Bana is too cute for me to ping. My tiers of pinging are predicated on cuteness - if you're pretty cute, you don't get pinged. If you're next-level cute, you get ALL the pings from me @GustavMattias.

Hackett has CT scan, reveals implanted passing/scoring converter

Obligatory tag of @Nykonax because he deserves an explanation for Apollo's bad passes, though I already know he replied. Also @GustavMattias because of course -
Riga, Latvia - Apollo Hackett's season just got a little weirder. After unexplained, ear-splitting headaches in the weeks following Riga's Continental Cup Finals loss to the Seattle Bears, Apollo went to his doctor, who ordered scans and urgently referred Hackett to the emergency room. Wisely, the Riga 1st Hospital obtained a CT scan of the defenseman's head, revealing a pair of what appear to be tiny wires and an electrode attached to a portion of his brain called the basal ganglia, which are responsible for filtering and carrying out movement 'programs' for your body. "Thankfully, Mr. Hackett has given us permission to discuss this case with the greater public. Sometimes, we'll see very similar configurations of wires experimentally for eliciting speech from those with aphasias, an inability to comprehend language or speak, " noted neurologist Valters Karstais who provided the schematic for one such device included at the end of this article. "In this case, it seems as though Mr. Hackett has one that, based on very targeted testing, force him to make a slapshot-style motion towards a normal goal-shaped and sized object in place of passing," he continued. "It's baffling, and very intricate. I'm not sure we presently, even in the medical community, firmly understand how this technology was developed. We'll need to keep him for further testing over the off-season, which may limit his ability to practice with his teammates - ultimately, we're still debating whether to test a large-scale removal of the device, which our neurosurgeons deem quite risky, or simply do observational tests. We're not sure of the long-term impact of the device."

oh right press conference questions are a thing remember you only have to answer 6 to get the full 2 TPE for the week as usual! 1. Which new draft pick is most likely to make an immediate impact on their team? 2. Which player is the steal of the S71 draft? Can't pick any new Reign members! 3. Seattle has a team of very active players, mostly from Season 67 -- which means none of them have faced regression yet. But it also means their salaries will keep getting higher based on the TPE scale and they're already at the cap; how will they deal with that? 4. Who's the suavest player on the team? 5. The boss is always sleeping. What's the weirdest thing that's happened that he never knew about? 6. Who are your front-runners for Most Improved Player next season? 7. Who do you think the next Davos GM will be/(if already selected) what do you think of the new GM selection? 8. All I ever see in trades are players and draft picks. What's one weird thing you'd like to see brought to the table for trades?

Riga, Latvia - After being asked in the middle of the Riga-Seattle series what he'd do in Free Agency last week, Hackett was largely non-committal but re-affirmed his loyalty to Riga. Some 96 hours ago, he re-upped on this statement -- and on his contract with the Reign. For him, it was something of a relief, as he was just days from hitting free agency for the first time in his career. "Glad to be back in orange," Hackett said, all smiles at the most recent Riga press conference, "we have incredibly promising young guys, and I get to stick with my promise to reward the team that took a risk on me in the draft. The guys from the most recent drafts deserve a veteran player that can show them how the league works -- and while I can't promise I'll be the best role model in that respect, I can guarantee I'll do everything in my power to give them the best possible experience. Ben[jamin Zeptenbergs, Riga GM], I'm on as long as you'll have me." Others around the league, anticipating Hackett's availability after four consecutive years with the same franchise, weren't quite as excited about the prospect of the defenseman returning. Multiple players on North American and European teams alike lamented his decision to sit out of free agency -- thereby all but zeroing out chances that he'd be able to play with his Season 66 classmates. In one popular video circulating around Twitter, New York's General Manager could only manage the following: "damm"

1. What's the most intriguing trade from this off-season? 2. (if free agency has started) What's the most surprising signing you've seen so far? 3. (if it hasn't started) Which player are you most surprised about going to free agency so far? 4. Who's the most important re-signing from this off-season? 5. Aside from us, based on current team situation who's most likely to make it to the finals next season? 6. We heard Apollo Hackett was arrested for allegedly jumping on someone else's Mercedes (yeah yeah, I know it's Julian Edelman) after losing to the Bears in the finals. Is it true? 7. If you could add one rule of your choice to hockey (ridiculous or realistic) what would it be? 8. We found, like, 20 rubber duckies on the locker room floor after one of your recent games. What gives? 9. Variety is the spice of life. What hobby or activity would you like to pick up this off-season? 10. Who's the most attractive person on this planet?
-
Even so - a first is still a first, and I'm excited to see what you can build even if you don't get 1OA in the next couple drafts.
-
Toronto getting a cap dump to start building their picks up again. Wouldn't be surprised if they're last or second-to-last the next couple of seasons, but they'll have a solid core from the next few drafts.

Incredibly happy to stay with Riga. @hedgehog337 has treated me well, and we have a record of overall success to show for it. My apologies to those of you that wanted to team up - especially my S66 classmates, as I know I'm now locked in through my 7th season. But I've still got plenty to prove, and loyalty to pay back to the team that drafted me.

Riga, Latvia - Reign defenseman Apollo Hackett faces pending free agency for the first time this off-season four games into a Finals matchup between Riga and Seattle. Though the team is clearly in the thick of an intense playoff race, post-game interviews have also yielded a number of questions surrounding the fourth-year player's fate after the series, which Hackett has generally been tight-lipped about. "Free agency and the off-season are irrelevant to me," Hackett commented shortly after a Game 4 loss to Seattle, "we're in the middle of a 2-2 series and you want to ask me about what team I'll go to? My focus is on winning Riga games, not contemplating a paycheck. I've been consistent in my stance since my rookie season: as you know, Riga drafted me, and my first instinct is repaying that loyalty. The team's success comes first, and free agency has nothing to do with that. We're on to Seattle. Next question." At present, Hackett is one of the league's highest-paid defensemen, and received his first All-Star Game selection towards the end of the regular season; there are no current leads suggesting whether he'll sign an extension with Riga or assess his value in free agency; rumors of suggested locations have, to this point, been entirely unsubstantiated. Since he's accrued 4 seasons of experience, he'll be an unrestricted free agent should he opt to test the waters.

1. How did you feel after our first finals game (the quadruple overtime one)? Did it affect how you played in game 2? 2. With (between 3 and 7) games now played in the finals, how do you feel about the results? 3. Which player do you think will redeem himself next season? 4. Which over-performing player do you think will come back down to Earth next season? 5. What's the most difficult part about playing post-season games? 6. How much do you care about World Cup and WJC games? 7. How could we improve off-season tournaments? Is there a way to make the Brand Tournament work? 8. Suppose there are 15 seconds left in Game 7 of the finals -- you can pick ONE player to pass the puck, and the other to shoot and score. Who do you choose? 9. Looking back on your draft, were you picked too high or too low? 10. Which of our players needs to step up most with the retirees leaving our team this season?
