rory 1,916
ESPN.mx - Rory O'Connor took the media scramble this evening following Mexico City's 7-2 route of the San Diego Marlins. Alabaster Slim and O'Connor took over the team mid-S73, and taken a team with little to no immediate upside into playoff hopefuls. Starting the S73 dispersal draft with only the ninth overall pick, they made various moves to enter the draft in the later rounds, ending with right wing RJ Thatcher @jhatty8, center Chris Foley @Firekiss, and defenseman Taizo Hasebe @thepandaken. Regarding the draft, O'Connor said: "We obviously had a couple of guys we had on our board. We really wanted to get a good team in front of Emerson @Xflexz and Thatcher and his son, Rodney, were a key part of our group of mercenaries last season. A couple of our guys went a few earlier then we had anticipated but we got Foley back, another important part for the squads culture. I've had history with Taizo's agent and I could see him becoming important for our push. We're hoping we can re-motivate him to reach his full potential, but time will tell." Following the draft, Mexico City signed several players to VHLM deals to fill the roster. Wingers Mando Blatsyuk @Hblatsyuk, Fongs Son @Elijah (Fong's Son), and Mexico's own Ramarod Ramirez @Ominous. "The forward pickups are great. We're always scouting leagues across the world, looking for people with VHLM skill and dedication. Blatsyuk from Britain is a phenomenal scoring forward, and is responsible the d-zone. Mexico City has had good history with British scoring forwards and we're hoping he can become like Hylands. Ramirez is kind of a local legend, and it shows that the VHLM's presence in Mexico has been a success. He's well rounded. I could see him getting a solid 60 points this season. Fongs Son is great. Very receptive to the front offices advice. He seems like a guy who can pot 100 points in a good season. Hope Emerson and him get along - they'll be dominating here and in Vancouver.""Defensively, we obviously also signed IAmMarkour @Markour. Good stay-at-home dman who can join in on the rush when we need it. Couple of great breakout passes set up Foley and Thatcher tonight and I think that shows his offensive upside. Kid needs to bulk though. 6'4 and only 150 pounds. Pretty funny, like a gentle giant. I see shades of Kamenov in him, but with less Putin." As the squad battles for the third seed in the west, O'Connor said that the team will focus on getting more young talent through the waiver program to bolster their roster their depth and continue the developmental nature of the minor league. "Mexico City has a solid history of waiver players becoming key parts for cup runs. Hylands, Pines, and Kamenov were essential parts to stopping the bleeding in S71 and really carried the squad to the first franchise cup finals. Theirs a couple of names here that could easily become those players, and hopefully better." With that, O'Connor continues rambling for an hour about the legendary S72 Mexico City cup run. Members of the media slowly file out, and the planned appearances from Thatcher, Foley, IAmMarkour and Ramirez were cancelled despite their 3 point performances. jRuutu 2,464
Review: Fun article, I especially liked the little scouting reports on each player and the history part about past teams and the success Mexico has had with waiver players. The only thing I can think of is maybe adding a picture on it or spicing the quotes/text with some color, but other than that - great work! 9.5/10!
