Riga Welcomes 8 Rookies, Calls Up 3 Sophomores

Riga, Latvia - If you thought the Riga roster looked a little different this season, you'd be right. The Reign welcomed a total of seven new S69 (nice) draftees, and just one of them (Guy Saskamoose @Cxsquared) will be joining the big league roster this season around. The massive 6'4" defenseman joins veterans Lincoln Tate and Apollo Hackett as the third blue liner on the team, and will be asked to take immediate, significant even-strength time, if not some PK duties.

The Reign also welcome three call-ups to the main squad in center Chad Gilbert@Fire_In_Babylon and wingers Jeff Tates @PotatoKing and Ryan Busser @diacope. This move follows a trade that moved Joseph McWolf to the Malmo Nighthawks in exchange for Jack Lynch and a variety of picks over the following couple of drafts. It may make deciding ice time for forwards a bit difficult for manager Benjamin Zeptenbergs, though no doubt there is already a plan in place. With the World Cup and off-season currently in-progress, the Reign will have a little bit of time to figure out their roster. Zeptenbergs enters the season with a solid 596-338-74 career record (62.7%) and two conference finals in the last two seasons; can they take the next step and make a finals appearance after a change of scenery?

They'll have their work cut out for them after a ridiculously strong European Conference seems to have gotten even stronger after teams like Moscow and Malmo acquired key free agents - though no doubt the Reign are up for the task.
