Part 12

Welcome back to another edition of The Music of the VHL! It’s been a while since our last part, but we are back again, this time heading to the mystical land of Toronto, Canada, where we take a look at a borderline playoff team looking to rebrand and rebuild itself under new GM @Peace

Toronto Legion
YYZ (Live) by Rush

Little known fact (or perhaps well known fact, depending on who you ask), YYZ is the code for the Toronto Pearson airport, the primary airport serving the Toronto metropolitan region; the region where legendary prog-rock band Rush cut their teeth. In this vein, we have chosen YYZ, the song, to represent this illustrious franchise. The Legion have a longstanding history of high performance, something they have in common with Rush, who was active from 1968 until 2015.

Toronto are in a bit of a pickle. An aging core, along with few draft picks, meant that they were in for a rough rebuilding period. Currently on their roster they have mostly depth players, with their highest TPA player Nethila Dissanayake @nethi99 sitting at just 505 TPA. Although it appeared the plan was initially to blow up the roster, sending the likes of franchise centerpieces Tzuyu @tfong and JB Rift @Devise, among other stars, out for picks, they have since shipped a large amounts of picks to HC Davos in exchange for a host of prospects, somewhat known quantities rather than waiting for the draft. Only time will tell how that decision will play out for the Legion, but for now, we can only wait and see. They have started off the season strong for their position, but with reigning champions Seattle on a win streak biting at their heels, we will see how long they maintain playoff position.

Just sit back and enjoy the music.
