The slog that is the VHL season has allegedly entered the playoffs, although I wouldn't have known that if I didn't stumble into the VHLM games forum the other day. I seem to recall getting a lot more enjoyment from the regular season in the past but I'll remain optimistic and chalk it up to a personal issue and probably not being sufficiently involved with the proper VHL.

 

Which does beg the question though, what is the point of the VHLM though? It's not fun, it's never been fun and in this weird late autumn era of the VHL it's just a liability. Before I left last there were suggestions that we could somehow get rid of the VHLM entirely but those clearly never came to fruition. I still feel like that should be considered, especially with all this recent hype around changing the 8-season career rule. Maybe get rid of drafts too, although that be my extreme European influences coming through now.

 

But imagine, you just sign a VHL team when you join and maybe you don't join the VHL straight away but you join a pseudo-development league (with a lot of CPUs) and wait until you are deemed ready for the VHL. And you get an instant VHL connection and locker room. Or maybe force all teams to use 4 lines meaning team HAVE TO use VHLMers and then a newly created player as a rookie won't be outclassed by existing players since they'll be competing against 3rd and 4th liners.

 

Or something. I'm not convinced myself it was just verbal diarrhoea.

My thought process on the VHLM has been that, if the right personnel are in place, it can totally work as a great starting point for new members, but at the same time I feel like with the right systems in place, you could definitely get the same results, maybe even better, without the VHLM. The problem though would be getting those systems figured out, and some of those would require a lot of work (including some testing in the sim). Given that the VHLM is capable of achieving results, that makes getting rid of it is more a possibility rather than a necessity, and as a result, people aren't going to be as prepared to talk over the fundamentals of making the league work without it. I think I might make my next media article about this topic.

 

I would take a hard pass on the pseudo-CPU league though, because I was in a league that had one of those before and it was dreadful, plus convincing someone to commit their time to simming games that contain mostly CPUs would be a big ask.

Tbh I have no clue why the “oldies” hate the VHLM to me it’s perfectly healthy at the moment teams are full players are active what is with your guys beef with the league?

Me neither. While we're at it, let's remove the 8 year career cap. I see nothing wrong with somebody wanting to play their player into the 40's like Jagermeister. I'd like to take Kiaskov as far as I can career wise

I don't think anyone has anything against it but its a logistical necessity given our member base.

I don't think its perfectly healthy. How many actives aren't recreates?

I have 4 and I have by far the smallest roster in the league.  Considering we've been lucky to have 4 new members active in the VHLM period in the past, I would say it's looking much better.

I can only see 2 active first gens on Las Vegas? One of which is a S62 draftee so too early to tell.

 

Not a shot against you obviously, I think other teams are the same or worse, just saying if that is considered a success in the VHLM then the VHLM is not a success.
