#1) Boris the Forest @chillzone

The biggest TPE earner, the captain, the leading scorer. Boris has a rather large reputation inside the New York locker room, but I think he deserves even more recognition as one of the top players in the VHL today. Here’s why (and also why you should go vote him into the all star game if you haven’t already):

Game winners. He has 9 on a team with only 32 wins. No other player has scored a higher percentage of game winning goals out of total team wins than Boris. He is doing this despite really being the only player on New York that can consistently be counted on game-in and game-out to generate some offence. Of all playoff teams with a record better than New York, each team's second leading scorer is within 7 points of the leading scorer. In New York, Boris has 16 more points than the next (Kevin Foreskin). Even more, he is doing all of this while facing a tad of bad luck. His 362 shots place him 5th league wide but a lower than normal shooting percentage has kept him outside of the top 10 in goals scored.

Personal statistics aside and most importantly, Boris leads by example. He puts the work in to earn TPE, it appreciative of the hard effort his teammates put in and is just chill (pun intended) to deal with.

#2) Frederick Elmebeck @Elmebeck

Last season it was LeGrande and Flowers leading the blue line. This year its all Elmebeck. Dude should at least be considered in the vote for S69 most improved player (although going to be hard to beat another highly improved defenseman in Guillaume Fontenette). His 6 goals and 43 assists this season has been achieved with a rather balanced TPE build. Not only does he lead the New York defence in points, but he also leads them in blocks and short handed ice time. More importantly, he helps out in the locker room and is a big reason I think why NY got back on track this year after an ugly start. His separate duties assisting with the Saskatoon GM and with how well they are doing over there make him a no brainer unsung hero to me.

#3) Ryo Yamazuki II @Donno100

This rookie started hot. Like red hot. "Leading the rookie scorer race half way through the season" hot. Although he's cooled off a bunch recently in stats, he is still putting in the work and taking feedback constantly on how to improve his build. His points per 20 of 0.57 ranks him third on the team. He also does most of this at even strength, which just shows what type of player he could become. Another good pick by GM Esso and one that I think is really going to make the S68 class for New York look like one of the best in recent history.

#4) Thorvald Gunnarsson @Saelven88

Last but not least, it just has to be the backup goalie. It can’t be easy being a backup goalie in the VHL but Thor is one of my favourites. I played with him on Halifax when he was the starter and now having him be backup on NY has shown me that he’s still the same guy Always happy to see the team win, whether he’s helping between the pipes or not. Kudos to all the backups out there but especially ours.
