Berocka Sundqvist Sitting Out

I am sitting down with Berocka Sundqvist after Seattle’s two wins against top competitors in the EU Conference, beating both Malmo and Moscow. Berocka did not feature in either of these games as he sat completely dressed and didn’t play one second, it was him and Nixon sitting on the bench having a chat all game. 

 

SB: So how did it make you feel having to sit out and not play in these two games?

BS: Honestly not that good I want to be out there on the ice, and I want to perform, but truth be told I haven’t been performing so my benching is warranted as far as I am aware. I want the team to do well and if I can’t help on the ice why put me there.

 

SB: Well speaking of your performance can you explain what has happened this season?

BS: I honestly have no idea I am putting in 110% at training and always give it a red hot crack, but it seems that lately I haven’t been able to get the puck in the net.

 

SB: Well it is not only your points that have suffered it seems like you aren’t playing as much of a physical game as you use to why is that?

BS: I have been focusing on trying to do more with the puck and less with my body. The fact that I haven’t been producing in the offensive zone has really affected me mentally and I am constantly worried about performing.

 

SB: So you haven’t been producing much on the ice but also the opposition rarely score when you are playing, most games you finish with a +/- of 0 at the worst have you been focusing on your defensive play?

BS: Yes I always focus on the defensive side of play you need to get the puck back and up the ice to score, and the less goals they score the easier it is to win. My first GM in the VHLM Jerry Garcia taught me the value of being strong defensively. So even though I am not scoring I am happy that I don’t let in any goals.

 

SB: Expanding on that do you think you could get more time now you are getting better defensively, or do you have different plans to get back into the side?

BS: Well I am mainly annoyed that my shooting percentage has dropped under 5%. I have been and continue to work with Nixon our back up goalie. He wants more than the 8 starts he is getting, and I want to be able to snipe like I use to. So, I think we are a good team. After every practice I will shoot from 6 different spots on the ice until I get 5 in at each location. We keep a scoreboard I am trying to do it in as little shots as possible and Nixon is trying to make it take as long as possible. I am starting to improve a little bit.

 

SB: Well that is one way of doing it, what else are you working on?

BS: I have been talking to past players and coaches trying to learn as much as I can and to gain different training techniques so hopefully, I can get some ice time again.

 

SB: This has been rather insightful is there anything you want to tell your fans?

BS: Please don’t give up on me, I am trying as hard as I can to get on the ice and score goals. Your support is amazing, and I couldn’t do it without you. I have been in constant talks with the Seattle GM about my performance and I hope to be back scoring goals soon.
