  1. The long wait is over at last, one of the longest droughts seen in many years. The San Diego Marlins have won the S89 Founders Cup, the first time since S86. This means they had faced a whole 3 season drought. This span had tortured the poor San Diego fanbase. But still, the fans stayed loyal and they did not lose any season ticket holders. The S89 season was special to this Marlins squad, as it had a special group. Marlins Captain Sjin was the only member of both the S86 and S89 championship rosters. “It was great to finally break through and win it all. It was a huge relief.” Captain Sjin said. “We know the fans have been waiting a long time for this, we are only sorry we couldn’t get it done sooner after S86. Sjin concluded. The S89 off-season had many question marks surrounding the Marlins after a good S88 run. Only Sjin and Brad Marchand were returning. The Marlins would have to build through the draft despite not having a 2nd round pick. It is difficult to establish a core when you need to find a goaltender and address every other field. The Marlins went with a familiar face, defenseman Marty Byrd who was a critical waiver pickup in S88. It was expected by many, and San Diego was very pleased to get Marty back. Later in the 1st round the Marlins were also able to get fellow waiver hero Baby Moo Moo back! Moo Moo was the best forward for the Marlins in the S88 playoffs. In the 3rd round, Marlins GM Zach Arce got crafty and unconventional. He drafted goaltender Clark which shocked many. San Diego had spoken to Clark quite a few times prior to the draft and decided he was going to be their backbone in S89. The Marlins next selected in round 4 and chose Tyrece the beast to get some scoring help on the offensive front. Another unconventional move? Sure but Tyrece was on the rise at this point. In round 6, the move that really pushed the Marlins to contender status. The Marlins decided to roll some dice and selected forward Savaisk Tzesar who was on the fence of which league he’d play in. One conversation with Arce, and Tzesar was playing down for the Marlins! The Marlins headed into the season knowing it would be a difficult task with teams like Philadelphia, Houston and Mexico City competing with them. They had FIVE waiver pickups over the course of this incredible run. All of which played a big part of their run. They picked up three defensemen which gave them their 4 defensmen core in Vladimir Kozlov, Factor Lee and Joseph Dubois. They were also joined by forwards Eric White Jr. and Afonya Romanov, both showing very noticeable progress throughout the season. The Philadelphia Reapers established themselves as the #1 seed of the VHLM early on and got a very sizable led to secure that. San Diego battled all season long with Houston for the #2 seed and it came down to the last two games of the season. The result? The Marlins would finish 3rd overall by ONE point. Brad Marchand carried the team with a tied league lead of 99 points and leading 46 goals for the season. Meanwhile the team was able to rely heavily on goaltender Clark, who had a Devereux like season. In the playoffs, the Marlins would play a talented Halifax 21st team. It was uncertain who would win this series. The Marlins would take it in 5 games, but in a series much close than that number shows. There were 3 games in the series that could have gone either way. The difference? San Diego had Clark and Halifax didn’t. The Marlins then went on to book their ticket to the Founders Cup final after disposing Ottawa in 5 games as well! San Diego had success against Philadelphia in the regular season. But that means nothing, none of anything that happened during the regular season at this point. Philadelphia was not only the defending champs, they were the top seed. The Marlins were ready. They split both games in Philly 1-1. Games 3 and 4 would set the tone for the series. San Diego took both games! Both games could have gone either way. Clark shut the door. San Diego had the most difficult task now. Winning that final game against this Reapers team. They did it! Kozlov opened up the scoring, then Tyrece struck right after! The door would be closed by Baby Moo Moo. A 3-1 final, a champion was to be crowned! Clark with another stellar performance and this deserving Marlins squad was hoisting the cup. The team all worked so hard. Many players asking for Jody’s e approvals constantly, something every VHLM GM wants to see. The best and worst part? Many of these guys will move to the VHLE next season. Great because Arce has done his job to help players take the next step. Bitter because these players will be so missed. What lies ahead for the S90 Marlins? We will see after another mass team reset and a slew of draft picks!

To my Marlins, thank you for all your hard work this season! You all truly earned it, I just kept the ship steering in the direction. It was an awesome team and an awesome locker room. Let the discord fun begin!

    OV - Ronan Lavelle
  8. Moscow Menace forward Ronan Lavelle is coming off an S88 season where he led the VHL in points, capturing the Mike Szatkowski Trophy as well as the Brett Slobodzian Trophy for Most Outstanding Player. Lavelle entered S89 looking to add to his resume and elevate his game even more. He had to if he hopes to have any shot at any kind of HOF discussions. Entering the final game against the London United, Lavelle led Prague forward John Jameson by 1 point with Jameson having one game in hand. Lavelle knew he had to post up numbers to be able to repeat the Szatkowski. He also was 5 goals ahead of Jameson for the most goals which would land him the Kevin Brooks Trophy. Lavelle delivered. He scored 2 goals and setup his favorite line mate Tomas Sogaard as the Menace managed to clinch the Victory Cup with a convincing 4-2 victory against the London United. So far this is what Lavelle has on his resume: S82 Ronan Lavelle Trophy (VHLE MVP) S84 Dustin Funk Trophy S85 Continental Cup S85 Daisuke Kanou Trophy S88 Mike Szatkowski Trophy S88 Brett Slobodzian Trophy S89 Mike Szatkowski Trophy S89 Kevin Brooks Trophy Could Lavelle also add a Campbell and/or another Slobodzian? These would be huge additions to his resume. And if he could add another Kanou, that would just be huge. It also comes down to Lavelle’s final season in S90 and how that goes. He will need to eclipse the 700 mark to be hopeful. But when asked about them Lavelle just smirked and said “Personal awards are nice but there is only one piece of hardware I’m thinking about.” As he motioned towards the Continental Cup. “The only MVP trophy I’m interested in seeing in my showcase is another Kanou Trophy. None of this would have been possible if I didn’t have guys like Tomas Sogaard and Hammar Voss sharing the ice with me. We also have had the best goaltender in the league this season in Wallob. We will need him to stay on his game to win.” Lavelle concluded. We see Lavelle has his eye on the prize but from the outside of Lavelle adds another cup and potentially playoff MVP, the resume itself is impressive enough. He just needs to bulk up his point totals in S90. The Menace were the best team in the VHL in the S89 regular season, they’ve had a long and prosperous era of success since Euron Leonidas has been in office, they’ve done literally everything but win a cup. Lavelle’s tenure on the Menace has been successful during the regular season, however the team has had major hiccups in the postseason. This includes a S88 collapse where Moscow had a 3-1 series led on rival HC Davos and ended up losing the series. This season the Menace await who they will play after the Wildcard round. It is between the defending champion London United or always dangerous Prague Phantoms. This S89 team has the talent, can Lavelle bring his regular season success into helping Moscow in the postseason?

Who has been the biggest surprise of the season on the team? 6. Should we dedicate a shrine to Clark for filling in the big shoes in net?
  14. I definitely second this!
  15. The only decisions the VHL GM can have are calling up/send down to the league. VHLM Commish team still made Al the decisions, and the VHLM GM is still very much needed to manage the team, help the new members, and assure the success of their core. But this is the reality for AHL GMs/coaching. They manage the organizations prospects and are subject to having any of their players called up. This was something the league got rid of a while back, and I was a GM for Toledo when they were affiliated with Davos. We had the Davos prospects and I was able to sign any waivers/make trades. It’s all in good fun, and there’s a reason the league gravitated away from this system. But I always enjoyed the affiliation aspect of it comparing it to the NHL and it’s affiliates.
  16. Reading through these, I’ve seen some interesting ideas. Some very serious ones such as the typical “Delete the E” (which I agree with), even ones that call for deleting the VHLM! And of course the classic funny ones, giving certain members the ban hammer. I’ve seen the league go through many different eras, the rise and fall of many structures, and people come and go. I like bringing back some older ideas to bring into the current VHL era, and enhancing current ones. Keep in mind, this is all for fun. 1. Remove the VHLE as a middle league, and affiliate VHLM teams to VHL parebt teams. Long ago in a galaxy far, far away there was the VHLM and the VHL. Each VHL team has a VHLM affiliate. For example if you got drafted to the HC Davos Dynamo you were playing for their VHLM team as their prospect. So you would have been a member of the Toledo Scorpions. Remove the VHLE, have 16 teams in the M and each one is affiliated with the VHL team. Expand the TPE threshold and give first generation players higher TPE to start off with so they can keep up. Waiver players still sign the same way, as they are not peperty of a VHL team yet. Then you can get creative. You get drafted to your VHL team, you start off for their VHLM team. BUT you could even initiate a rule that allows the player to be traded to a different VHLM team after since this would hinder trading. For the record I know why this was abolished and why it probably wouldn’t work in today’s VHL but I always loved this about the earlier days of the league. 2. Ban Vasteras from the league for good: i honestly cannot believe the Vasteras Iron Eagles keep coming back. They were an original VHL team who came in because a member named Pensfan was obsessed with Vasteras. Once I removed them from the league they should have stayed gone. We must initiate an immediate relocation of Vasteras and set a permanent ban so the city may never return again like Palpatine did in The Rise of Skywalker. 3. Return the World Cup back to glory: If there is one thing that disappoints the hell out of me, it’s the current state of the World Cup. The World Cup used to be a HUGE deal, members looked forward to it every season. Now, no one even knows it’s going on. Something has to be done to return the World Cup hype back. I’ve heard too many times how no one cares and it’s a mockery. This is supposed to be our world stage event and we can’t generate hype for it. I am not sure exactly what I would do to help this at the moment, but I would make it a priority for myself, the other blues and the BOG to get this rolling. Maybe a possible TPE payout for medal winnings would help incentitize people and re-gain their interest. Making the games mean more, draws more interest.

  21. Nah keep @Fradin99’s ass out of here.
  22. The San Diego Marlins have been spoiled the past 2 seasons by having goaltender Olivier Gauthier between the pipes. Gauthier was no doubt the MVP of the team during that span. He posted 87 wins as the Marlins netminder while coming off a save percentage of .926% and GAA of 2.17 with 8 shutouts. Gauthier has since gone onto greener pastures as he was ready to move up to the VHLE, further progressing his journey to the VHL. This left the Marlins with the big question in the S89 offseason, who would replace Gauthier? The answer became Clark, drafted by the Marlins in round 3 of the S89 VHLM Draft. Many were shocked by this selection as Clark had been very much unknown to the league. But clearly the Marlins scouting saw something in him to fill in the void. So far Clark has delivered on the mark, as when San Diego has been outshot he has kept them in the game. All of San Diego's losses have come within a goal so far. Clark is rocking a .917 save percentage so far and a 2.47 GAA which is very solid. Clark is showing that he is the guy that the team can be built around, and we are very excited to see his progression over the course of the season.
