STZ 5,389
Mitch HigginsMember: HigginsPositions Held: VHL Commissioner, VHL General Manager, VHLM General Manager, VHLM Simmer, VHL Magazine Writer, World Cup General Manager When I first met Mitch it was in my draft year with my first player Ethan Osborne. I had about two months experience with the league, and I was about to enter my first draft. Higgins was the General Manager at the time for the Helsinki Titans and I remember him sending me a pre-scout private message to check on my activity, and touch base with me. I was a first-generation player behind two veterans who had a significant lead on me TPE-wise. The conversation was brief, and I had figured I was slotted in the third overall spot. I’ll never forget being at work the night of the draft, and seeing him call my name. He took a huge risk that paid off, as he selected me first overall - and was the first time a General Manager ever selected a player first overall. This to me sums up Higgins’ time in the VHL. He’s a member who thinks outside the box, and tends to see things a few steps ahead of everyone else. I mention his General Manager experience first for a reason. I firmly believe he is the greatest GM to every play this game. He’s proven the bes a consistent winner who knows how to build championship teams. Not only does he have a keen eye for prospect talent, but he has a track record for having some of the most beneficial trades to his own team. Mitch has built some incredible players. His first player was Mitch Higgins the defenseman, who won multiple cups, best defender award, and is inducted in the Hall of Fame. After that he made a goalie as a GM Player for the Helsinki Titans, Tuomas Tukio. Not only did he crush TPE records with that player, but he created one of the best goalies to ever play in the VHL - that player is also in the VHL Hall of Fame. Higgins stayed true to his lost island references when making useful players in James Faraday and Jacob, but really brought the heat with his most recent Hall of Fame player, Black Velvet. The Alannah Myles inspired player took the league by storm and is a major reason for the back-to-back-to-back championships in Toronto. The sim is a difficult thing to understand and nearly impossible to master. However, you look at his three Hall of Fame players, and his work as General Manager, and it’s clear to conclude the Higgins is a master of this league. Finally, I want to touch on a few of the jobs Higgins has held during his time in the VHL. To me, an uncredited job Higgins held for an extended period of time was VHL Magazine Writer. Working along closely with him, Higgins was one of the better writers for the magazine, and was consistently bringing in quality articles every week. He’s one of the only members who consistently held his spot from the time of Ree to my time at the magazine. In a HOF summary like Higgins’ it will be an unmentioned and probably forgotten contribution as it is overshadowed by so many bigger things - to me this consistency and reliability shows a lot about his character and is what brings me to his current jobs. Mitch is our longest standing VHL Commissioner and current VHLM Simmer. During his time has Commissioner he has been the anchor to the team. For many seasons he carried the workload and ensured the league on schedule. As we separated the VHL and VHLM Indices Higgins became our exclusive VHLM Simmer. He’s been consistent and runs one of the most important jobs in the league in ensuring the league that holds all of our future prospects is being managed correctly. I’m very happy to see Mitch Higgins in the Hall of Fame as a Builder. He’s been a major influencer on this site, and is a big reason why myself, along with countless other members choose to keep VHL in their daily routine. Mitch could very well be the most valuable member in this site’s history, yet you would never hear that from him. It’s for that reason I have tried to be as thorough as possible to recognize Mitch of his incredible accomplishments in the VHL. Congratulations Higgy, and thank you for everything you’ve done. @Higgins Higgins, Will, TheLastOlympian07 and 1 other 3 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/47746-mitch-higgins-builder-article-12/ Share on other sites

DollarAndADream 3,357
Review: Higgins is definitely a master. I've enjoyed watching all of his players since I've been here in like S36. I think I started watching LOST during his James Faraday era....and realized it was a reference during it. Kind of funny, the actor for James Faraday plays Baldur in the new God of War game. You can definitely tell it's him too with the face. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/47746-mitch-higgins-builder-article-12/#findComment-524954 Share on other sites
