Yes you do, so 5 TPE - link to this post instead.

You’re likelier to face Moscow in the playoffs I reckon.

Vancouver going for it with a sophomore goalie, interesting.

Lol great vote of confidence. You saying the best player was drafted third overall this time too? Am intrigued as to whether Riga needed to trade up if they were going off the board anyway, surely Tate would have been around at third?

First overall got me shook.

My OCD wanted three picks in a row.

Not something I created yet and might be a bit more difficult to do retrospectively (what with 17 seasons missing), but I'll put in on the list, might be something that tickles my fancy one day.

Facts and bits about the S66 playoffs - even more Helsinki

It was one of your posts that got me looking at that tbf, but still weird. Tukio and Clegane both had to go to Quebec and had unreal seasons there but both won cups in Helsinki and nowhere else. -
Facts and bits about the S66 playoffs - even more Helsinki
Victor posted a topic in VHL.com Articles
Helsinki won the cup with 12 players, 10 of which were drafted by Helsinki – an all-time record. The only Titans not there since draft day were Thompson and Bailey, the latter solely because he wasn't drafted at all. I've not yet released the spreadsheet which shows this ranking, but the record previously belonged to S55 Helsinki who had 9 draftees + Shayne Gow who was drafted by the Titans, then was traded and returned later on. Quik was excited about the S63 draft from the day it concluded, and that made up the core of the team, but the longest serving player on Helsinki was actually drafted by Higgins in S62 (Dan Montgomery) @BarzalGoat – that sort of transition from contending cycle to contending cycle, from GM to GM, is partially why the Titans are the model franchise of the last few decades. Odd tidbit, but despite the above model franchise chat, Helsinki hasn't had a goalie win the Shaw Trophy since before it was called the Shaw Trophy – Jakob Kjeldsen was the last Titan to be crowned top goaltender, back in S23 when Shaw was still active. The Titans have had lots of fine goalies since then, including Astrid Moon and the Hall of Famers Tuomas Tukio and Greg Clegane, but none of these won the Shaw in their time in Helsinki. So big chance for Pepper at the awards ceremony later this week. @Sonnet -
Doing some of my VHL history updates and have picked up some interesting points about the playoffs just gone. As I mentioned in Game 4 of the finals, Helsinki won the cup with an 8-1 record. Only one team has ever done that before, being S19 Calgary, which some might remember as a trivia question in the last couple of seasons or @Quik might remember since he was on the team with me. It's odd that this Helsinki team was the one to match that long-standing record, since on paper they weren't an exceptional cup winner, but it helped that Europe was much stronger than North America and Davos collapsed in the conference finals. There have only been six finals sweeps in VHL history, but two have happened in the last three seasons. As above, Helsinki wouldn't have been the first name to pop into my head as likely candidates, although still more likely than S64 Toronto. Also, the last time there were two sweeps in three seasons, the second of those was S19 Calgary. Weird. Going back to Davos, normal VHL logic states that they should have probably won the cup in S66 based on having, on paper, the best offence in the league. It didn't quite work out and god knows what they're doing this off-season. However, shoutout to Finn Davison @Poptart who put up a .960 save percentage in the sweep of Riga, saving 95 of 99 shots fired at him*. That does mean that Riga managed less than 25 shots per game, quite an offensive collapse for them. The only comparable that comes to mind is when Cologne, after securing a bye to the second round in S40, was eliminated in about 3 hours and took just 72 shots in 4 games. Riga's goalie, Mike Szatkowski Jr., allowed just 6 goals but didn't make the spreadsheet below that Davison now graces. ** https://vhlforum.com/topic/35246-greatest-goaltending-performances-in-single-playoff-series/ * you could call this Davison's "Callum Sinclair" performance @solas - let's see if he can repeat it in future seasons unlike Sinclair and have his Shawn Brodeur @TheLastOlympian07 performance eventually - Davos needs it. ** It does also say something about Davos in the next round that Davison's save % then collapsed to .917 – yikes.

1. ? I've pulled the trigger now even though I think it's a season too soon but the opportunity arose. It was always my intention to look to start contending by S68 and that is still probably our more realistic shot. 2. Not to take the easy route out, but no, I don't think so. My main attribute was getting shit done quickly which wasn't always the case previously, and I think the current guys get through what they need to in good time. There's some behind the scenes stuff I'd improve, especially documentation around the portal, which concerns me a bit but I'm not involved enough to do anything about it. 3. That's an interesting question, I think I wondered that to myself a couple times. I don't know to be honest, it probably planted the idea in my head, but most importantly I never truly left, I kept lurking and I was more waiting for the league to get back to its old levels than anything else. 4. Hypothetical TPE for a hypothetical question. 5. I don't think so, not off the top of my head, granted it has been about 10 years. I've definitely overstayed online doing something silly like trying to finish trade negotiations, but I've never cancelled on actual plans or anything like that. 6. I don't think there's any good direct comparison between hockey and football, but at one point it would have definitely been Quebec - not much liked, preferring to buy success. Nowadays, not sure there is a Chelsea in the league. 7. Reading this question alongside the next one, my mind immediately goes to Jardy. It's probably him other than the fact he is less fallen now because he briefly reappeared, but nah still Jardy. 8. Despite that, I don't think he will. You can't write it off but I think his departure was so gradual, over so many years, that there's no need for him to come back because it just stopped being part of his routine. 9. What next expansion team? ? 10. Ooh, could probably write an article on choosing this. Just gonna do a quick CTRL+F through my Davos trades to see if any stick out. Having had a quick look, I think it's a toss-up between any of the trades that got me Landry, Jones, Baker, and J. Olsen (3 trades in total). All reasonably fair value but all seemed whack at the time because they weren't superstars but helped build up a core of S33-S35 players which then made 4 straight finals. Jones trade probably takes it because I beat Helsinki in a direct bidding war and then beat Helsinki en route to the cup in S36.

Well that's it for S66. Last trivia results of the season, with end of season TPE to follow. First, week 7 answers: 1. Which goalie achieved the highest save percentage for a rookie goaltender? (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @Jtv123) There's been a few fine rookie performances through the years, but no one's topped Benoit Devereux's .936 save percentage set back in S10. There was even talk of him being the first goalie to be crowned MVP despite playing for a distinctly average Avangard team. Instead, that had to wait until Daisuke Kanou in S21, while Aidan Shaw swooped in to take the name of the top goalie trophy - Devereux had to eventually settle for the VHLM award being named after him. 2. How many shots on goal did the S58 VHLM MVP take that season? (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @Jubo07) A bit of random one but hey, trivia is trivia. Adam Warlock, eventual curse-breaker with Davos and back-to-back champion with Toronto, was VHLM MVP back in S58 thanks in large part to a shoot-first mentality which generated 894 shots that season. 2 capped TPE goes to: Matt_O @Matt_O Beaviss @Beaviss GRZ @GRZ Snussu @Snussu Jubo07 @Jubo07 FerdaJets @FerdaJets chillzone @chillzone HenrikZoiderberg @HenrikZoiderberg Josh. @Josh. Added a column for that - only 5 of the 33 have no HOF players. But I feel like it's more HOF players are the product of a builder's activity generally, rather than vice versa.

After two seasons of exponential growth, Moscow officially got bored this off-season and traded for Podrick Cast and Randoms. Moscow also got a first overall pick for the second year in a row, this time despite not finishing last, but traded it anyway because first overall picks are well known to be cursed and as the saying goes it is quantity over quality, always, definitely. Moscow is jetlagged and that might have had a serious impact on its decision-making ability. But then with a $45 million salary cap, everything is possible. Even performing better than Helsinki and Riga in the European Conference. That's assuming Davos is going to be worse than in S66. What even is Davos doing this off-season? Is this a vanity project? How am I going to juggle 30 forwards on 4 lines? I don't know but I'm sure it will all fall into place. It's time to stop fucking around, Moscow is in the big time now.
