A Puzzling Acquirement

As the season continues to roll along, the league leading Halifax 21st have found themselves signing rookie goaltender Thadius Sales and placed him as their backup goaltender. Puzzled by this move, fans have found themselves asking one question, "Why?"

When you look at the statistics behind the Halifax 21st organization, it seems as though a backup goaltender is the last thing they need. Not only have they won 89% of their regular season games, they are still in the single digits when it comes to that L column. With that, the stats for Halifax goaltender Kevin Malone are astounding:

44GP, 39-4-1, 0.921SV%, 1.42GAA, 14SO, 794SA

This recent acquiring of Thadius Sales is certainly not motivated by a desire to replace the league leading goaltender Malone. So, who is Thadius Sales, and why is he here?

Who is Thadius Sales?

On the surface, Sales seems to be your average guy. Coming into the game late at 27, he seems to have a mysterious past that he isn’t all too open about, however, after pressing a bit we were able to get some more information out of him.

Here’s what he had to say:

Quote

I’m excited to play for Halifax. I never thought I’d get this chance, but here we are.

After some time in the clink I decided to clean up my act, get on the straight and narrow, and lace up the skates again.

Now you may be wondering what got me in prison. I’m not too proud of it, but I stole. And I robbed. And I kidnapped the president’s son. And held him for ransom.
And I nevah got caught, neither.

I know some of you are curious about what the worst part of prison was, and you know what, the worst thing about prison was the Dementors. They were flying all over the place, and they were scary. And they’d come down, and they’d suck the soul out of your body, and it hurt!

That was when I was known as Michael Scott, or in the clink, Prison Mike.

When Halifax approached me after watching my highlight reel, I agreed to sign with them only If they allowed me to go by a new name, Thadius Sales.

Now, here we are.

A Charitable Move
After finding out more about Sales it seems that his acquiring by Halifax was not because of a need for another goaltender, it seems to have been a charitable move. Halifax has shown the VHLM and the VHL that they are willing to do something that many organizations are not, hire an ex-felon. While it is unclear whether or not Thadius Sales actually went to prison, since he said he “nevah got caught,” this move has garnished much respect for the Halifax organization.

There are currently no statistics available regarding Sales’ experience in front of the net, so it can only be assumed that his highlight reel showed something very special that impressed the Halifax front office.

Now, for the rest of us, it’s only a matter of time before we see what Sales has to offer on the ice.
