After a few members of the town had the idea to kill @Squidward yesterday, we find him dead today. He was attacked by a member of the MAFIA, and his house looks...well, very clean, one could say. The town is unable to gather his role or will. After attempting to come out as a TRACKER earlier on in this game, @NSG is proven right when the town finds an episode of Dora the Explorer playing on his phone...right next to his body. He was killed by a CRUSADER. Last will: And, finally, down goes @Berocka. Claiming not to be evil, the town finds... Day 5 begins, and should end on time. List of living players (10)

It's the end of Day 4, and the town's voting is moving along like our very own House Speaker drama. @Squidward says this isn't a normal game, and he's right--at times when teams are bigger, there's usually more consensus. It's the end of Day 3, and votes have piled up for @Adrest245. After three deaths on Night 1, and the loss of (probably) no roles that would have killed on Night 1 so far, the town wakes up expecting the worst (and glad to have woken up in the first place). It feels good to post that one again. The sun rises on Salem (and the local Wawa) for the second day, but the bus system doesn't seem to be up and running. A few people head on down to the local transit authority to see what's going on, where they find @jhatty8 victim to some MAFIA racketeering. He was a TRANSPORTER. Next up, being the law-enforcement-minded, upstanding individuals that they are, the fine citizens of Salem make their way to the local jail, just to make sure all is well and good. And finally, after that chunk of exciting news, it's noted that @N0HBDY is not part of the group, after some verbal confusion in which the town thinks people are yelling "we're missing nobody" and that that's a good thing. Upon reaching N0HBDY's house, we find... Before someone gets on my case about last wills--none were left. I should be around at day-closing time tonight. I'm going to make note of something here before it comes up as a question: the page for Rainbow Mode on the wiki is generally helpful, but uses the phrase "night immune" for Arsonists, Serial Killers, and the Godfather. This is potentially misleading, as "night immune" can be taken to mean "cannot die at night" (in the same way as the Pestilence). That isn't the case--it's just pointing out that these roles have basic defense. None of the roles themselves work differently than in any other mode.

I still love the "which of the following goalies is the leader in x stat" question that was clearly submitted years ago because they were the all-time leader as of something like S73 and no later. I've had explained to me like I'm stupid by multiple people that the question isn't incorrect because out of those choices, there's still a leader. Which I never even disputed, and I never said that the question isn't technically correct. I just don't like that we have questions in the pool that were irrelevant long before we ever even put trivia on the portal. I don't have an issue with most of the way trivia works, but there are examples like that. I also do agree with the idea that if a question is too complicated, a lot of people will just guess it. I'm conflicted as to whether or not that's an actual issue, because in that situation more work = more TPE, and I feel like that's a general idea you've been in favor of in the past (especially with your articles on donations and such). As long as the information is at least reasonably reachable, and someone might care about the answer, I'm cool with it.

Looks like I've paid attention to the lotto tournament about as much as I've played in it. I know I was initially against the lotto tournament when it was first announced, because I saw it as a thing that was going to keep the lower teams down (as finishing last would presumably make you less likely to win the tournament as well). I'm also pretty sure I was told that the base odds were adjusted to account for that. ...so, if you adjust things so the final odds are about the same, then what's the point of changing anything at all? The lotto itself is going to mess with the draft order a hell of a lot more than the tournament. If we got rid of the tournament I don't think anyone would miss it.

I agree that the things you mentioned were issues, but it was still a hell of a lot of fun to play. It's mostly a shame that moderating was so much work--if it weren't, it would have been so much easier to make the game happen for everyone (plus, if it really weren't, you could do things like hiding the actual battle mechanics from people and just making them guess what works in which ways while not needing half the list to player-mod). This was still the most fun independently-created forum game I've ever been a part of, and knowing that the time I spent helping was absolutely nothing next to what you put in to make it work makes me respect your work that much more--because even I was starting to burn myself out on it. Thanks for a really cool experience, even if it isn't one that we should keep doing. I'm so happy that me calling it the Board of Gustav actually caught on with someone (and that you think I'm high up enough here to assign myself my own role without getting yelled at). Too bad I've since moved on to somewhat shinier roles, but I'm still in the Board of Gustav and will continue to refer to it as such I won't lie, I wondered about this (especially after learning the first bit by just coming across your edits on Google Sheets). My educated guess was that you're one of those "I go by my middle name" people and you're officially Peter Tyrell or something. To make one very minor change, but to provide notice of it nonetheless... -Slight Medium nerf that actually complies with how things are supposed to work, per the official ruleset Rules have always said that a Medium may only talk at night, but forum games across multiple leagues have allowed the role to work differently, not bothering to cut off access to dead chat during the day. This has become a slight issue in recent games, with a Medium able to become confirmed virtually instantly during day phases and with lots of information going public one day earlier than it otherwise would have. So, for now, I'm going to start actually only allowing dead chat to be active during night phases, in accordance with official rules.

Good to know I can ban you now. I've always been curious, though never actually asked--what was different for you (if anything) in your second time around? Might be valuable info from a recruitment/VHLM standpoint. I also like that you're conscious of how your own life is changing and wondering where that's going to take your VHL career. I know you're a couple years or so younger than me, and if you do your share of digging through the forums you'll see a hell of a lot of overly sentimental posts from me over the past 1-2 years where I wondered the same stuff as college was wrapping up and I had a lot of big decisions to make about where to take my life next. While everyone's situation is different, and I haven't had some of the same experiences as many others here (kids, serious relationships, etc.), it takes surprisingly little time commitment to be pretty darn active once you take the pressure off of yourself to be super-ultra-next-level-active. So while I'd never tell you to consciously reduce your activity, just know that it's not as all-or-nothing as some might think.
