I think you need someone to claim him to be on the safe side. I don't know if the rules have changed but don't think just waiving a non rookie releases the full cap hit.

Because I know you like stuff like this, if Gloop wasn't claimed and was released, Seattle would have taken half the cap hit for the remainder of the player's contract, regardless of when during the season the player was released.

 

Only reason I remember is from waiving Kimo Salo for cap purposes #SethKnew
