Black Velvet says repeat would trigger VHL golden age
Victor replied to Higgins's topic in VHL.com Articles
Life goals: make Black Velvet physically sick. -
But defence means nothing in the VHL. Especially in the ASG.

Week 4 is now open! From now on I will start including the following disclaimer: No question ever asked in VHL Trivia requires the use of season indexes. Anyway, number 1 to 4. PM. Me. Go.

I am quite confident this episode will be the equivalent of Blackwater (S2E9) and the battle at the Wall (S4E9). As for deaths, unfortunately I expect only Ramsay will be one I'm looking forward, with 3-4 others cancelling it out.

You have only your GM aspirations to blame!

Not really. All they saw were dragon skulls in the throne room and as Tywin once said to Joffrey, the smallest ones were the size of his fist or something. So to them dragons were an extinct myth which failed at coming back before.

We would have played in different periods anyway, might as well combine forces for once. Our time will come.

It's trade deadline day and to be honest, it's likely to be another non-event. Seattle has traded off most players of value and all five buying teams, the ones hoping to play in the S49 finals, have 1.5 million in cap space or less. For once though, that's not a bad thing, because Season 49 has been very active in the trade market, ridiculously so. A whopping 14 trades have taken place this season, much more than anyone could have predicted in pre-season. There were a few selling trades involving Stockholm and Helsinki which were lined up before the season started for cap purposes and things got a bit more interesting when Davos had to find suitors for the disgruntled Bobby Digital and Tobias Klingberg. But the market heated up when two key events happened: Seattle decided to pull the plug while in fourth place, while Davos decided to go for it in the weakest European Conference ever. In the end, we have a seriously stacked top three in North America and an actually interesting battle between Cologne and Davos in Europe. As for that total of 14, well that appears to be a VHL record. No other season (not including off-seasons) has seen this many trades occur while games were being played. The peak post-expansion came in Season 39 with 11 trades, mainly the result of Vasteras and Riga trying to win a cup (Davos got into the finals without making any moves). This was followed by 10 trades in S40 as Quebec, Helsinki and Riga (successfully this time) got some rental players. Before expansion, there were less teams and for a long time little incentive to wait until midseason to trade (mandatory percentages only came in after S22). Only two seasons had got to double digits before S31, with 10 in S21 and S6. Good job GMs for making Season 49 interesting and already record-breaking!

Taking part in the draft made me realise the dearth of defencemen in the VHL as well as how timely the switch to this ASG format was - imagine EU vs NA this season.

old winners* and no we need at least someone around from each champion.

I think we've moved away from the point. Doubt anyone could argue Robert wasn't the best of the four but you called him underrated. Don't think anyone is saying he was a complete disaster of a thing or if they do, it's qualified by referring to the even bigger disaster that everything else is. Robert is rated quite reasonably imo.

Updated with the second mag article - third one coming in the next couple days. Another rundown through the still active members involved: S35 Quebec @Mr. Power as Rift and then @Higgins as Tukio. @Frank also featured as he sold his soul to Quebec. Seems like one last hurrah for the likes of Jericho, Kyle, Boragina, Koradek, and sherifflobo. S12 Seattle, and S17 Seattle @Beketov was part of both. Beketov of course winning the Mikita which is now the Beketov. Then he was Alex Young, one of his now 4 goalies in 40 seasons! @Streetlight, @gregreg, and @Smarch all made an appearance on S17. As did @sterling of course, with Jonsson being the standout player in those 3 seasons. Little remains of S12. Sandro, Ball, and McNeil were part of S12 and lasted with Seattle for a while longer, Sandro GMing S17 as well. S6 Helsinki Firstly, @Higgins get the retired banners for Lenny and Schneider damn it! Scotty, Brooks, Zero, Cowboy, among this star-studded squad which is no longer with us. I think the lone survivor is @TheLastOlympian07 who was probably inactive at the time. S26 Vasteras @Phil and @sterling were the key curse breakers here. @.sniffuM just starting up on his best player, Tuuuuuka. S15 Helsinki Quik, Kyle, bobbylu, Edgar, Ray Funk, all gone. But @tfong is still going!
