This was just me stopping because I already hit the 2000 word mark. I could have written more and went into depth around 5,000 words easily.

  • Commissioner

Fun fact: you've had 1 player more than me and I've been around 27 seasons longer.

Review:

The player of yours I remember the most has to be Mikaelson. Won the cup and beat my team on the way there. Olivia Diamond I thought was pretty good as well, and I thought you'd stick it out with Kai Roberts, but it's all good.

Yeah, I wasted that pick on VHLM Forever. Shame I didn't check the retirement section, but also nobody told me about it at draft, yet it was told to be announced to GMs. Funny how I couldn't get back that pick though, if that's the case.
