TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Much like this with the NCAA Rankings, lets rank the VHLM teams. Thanks to @alecbama I had this idea, I found out it was him who did it in the EFL. We can only go back to Season 35 though on the old indexes so this ranking will only be from S35 onward. 10 - Turku Outlaws Record: 15-49-8 Playoff Record: 0-0 Awards: 0 The Turku Outlaws have one of he best names in league history in my opinion, however, that didn't help them very much in Season 35 as they were able to limp to the finish line with a 15-49-8 record which was last in the VHLM. The team really consisted of no one of note but point per game player in Matthew Mira who scored 46 goals and assisted on 38 goals for 84 points. The goalies were dismal with the best save percentage being 0.876 between the two and both having G.A.A above 4.25 on the season. This has them rightfully in last place in our VHLM rankings. 9 - Bratislava Watchmen Record: 21-46-5 Playoff Record: 0-0 Awards: 0 Bratislava also had a equally bad season with a 21-46-5 record which was 9th in the VHLM. Despite being a high scoring bunch with 3 players above or near PPG status and 6 players having more than 50 points. Mario Corvia led the way with 68 goals and 55 assists for 123 points. Lauris Prikulis led the team with 70 assists. Jordan Hall seemed to let the team down in net with a 0.853 save percentage and 4.58 G.A.A. Bratislava is saved from being at the bottom by Turku. 8 - Yukon Rush Record: 21-44-7 Playoff Record: 0-0 Awards: 0 The Rush are much like the Watchmen finishing last in their conference despite having a pretty good team PPG wise. 7 players had over 50 points with Sasha Stepanov leading the way with 61 goals, 48 assists for 109 points. Herman Mudgett and Tobias Funke had over 50 assists for the Rush as well. Magelhaes Pergher was the man in net and he didn't do as well as expected with a 0.880 save percentage and a 3.92 G.A.A. The Rush barely finish ahead of the Watchmen by 2 points. 7 - Bern Royals Record: 32-37-3 Playoff Record: 2-4 Awards: 0 Bern in at number 7 despite making the playoffs? Well they played in the far weaker conference. If they had played in the NA, they would have finished in last place. The Royals weren't all that bad with a near .500 record though and they managed to make the playoffs. With 6 players over 70 points, the Royals were led by Earl Parker and Guy Lukovski who was acquired in a trade from Turku. These two players had over 100 points each. Parker scored 59 goals and assisted on 54 goals for 113 points while Guy scored 41 goals and assisted on 64 goals for 105 points, 98 of which came with Bern. In the playoffs, Bern would play the Oslo Storm who finished 12 points ahead of them in the standings. It was a decent playoff series with Oslo pulling out the win in 6 games. Earl Parker, Guy Lukovski and Carter Deaton led the way with 7, 7 and 6 points each. The downfall for the Royals? Not having a real goalie. 6 - Brampton Blades Record: 40-28-4 Playoff Record: 0-0 Awards: 0 The Brampton Blades finished with a 40-28-4 record which was good enough for 84 points which would have been 2nd in the European Conference but the thing is, they played in the NA Conference where 84 points got you 4th place and No playoffs. It is unfortunate but these things happen. The Blades were led by 5 players who had more than 72 points including Mikhail Mikhailovich who scored 76 goals and assisted on 59 for 135 points. Kaspars Tsizlings led the team in assists with 60 (he finished with 82 points). Zach Fucale had a decent season in net with a 0.893 save percentage and a 2.84 G.A.A. However, it was not enough and the Blades missed the playoffs in Season 35 which leads them to a 6th place finish in our rankings. 5 - Vasteras Iron Eagles Record: 39-26-7 Playoff Record: 2-4 Awards: 1 The Iron Eagles finished 1st in the Euro with a 39-26-7 record which is pretty respectable. The Iron Eagles were a 1 line team with 3 players breaking 100 points. However, 3 others broke the respectable 60 point mark. Boone Cassidy led the team with 89 goals and 43 assists for 132 points while Mikael Eriksson chipped in with 111 points (52 G | 59 A) and Hattrick Shwayze had 102 points (46 G | 56 A). Moe Mills led the team in assists with 66 while chipping in 11 goals for 77 points. The man between the pipes was TotallyNotA Bear who might have one of the best names in VHL history. He might have been the weak link on the team with a 0.888 save percentage and a 3.72 G.A.A. The Iron Eagles received a bye into the semi's due to finishing 1st but were bounced by the Oslo Storm in 6 games. Hattrick Shwayze, Slater Fjorsstrom, Boone Cassidy and Mikael Eriksson all had more than 6 points but Bear let them down in net with a 0.886 save percentage and a 3.50 G.A.A in 6 games. Due to this I have them ranked 5th because in reality they should have bounced the Storm. Cassidy led the VHLM circuit with 89 goals which was good enough to land him the award giving the Vasteras Franchise it's first award (remember S35 onwards) 4 - Oslo Storm Record: 36-29-7 Playoff Record: 8-8 Awards: 0 Now we come to the Oslo Storm who finished the season with a 36-29-7 record which was good enough for 2nd in the Euro. Oslo was built like no other team we have seen so far with not so much strong scoring but strong in net. Martin Brookside was the star on the team with a 0.905 save percentage and a 2.80 G.A.A with 6 shutouts. Jeff Phiney led the team in scoring with 20 goals and 64 assists for 84 points while Godavari Yumalatopinto and Akila Beast led the team in goals with 34 and 33 goals each. The Storm's magical run began against the Bern Royals in whom they beat in 6 games. Then against the Iron Eagles, the Storm upset them in 6 games to move onto the finals which was a bit of a shock considering he standings. However, the Cinderella story came to a end in the finals as they were swept. Martin Brookside was the star with a 0.897 save percentage and 3.19 G.A.A. Roland Brice led the team in points with 18 (16 assists) while Dujaun Cook came in cluth with 8 goals (15 points). 7 players on this run had more than 10 points. Despite making the finals, I have them here in 4th because they played in a far weaker conference. 3 - Minot Gladiators Record: 55-12-5 Playoff Record: 1-4 Awards: 1 Minot comes in ranked 3rd with a 55-12-5 record despite the team finishing 2nd in the regular season giving Ottawa a run for it's money. Minot was led by top goaltender Que Cumberbatch who won the award with a 0.914 save percentage and a 2.11 G.A.A with 9 shutouts. Minot also had 8 players get over 67 points led by Razzle Dazzle who scored 49 goals and assisted on 79 goals for 130 points. Aelred Leskowski led the team with 52 goals (94 Points). In the playoffs, the Gladiators were upset by the Wild who beat them quite easily in 5 games. Que was not up to standard with a 0.863 save percentage and a 4.20 G.A.A but he had 1 shutout in the win they did get. The offense dried up with no one at a PPG only Queen Latifa scored 4 goals which led the team in points by 2. Overall, it was a disappointing end to a good season for the Gladiators. 2 - Saskatoon Wild Record: 41-22-9 Playoff Record: 5-5 Awards: 2 Saskatoon finished pretty far behind the Gladiators, 24 points to be exact, but that didn't sour the mood going into the playoffs since the Wild finished just 7 points ahead of the Blades. The Wild bulked up at the deadline adding Chris McZerhl, Jaden Button, Johan Hallstrom along with backup goalie Vladimir Bodnar. 6 Players ended up with more than 59 points on the Wild, led by XXX who scored 86 goals and assisted on 42 for 128 points. Phil Villenueve and Tyler Owens led the team in assists with 85 and 84 a piece. Brick Wahl had a stellar season posting a 0.909 save percentage along with a 2.57 G.A.A and 7 shutouts. In the playoffs, Minot was expected to walk by Sask and into the semi's against Ottawa but Sask had different plans. After a 5 game upset, the Wild went on to play the Lynx but only last 5 games themselves bowing out with a 5-5 record. XXX led the way with 22 goals and 11 assists for 33 points. Owens and Villenueve were tied for assists again with 16 each. Wahl played admirably with a 5-3-2 record, 0.905 save percentage and a 2.78 G.A.A with 2 shutouts. XXX wound up winning Top 2-Way Forward and Playoff MVP. 1 - Ottawa Lynx Record: 60-8-4 Playoff Record: 8-1 VHLM Championships: 1 VHLM Prime Minister's Cup: 1 Awards: 5 The Ottawa Lynx finished with the best record losing only 12 times on the season including just 4 in OT or SO. With 60 wins on the season, the Lynx won the Prime Minister's Cup which is the best Regular Season Record. The Lynx were led by Jeevan Samuelsson who scored 74 goals and assisted on 96 goals for 170 points. Robin Gow led the team in assists with 97 assists (145 points) while Mike Szatkowski Jr was the main man in net. 7 Players finished with over 78 points while Samuelsson, Gow, Matt Reilly and Conner Low had more than 100 points each. Szakowski finished the season with a 0.908 save percentage and a 2.16 G.A.A with 7 shutouts. In the playoffs, the Lynx steamrolled through with a 4-1 series win over Saskatoon and 4-0 sweep over Oslo. 6 players finished with over 9 points. Conner Low led the team in points and assists (23 P | 19 A) while Brennen McQueen scored 13 goals in 9 games. MSJR finished with a 0.888 save percentage and a 2.53 G.A.A which wasn't the best but Ottawa was just too much for everyone and ended up winning the Founder's Cup. Robin Gow won the MVP and Oates Trophy, Samuelsson won the Dionne Trophy, Low won the Bourque Trophy and finally, Jim Gow won the Ken Holland Trophy. Overall, it was a very successful season in the VHLM for Ottawa as they were the top team all season long. Do you agree with the standings? Is there something you would change?
