EYES SET ON SEATTLE

Phoenix Dawson meets with media post-game to discuss the looming S76 VHL Entry Draft

MIAMI, FL -- When Phoenix Dawson was selected with the 77th-overall pick in the VHLM Dispersal Draft, there weren't many expectations for the rookie. Now, with the VHL Entry Draft approaching, Dawson seems to be in a position where he is willing to put his intentions out there.

"I want to be a Seattle Bear," Dawson opened up with. "I have had conversations with my player agent and I feel like that is a team that suits me. They have an opening and I am someone who can be a core part of a team well into the future."

Seattle is in an interesting transition period with Kris Rice staring down retirement. One of the strongest S74 players in Isabella Campbell will be the one to step into that hole, but after that... Seattle is looking at a position where it can use some improvement.

Phoenix Dawson is likely to be a 2nd-round pick in the upcoming draft. While his practice hours are ranking at around 15th in the class, there may be some doubt as the Toast Player Agency had a rough break up with the league back in the S50s and has failed to bring in a quality player since then. Steven Smyl, Toast's most recognizable player and former general manager, joined Dawson for the press conference.

"If Blake Campbell hadn't sent me a random message in the off-season, I don't think I would have gotten the spark back to find an up-and-coming player," said Smyl. "It was based off that one message that I was able to connect with Phoenix and bring in one of the brightest prospects S76 has to offer."

S76 is a strong draft without a doubt, but when it comes to the centers, Phoenix Dawson may be the best of them all. Quickly gaining in practice hours on Hex Rose and Jivere Zolnek, Dawson could be the top center available on draft night. Looking back at Seattle, while Kyl Oferson is a very strong player, there doesn't seem to be much in the prospect pool for centers and the Bears could be eyeing Phoenix with their S76 first rounder.

"We haven't had any communication with Blake since he got us back to the league," assured Smyl. "I am only endorsing Seattle to Phoenix as a 'Thank You' for getting my heart back into the VHL. I have a history here as it was my first ever VHL team and it would be nice to go back to where it all started."

"I am looking forward to finding my VHL home," said Dawson. "I'm open to all destination but right now... Seattle seems like it would be a natural fit. While that may not work out come draft night, I definitely see myself wearing a Bears jersey at some point in my career."

"Rice has been a huge part of my development in Miami. With all of these reasons adding up, it's hard to deny that this would be a preferred destination for me."

With such a strong statement coming out of this press conference, be sure to keep an eye out for any updates as this is sure to shake up the draft scene as we get closer to the off-season.
