Here at VHLM Watch Dogs, we've been eyeing the development of prospect Heinz Gunnarsson for some time now - knowing fully well it was only a matter of time before teams throughout the League reached out to the up-and-comer in search of a worthwhile signing to their clubs. We managed to catch up the Haligonian fresh out of his public announcement where he spoke up about the offers on the table and ultimately the reasoning behind his decision.

"It was a pretty easy decision on my end," he told our reporter-on-scene Butch Cromwell. "Halifax and it's people have already provided me with so much opportunity in my life - I think it's only fair I do as much as I can to return the favour and make it worthwhile for everyone."

Discussions slowly drifted towards what other offers there might have been on the table and while hesitant to relay all the details that were hashed out on the negotiating table, the Free Agent did share with us what he could.

"There were some good offers, I won't lie," Gunnarsson admitted with a modest shrug. "Ice time is always something you look forward to, and when it is offered it is really hard to say no. You want to get out there on the ice and make a difference for your team and your fans. One thing I knew going into these negotiations was that I wanted to be someone out there making that difference - whether it was the first pairing or the second. I figured it might as well be for my hometown crowd."

Although Gunnarsson made no comment on the teams which sought him out, VHLM Insiders went on to report that the offers which reached him included the likes of the obvious Halifax 21st, the Yukon Rush and the newest expansion team, the Miami Marauders. All of these teams have been struggling in the VHLM Standings in Season 72, with total points sitting at 33, 33 and 32 respectively. Without a doubt these teams were looking to mix things up on their defense and tighten up the scoring opportunities in their end - and in signing Gunnarsson the Halifax 21st are hoping to have done just that along with reinvigorate their lackluster offense this year in the process. As for the Haligonian himself, it was evident that no matter where he signed it would be an uphill battle - something that he appeared confident in handling.

"Anybody out there skating will tell you it's all for the love of the game Butch. Are we as a team going to have to put the work in? Of course, and I am looking forward to doing that with my new teammates - guys like Brendan Rose and Hex Valentine - putting in 100% every night they go out there. Can't wait to go all out tooth and nail with guys like those breaking their backs."

Inevitably our time with Heinz Gunnarsson came to an end, and we were left watching the young man get picked up by his mother in her Prius as he left our downtown location.

From us here at VHLM Watch Dogs, we'll be keeping a close eye out on this prospect's progress.

"Keep it clean, keep it classy."
