With the Hamilton Canucks winning the inaugural VHL game in Calgary against the Wranglers, we travel all the way to Europe to see the Amstel Tigers take on the Helsinki Frostbite in Helsinki. Here's a link to the last MS with HAM vs. CAL. http://vhlsim.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/4271-pre-season-maybe/ Game 2: Amstel Tigers vs. Helsinki Frostbite This game took place in Helsinki, Finland. 15,060 fans game out to watch the inaugural game in Europe take place. In the first period it was a very spirited affair with LeRoy Jenkins take a slashing minor to give Amstel its first PP. Nothing really came of that with goalie Sam Lafleur not facing a single shot. You would think this would fire up the home team with a big penalty kill right? Nope, about six minutes after the penalty, Anton Volchenkov scored with assists going to Andrei Nazarov and Andy Sutton. Three minutes after that the Tigers took a penalty with Chris Maher going off with a tripping minor. The penalty was later killed off and with all the momentum way, Franz Lindemann scored twenty seconds after Maher got out of the box. The goal was assisted by Michael Chabot. The Frostbite was clearly out played with the shots severely tilted in Amstel's direction ten to three. At the start of the second period the game has finally started to become more even with Helsinki showing some life. With some shots on goal and some hits, they almost fought their way back into this game. All this fight resulted in Oscar Keller scoring a goal at 16:06 of the second period. The goal was assisted by Boris Mironov and Blair Betts. The Helsinki Frostbite brought the crowd back into the game with this goal and outshot the opposition eight to four. The 3rd period was more grinding and hitting than finesse and shots. The final shot count of the third period was five to three Amstel. During the last minute of play however, is where Helsinki got these shots with Bill Mucklat getting two and Bill Lindsey providing the last hurrah with the goaltender pulled. The only thing of note that happened was Jeff Downey taking interference minor at 0:21 of the third period. The penalty kills were perfect with both going two for two and one for one with Helsinki killing of two powerplays. Robert Sharpe stood tall with thirteen saves on fourteen shots. Sam Lafleur did decent himself stopping seventeen of nineteen shots. The three stars went to Anton Volchenkov, Robert Sharpe and Franz Lindemann getting first, second and third respectively. This game pitted Stockholm travelling all the way to Toronto to face off against the Legion. Stockholm to Toronto is approximately 3,930 miles, so that is a long way and quite the time difference. There is a 6 hour difference between Stockholm and Toronto, so when it is 8 PM in Stockholm it is only 2 PM in Toronto. A crowd of 14,464 came to see this historical event. In the first period the Stockholm Thunder came out hitting everything in sight with them out hitting the legion six to one. Stockholm out shot Toronto in the first period seven to three, however, with them coming out gun blazing I think they became a little too aggressive with Toronto scoring the first goal. Vaclav Pletka scored with assists going to Trent Klatt and Vaclav Prospal. To with my statement of Stockholm being the aggressor they took two penalties. This penalties went to Chris Julien for hooking and Travis Green for high sticking. Stockholm successfully killed the penalties off. The second period started off with a bang as Marian Oshie took a penalty for boarding at 0:13. Stockholm's penalty killing was definitely on the ball as they killed off another penalty going three for three so far. This must have given them some much energy as Stockholm scored the next goal at 5:10. Guillaume Latendresse scored with assists going to Steve Kent and Travis Green. This tie game was short lived as three minutes later with Vaclav Prospal scoring. The assists went to Vincent Damphousse and Vaclav Pletka. Once again too, the Thunder out shot Toronto six to three as well as out hit them six to one. The third period was much different from the first two as Stockholm must have run out of gas. They were outshot eight to nothing. How can you not muster up a shot when you are down one goal? There really was no sense of urgency in this third period as they barely out hit the Legion, two to one. Toronto scored a goal at 1:29 of the third period. Aiden Alexander scored with assists going to Keyser Soze and Ryan Downey. I think this goal so early in the period may have just drained them from their energy. Maxim Desny won the game as he stopped twelve of the thirteen shots sent his way. Ookie Mexico wasn't as good as he only stopped eleven of fourteen. The Vaclavs picked up first and second star honours as Pletka and Prospal received first and second respectively. Third start went to Aiden Alexander. The approximate distance is around 4,672 miles give or take. The time difference is eight hours. That's a horrible time difference. That means when it is 8 AM in Seattle it is 5 PM in Vasteras. A crowd of 15,439 came to see this game, including some die hard Seattle fans. The first period was all Vasteras, all the time. Vasteras out shot Seattle seven to two as that time difference must really be playing a part in the beginning of this game. The first goal in Vasteras history belongs to Wayne Primeau with the only assist going to Vitali Yachmenev. Toby Petersen let out some steam by taking a bad penalty shortly after the goal as he went to the sin bin for two minutes after taking a roughing minor penalty. Seattle killed the penalty and was creating some steam but Yannick Tremblay seemingly crushed those comeback hopes with a late first period goal at 19:30 with assists went to Wes Walz and Wade Belak. The second period was definitely not like the first because on three total shots made it on goal. Vasteras had two while Seattle had one. Don't think that this period wasn't hard fought though as there was a lot of grinding and hitting in this period. At 1:49 Aaron Hill took a hooking minor, then Todd Rohloff took exception as didn't like being hooked as he took a roughing minor. The only shots of the period took place on this four on four. The third period started off with a bang as Jon Clarke took a high sticking minor penalty five seconds in. Seattle gained momentum from this PP as they didn't score directly from it but they scored one minute after the penalty expired. Christian Stolzschweiger scored at 3:50 of the third period with assists going to Joey Kendrick and Alex Watson. After all this has happened Stolzy killed all the moment after his goal by taking a hooking minor. The PK did its job and the game went on. With Seattle pushing hard to tie the game, an unlikely hero in the form of Todd Fedoruk tied the game with Waldo Cezar getting the only assist. Overtime solved nothing so the game went to a shootout. With Vasteras being the home team, Seattle got to shoot first. Alex Watson came streaking in but was stopped by Matthew Pogge. Scotty Campbell was up next for Vasteras and he was stone cold robbed by Tyler Vassell. That brought up Tyler Toews for Seattle and he gave a poor attempt on Pogge who easily stopped him. Jon McKelvie was up for the IK and he did not disappoint by making Vassell look foolish with a beautiful deke. This laid all the pressure on Stolzy and he came in and tried to go top shelf but missed the net by a mere few inches. First star went to Wayne Primeau , second star went to Yannick Tremblay and third went to Christian Stolzschweiger. Matthew Pogge picked up the win stopped eight out of ten shots plus two more in the shootout. Tyler Vassell sure kept his team in it stopping fifteen of seventeen plus one more in the shootout. Currently Centre Steven Stamkos has been shitting the bed recently in his teams games. He is averaging nearly 24 minutes a game yet is putting up way less than a PPG. He has 4 goals and 4 assists for 8 points in 21 games. TWENTY-ONE GAMES! His offence currently is not clicking and no one seems to know why. He also currently has 56 hits and is a +9. Something for some reason is not going for offence, Maybe he has just been having bad bounces because he is currently shooting at a 10% rate or one every 10 shots (currently has 39 shots). He currently has taken 56 faceoffs and has one 55% of them. What a weird season this is turning out to be for both the Bears and Stamkos. He currently has one year left on his contract, at the end of the season he will decide on whether he will stick it out for another year in the VHL or retire. He wants to win a VHL championship but also wants to perform to the best of his abilities.

Game 1: Hamilton Canucks VS Calgary Wranglers In the inaugural game of the Victory Hockey League pitted an all Canadian match up with Hamilton visiting Calgary. A total of 15,141 people came a showed up to support their home Wranglers. In the first period, Calgary came out flying hitting everything in sight. This however, was all for not as Alyn McCauley scored at 3:34 of the first period. This was assisted by Alexei Zhamnov and Alexander Mogliny. Other than the goal, a whole lot of hits and missed shots happened. During the second period the teams played more of a puck possession game as they both tried to cycle the puck with a lot of passing and not much shots. Near the end of the period the Hamilton Canucks scored again with David Night scoring assisted by Adrian McCreath. It was 2-0 by the end of the 2nd. Both teams barely had any shots with both having 13 apiece. By the start of the third period both teams were starting to shoot more. Calgary managed to cut the score in half with a goal by Ales Kotalik. Ales Hemsky and Jeremy Lamborghini registered the assists on the goal from Ales Kotalik. That goal was short lived as the Canucks answered right back 1 minute and 1 second later. Adrian McCreath scored a goal assisted by Jon Church and David Night, when all seemed lost and the home fans getting riled up, Reg Vaillancourt scored 1 minute and 20 seconds later with Cody Banks and Alex Henry getting the assists. With a tightly contested game being played it seemed like no one was going to budge. 7 minutes after Calgary made it one goal game again the Hamilton Canucks put this game away for good with Alyn McCauley scoring at 14:41 of the third period. Donald Bartch and Anders Eriksson got the assists on the goal from Alyn McCauley. The goalies for the most part played well but gave up a lot of rebounds. Drew Barclay in particular gave up more and it cost him the game. Jesus Christ stopped Calgary's third period push. He stopped 13 of 15 shots in the third alone making a total of 26 saves in the inaugural win of the VHL. He posted a 2.00 G.A.A and a 0.929 save percentage. Drew Barclay on the other hand stopped 22 of 26 for a G.A.A of 4.00 and a save percentage of 0.846. Special teams did not really play a role as Calgary had the only PP because Jon Church took a slashing penalty as 0:43 of the second period. Calgary did not score on the PP going 0-1 on the night. Hamilton's PK finished at 100%. Alyn McCauley received the 1st star honours, Adrian McCreath received the 2nd star honours and David Night received the 3rd star. well hey, shut up alfie. I thought after that mikek_02 changed his name to Mike because after im pretty sure Reynaud was Reynaud username so i thought that was his real name. -
crazier things have happened, i realize that he is not the player he used to be and/or is capable of. But from reading the posts prior to my trade suggestion is that the canucks need a shake up. how would acquiring a player of gaboriks name be. but yes i didn't exactly think it out with torts as coach i just went for the first player who plays RW and could be a good fit with the twins for offence.

Corrado wouldn't play Bieksa minutes per say, it'd help fill the void if everyone pitched in. Tanev could play bigger minutes i do believe and Columbus has a injury prone James Wisniewski, with Dalton Prout, maybe i havent watched much but isn't he a goon or atleast goonish. but yes upon further inspection, that defense is not as bad as i thought.

yes yes ok, my bad, forgot he was a lefty, hard to remember ever player and their hand they shoot with. and even if Torts is the coach, Im sure the sedins would elevate his play and its marian gaborik. Sure he's not what he used to be but is it not better than what we have? Jannick Hansen? Chris Higgins? Those guys are not top 6 forwards, sure they'll play well in that role for awhile but what happens when they dry up? Is this not why we want offence? Marian Gaborik has averaged 26.2 goals a year. Jannick Hansen has averaged 9.6. I love the guy, im a canucks fan but he is not top 6 material. 16.1 for Higgins. hes a boarder line 2nd liner. but than i guess you factor in defense Higgins could be a little better but we have a lot of defense. Gaborik also topped 40 goals 3 times and reaching 30 4 times. Higgins topped out at 27 and Hansen at 16.

i think full well frankie is good enough to come up and play more minutes, because you know they need defense so ok Bieska and a 1st for Marian Gaborik.
-
after realizing he can do amazing things with the sedins he'd want to stay. or never i guess he could get his stock up there, he is a right hand shot who could do wonders with the sedins. but then again he could pull an Anson Carter and bolt after and go back to being nothing

I'd want a cup more than money. wasnt Ehrhoff going to get the same deal as Bieksa? and if you want a top six forward why not trade Bieksa and a prospect and a 1st round pick for Marian Gaborik?
-
didn't he only sign a 40 million dollar contract? thats only a cap hit of 4 million no?
-
that may be, but maybe they're trying to be this team that tries to push people around because they know they don't have their number 1 goalie? They don't have that wall they could rely on when they aren't producing the goals. By the way Sandro who would you rather have Christian Ehrhoff or Jason Garrison?
