Smarch 3,153
Low just wants to focus on hockey During the last week New York Americans captain Conner Low has heard his name on VHL airwaves being brought up when the topic turns to players “trending down.” That coupled with personal issues the young defenseman has gone through in the past month, Low has been making hockey a personal getaway of sorts. We all know that the professionals in the VHL take their job very seriously, with Low was no exception until his recent absence from Americans practise this past week. Low missed Americans practice for the first time since being drafted by the club back in the Season Thirty-Five VHL Entry Draft, with the club citing a personal leave of absence from the club for the reason for Low being a no show last week. Low flew back home to be with his family last week returning to New York yesterday afternoon in time for the Americans home and home series against Seattle. Low didn't have a huge impact in the club’s recent 3-1 record, but if you ask the other’s on the roster they were glad to see number thirty-four back patrolling the blue-line. Low talked to the media for the first time since leaving the club after a recent loss to Riga and surprisingly talked retirement. “The first time since I stepped onto the ice when I was a young kid I really just enjoyed playing hockey,” Low said. “ As you grow older you start to really realize the toll that playing professional hockey has on your personal life. I understand how privileged I am to play the game I love and get paid, but at the same time you have to step back one day and look at the big picture and hockey is really a small part of that big picture,” Low added. A two time recipient of the Sterling Labatte Trophy for the league’s top defenseman you would think Low would be ecstatic coming to the rink, but that doesn't seem to be the case at this very moment. “ My first two years in the league as an American have been great, but over the course of the current season, it’s become really hard to come to the rink and shut out the outside distractions. I just want to get back to focusing on hockey,” Low said before excusing himself from the media scrum. Even though Low has been experiencing some tough times in his personal life, you would have never guessed it until his leave of absence from the club. Low has been experiencing another stellar year on the blue-line putting up sixty-four points in forty-seven games, to go along with solid defensive stats in all three major categories. With playoff hockey fast approaching for the Americans, management is giving Low all the time he needs now to deal with his situation in hopes that he will return with an improved focus come post-season time. Molholt 2,185
Content: 3/3 - Interesting opinions from one of the league's best. I know the Americans will be sad to see him go when he does, but I don't think it'll happen just yet! Grammar: /2 - Couple of minor things in the opening, but it improved after that - with Low was no exception -> Low was no exception practise -> practice with the club citing a personal leave of absence from the club for the reason for Low being a no show last week -> with the club citing personal reasons as to his leave of absence the previous week. Appearance: 1/1 - I quite like the smaller team bars/images as it breaks up the copy, but doesn't bog down the article.Overall: 6/6 Claim: 6 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/8997-claimedno-flow/#findComment-83750 Share on other sites
