Cologne Express Prospect Watch - Part II

This is part two of our "Cologne Express Prospect Watch" feature which takes a look at how the year has went for the Cologne Express prospects currently playing in the VHLM. We hope you enjoy the article, if you have missed part one then you can find it here: http://www.vhlforum.com/index.php?/topic/6888-cologne-express-prospect-watch/

Ron World Peace – Bern Royals

What a year for Ron World Peace! The Cologne-born German was one of the biggest fallers on draft day, slipping all the way to the second pick in the second round before being picked by his hometown team even though he had a very good first year for an import player. Now, in his second year in the VHLM, he seems to be on a mission to prove every GM that passed on him wrong. World Peace has put up an unbelievable 150 points through 55 games – as a Defenseman! He currently sits second in the league in points behind third year player David Januzaj while also being an imposing physical force (261 Hits) and most experts agree that World Peace is the best-rounded player currently in the VHLM. Making the step to the VHL next season still won’t be easy for the highly-talented defenseman, but if he keeps developing like he has so far this year then he should be a mainstay on the Express blueline for years to come.

Kai Randal – Yukon Rush

A pure passing player, Kai Randal has been one of the better playmakers in the VHLM this season and he also is a true powerplay specialist, with 21 of his 51 points coming on the man advantage. Randal may not get as much of a chance to shine as some of his peers, since he sometimes gets buried on the depth chart of a very deep Yukon Rush team, but he has made the best of his opportunities so far and has been a steady presence on the team’s second line for most of the season. It will be interesting to see if Randal can crack the VHL-roster for the Cologne Express next season, but on a team that is heavy on shooters but could use another playmaker, he should get every chance to prove he belongs in the big leagues.

Kez Kincaid – Turku Outlaws

Kez Kincaid has quietly worked his way up since coming into the VHLM. Starting out as a bottom-six player with very limited ice-time he has since played himself into a top-six role with the Turku Outlaws, putting up a very respectable 40 points in 54 games so far. He is still a pretty raw player that will probably get at least another season in the minors, but the management in Cologne is very happy with the development of the player they snagged with the 20th overall pick in the Season 37 draft.

Kristian Stormborn – Bern Royals

Much of the same came be said about Kristian Stormborn, who was even more of a pleasant surprise this season. The third rounder who came into the league with virtually no expectations has since made the very best of the opportunities given to him and has quietly put up 70 points in 56 games for the Bern Royals. Maybe even more impressive is the fact that the 5’7 Stormborn has racked up 114 hits along with 61 penalty minutes, which shows that he is definitely feisty enough to overcome his small frame and one day make it in the VHL. It is still a rather long road for Stormborn, probably the longest of all the players we touched on in this article, but finding a player with legitimate VHL-potential at 25th overall still is more than everyone in Cologne could have hoped for.
