Phantoms Streak Into Playoff Spot

Following a season-high five-game win streak, the Prague Phantoms stumbled going 3-5-1 in their next nine games. Then rookie backup John Poremba caught fire just as Woody McPine had during the five-game streak. Only Poremba did one better and led the Phantoms to a six-game win streak before it was abruptly halted by a 7-0 loss to Malmo.

The streak, though, was epic.

Prague plowed through Los Angeles (twice), Riga, Davos, D.C., and Toronto to firmly take their place among the playoff contenders and now currently sit in 4th place in the European Conference – their highest placing this season.

Once again, the Phantoms received contributions from everyone in the lineup with veteran blueliner Cinnamon Block leading the way with three goals and seven assists during the streak. The chemistry between rookie winger Dan Baillie Jr and savvy center Dagmar Havlova was on display as well as the line mates each picked up eight points with DBJ’s five goals tops on the team through the six games.

But the highlight of the streak was the coming out party of John Poremba. Having only appeared in five career games prior to the run, the 5’ 10” American puck stopper was in the zone, posting a 0.938 SV% and 2.00 GAA while facing 32 shots a game. He received the 1st Star of the Game in the 2-1 victory over the D.C. Dragons where he stopped all but one of the 29 shots he faced.
