Season 42 VHL Entry Draft

Round 1, Pick 3: Hans Wingate @CowboyinAmerica

Round 1, Pick 9: Michael Clardy @mpclardy

Round 2, Pick 12: Chuck Goody @Nike

Round 2, Pick 19: Roland Rengel @Kyle

Round 2, Pick 20: Kewl Runnins @Taurus

Round 3, Pick 22: Ryan Carlson @mrt3991

Round 3, Pick 27: Holy The Goalie @Mahoogany

Round 3, Pick 30: Dennis Saad @Sirmore

Calgary made a lot of picks in this draft but only one really stood out above the rest, that is Hans Wingate being taken 3rd overall, he was passed on by New York for Etwaun Delicious and Bronson Faux. Safe to say the New York Americans and Riga Reign regret those picks. Other than Hans, this draft class was one that was totally forgettable, not much star power but plenty of depth pieces.

Trades (Regular Season):

To YTzfe5K.png
(S40) D - Ed Grr

To StPYNLI.png
S44 CGY 3rd (Forfeited)

Calgary Wranglers GM: Austin Gow @eaglesfan036
Toronto Legion GM: Tyler Edgar @Edgar

This trade was nothing much to right home about, Grr got under 20 points while Toronto didn't end up using the draft pick they got in the trade.

Season 43 Regular Season - 72 GP | 15 W | 53 L | 4 OTL | 34 P | 102 GF | 236 GA

The Wranglers ended up getting even worse than they were in Season 42. Rami Jakobsson proved his worth though after being acquired for a bag of chips says former GM Austin Gow who traded for him. He led the team in scoring with 65 points. Marcus Hurley continued to be a consistent player for the Wranglers since being drafted putting up 61 points including another 30 goal season. King Czar and Jaime Hill put up 41 and 32 points from the backend while Ed Grr put up 16 points but was more of a defensive defenseman with 200+ hits and 150 SB. The only reason one might think the Wranglers weren't even worse than this is because of Hans Wingate. The rookie goalie put up a 15-46-4 record with an incredible 0.912 save percentage. He also had a shutout in 20% of his wins with 3. Overall, this team could get better in every aspect except goalie. The Wranglers finished with 34 points on the year which was last in the VHL.

Season 43 Playoffs - N/A

The Wranglers did not qualify for the Playoffs in Season 43.

Trades (off-season):

o YTzfe5K.png
(S39) RW - Jackson Miller
(S40) C - Tyler Cote

To StPYNLI.png
S45 CGY 1st (G Ryan Price)
S46 CGY 2nd (D Zach Voss)

Calgary Wranglers GM: Austin Gow
Toronto Legion GM: Sachimo Zoidberg @Jala

To YTzfe5K.png
(S41) D - Nicklas Karlsson

To qA3LVOO.png
(S40) D - King Czar III
S46 CGY 3rd (RW Jayden Fasth)

Calgary Wranglers GM: Austin Gow
Seattle Bears GM: Mitch Higgins @Higgins

Continuing into the off-season, the Wranglers GM decided he didn't want to be bad anymore and sung for the fences in a deal that acquired Jackson Miller and Tyler Cote for a S45 CGY 1st and a S46 CGY 2nd, which meant that Gow was betting on himself to not be as bad as they were in his first two seasons of gming (30 wins in 144 games). Nicklas Karlsson was also brought in for King Czar III and a S46 CGY 3rd in terms of depth moves, this was an upgrade.

Awards:

N/A

Overall:

Marcus Hurley continues to quietly climb the all time points leaderboard with 221 points, he becomes the 20th player to break 200 career points. Everyone else has under 72 points. Hans Wingate begins his ascension to top goalie but is now just 9th in wins with 14. His save percentage puts him in a tie with Rock Star at 8th. Overall, the Wranglers are a young team but in the 23 seasons since their dominating beginning, have been kind of middling.

but looking at your trading record, you kind of rip people off. have like this sense of when picks are going to be worthless and pick up decent depth players or top line VHLers. to get Miller and Cote for a 1st and a 2nd? nice. looking at what those picks became? it becomes even better. your timing was impeccable.

S44 remains one of my most entertaining  seasons in VHL history. Certainly my best with Miller.
